The 2016 Honda Civic has won the North American and Canadian Car of the Year awards and for good reason. This compact sedan has grown in size, it has a more powerful base engine and now can be ordered with a turbo. The Civic has seating for 5-passengers and is a comfortable car. Honda equips the car well including available advanced safety systems like Honda's Sensing system.
Competitors to the Honda Civic are the Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, Kia Soul, Nissan Versa, Chevy Sonic, Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio, Honda Fit, Honda HR-V, Toyota Yaris, Chevy Spark, Chevrolet Spark, Chevy Cruze, Chevrolet Cruze, Kia Forte, VW Jetta, VW Golf, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Golf, Dodge Dart, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Sentra, Fiat 500, Fiat 500X, Mazda3, Mazda2, Mazda6, Scion iM and Mitsubishi Lancer.

they don't put the lane watch on the left side because its counter intuitive to look the opposite direction when you just look to the left and the mirror is there already. At least that's what I think

The infotainment glitched twice during my drive from Vancouver to Portland and back, being unable to read my USB stick for music. Seat comfort could be better for long drives; it caused my left knee to hurt during the 7 hr. drive. (Seattle traffic along the I5 is getting worse these days). Also the a/c was not as cold as we would have wanted, but it may just have needed a recharge, or just don't run it in ECO mode. Otherwise, what Zack mentions is all true.. it does feel more upscale and it is everything you could ever want in a car :D. Surprisingly I didn't mind the CVT; power delivery was pretty smooth and torque adequate. Zack.. love your reviews, keep em comin! :)

Funny Zack you tube suggested this older video. Even more funny the next gen is about to come out. So 5 years later, let's see, no 4wheel drive, u got one, I got one, vol knob returned, still a big seller. This gen did well for Honda and us fellow Canadians.

Why they don't do lane watch on the left: you'll be looking to the left if you're turning left, the screen is on the right. It'll be distracting/counter intuitive. Please spread. Thanks.

I have the same EX with HS, and loving it even if I have to drive just 4 km during weekdays. Not at all disappointed with absence of volume knob as the steering wheel volume control has top and bottom push buttons to control that is perfect for me. Having Lane watch on Right can be a cognitive behavioral issue as the screen is on the left.

Honda Civic Ex Coupe with the 2.0L Manual has all the makings of a perfect daily driver. Fun to drive with the peppy vtec engine and manual transmission with great features and reliably just what a Honda is supposed to be! I'm really impressed with what Honda was able to do with the Civic i used to be scared because i thought they were losing their touch with the 2012 Civic. Alas I wish I could afford a new car this civic would definitely be it!

I'm looking to buy a 8th gen 2008-2010 civic or 10th gen Corolla. I'm mainly looking for fuel economy, a slightly more fun ride, tech, and reliability. Which way should I go? it's beginning to look like Honda reliability just isn't what I thought it was.
@peter300pete
@peter300pete 8 лет назад
here is the answer to your question that why Honda Lane Watch doesn't work for the left side: it's because when you are making a right turn, the Screen, the right mirror and your direction of turn are all on the same side (to the right), but when you are making a left turn, the screen will be on your right while you need to focus on the left and at times look in the mirror which is still on the left, so it gets distracting and confusing. it's for the ergonomics purposes. however, I have a 2014 Civic, which definitely is one of the worst cars on the planet with tons of problems that even Honda denies them not to fix them. I dont know about Vancouver but in Toronto Honda's service is absolutely the worst. I look forward to getting rid of it asap....thanks for your great reviews btw...

Hi Motormouth Canada. first of all I am huge fan. The way you deliver reviews is just class. I want to ask if I should go for 2016 CIVIC EX-T($25000) or Mazda6 GX($26500). Mazda is just class above and feature list is almost same excluding Honda Sensing which I don't want. Don't you think Mazda6 makes more sense as it is more premium?
@Motormouth...
@Motormouth... 8 лет назад
+Mithun Mehta You should do what I always suggest and drive them both and get an idea of which car you like better. On paper, the new turbo Civic will have much more content and is almost as big as the Mazda6. The one thing the Mazda has going for it is a conventional 6-speed automatic compared to the CVT in the Civic. The turbo engine in the Civic also feels a bit more responsive than the Mazda6. Try them out and see what you think?

Honda has reportedly issued a stop-sale order for 2016 Civics equipped with 2.0-liter engines. The company is preparing to recall the vehicles due to a potentially missing or improperly installed piston pin snap ring, which can lead to a stall condition or complete engine failure. "All affected units will require use of a borescope to inspect the four cylinders to confirm correct piston pin snap ring placement," the company wrote in a message to dealers, according to excerpts posted on CivicX forums. "Vehicles exhibiting any concerns with piston pin snap ring placement may require replacement of damaged pistons, piston pins or rings, or other related engine components." Sufficient quantities of replacement parts and inspection borescopes are currently unavailable. American Honda expects to launch its customer notification program by mid-March, sending letters to approximately 34,000 owners. The Japanese automaker has had a few engine problems in recent years. Certain Accord sedans and CR-V crossovers are prone to excessive oil consumption due to worn rings, while separate recalls have addressed engine failures in the Accord, CR-V, Pilot and Odyssey.

I never hear anyone talk about insurance costs with the Civic in Canada. When I went to buy my last car a few years ago I got some quotes on a Civic and it was $140 more a month than the Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla. Apparently it is the one of the most stolen, raced and modded cars and for those reasons the insurance is much higher. It always shocks me that it is the number one selling car when I could essentially jump up to the next tier/class of car with this 140$ a month savings by just not choosing the civic. Does anyone else have this same experience?

@jeffgendron1959
@jeffgendron1959 7 лет назад
But whats your quote for lets say an Elantra? My bet is its still cheaper. I've talked to more people recently and it is more to do with location it seems. I know someone that moved from Durham to Scarborough in a condo by the Town center and their car insurance jumped nearly $100 more a month. Some parts of Toronto will be worse than others. So maybe in you're area its not too bad.

The 2.0 port injected naturally aspirated motor will be far more reliable and last much longer than the 1.5 direct injected turbo motor. If you plan on keeping it many years definitely go for the 2.0. However, if you’re a racing/autocross enthusiast the 1.5 turbo motor has tremendous aftermarket support and is far more tunable and faster than the 2.0. Of course the Type R with the 2.0 turbo is the ultimate track toy. 2.0 = Bulletproof reliable 1.5T = Faster and better gas mileage

+game hopper It's pretty self-explanatory. First model year cars are completely new, so there's a chance that the car is going to have a few small issues due to design flaws. In fact, Honda has issued an official recall of all 2016 Civics with the 2.0L engine because of a faulty piston pin retaining ring. It can lead to fires, oil leaks, and engine block damage. Not soothing news for any owners out there. The best thing you can do is wait a few years and let the automaker iron out the small problems here and there.

The Touring model goes for $32689 !! Way over priced , you don't need a camera to tell you if a car is in your blind spot , a convex mirror works fine . Most of the tech is a waste of money , just pay attention to the road and save $10,000 !!
@DanielRichards644

WHERE, I just looked on Autotrader and the MOST EXPENSIVE Touring listed within a 100 miles of me was listed at $27,335 US, the Touring also has the FULL LED HEADLIGHTS and the 450 watt audio system with factory subwoofer and heated seats on the REAR seats (not just the front seats like the EX-T), I mean sure if you wanted to save 3-5k then go with the EX-T over the Touring but dropping to the base LX and losing practically everything just isn't worth it in the long run.

Mr. Worf OK, and yes i'm familiar with how crappy the Canadian dollar is doing right now, I watch several tech channels here on youtube and they are all Canadians.

+CNHabs The resale value of an Elantra drops like a rock. You lose a lot less money reselling your Civic which holds it's value better, usually offsets any initial price difference.

+toronto97 Honda has reportedly issued a stop-sale order for 2016 Civics equipped with 2.0-liter engines. - - - The Elantra is a more reliable and better overall buy in my opinion.

---you say why would you buy a base Accord when you can get a roomy Civic with all the extras? well you don't get the same level of protection in a crash, the Accord is safer!

It's funny that so many people support the removal of the volume button and push mute/on/off. To all those people - it's a step backwards in a layer of safety and simple functionality. Why are you justifying Honda's choice to remove the volume/on/off knob?

The base civic rims are awful! Same with the base and mid trim crv rims. Honda needs to step it up!
