My time in the FN2 shape Honda Civic Type R hatch was somewhat underwhelming for a car in such an iconic lineage, Mugen upgrades notwithstanding.
But this Civic Type R Sedan, known as the FN2, is a significantly more interesting car even on the surface. More space, more doors, better looks, rarer to see on UK roads and a distinctly more pure JDM vibe. Lets review the FD2 Honda Civic Type R Sedan!

The FD2 Civic Type-R is a great JDM performance car with that fabulous sound of the VTEC engine linked to a close ratio 6-speed manual gearbox, in the end though I liked it very much since playing it in Time Trials on Gran Turismo 5 & 6.

Malaysia did have the FD2 sold officially in Honda showrooms back in 2007-2010.

Also in Thailand, it is where I first saw the FD2 and fell in love. Still trying to convince the other half to allow me to buy one.

Good shoutout with the Integra DC2. There's just something really magnetic about that car, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.

I’ve never had a chance to own a Type R, but for the Honda’s that I do/have owned I tend to change my oil ever 3-4 months or 3500 miles (living in the US with a ton of driving so it may be different in other countries), but Honda blocks are maintained best with the simplest routine maintenance. Most of the work on them. Speaking of Honda, have you seen the news of the Integra? Also, I’ve created a challenge regarding the NSX. Awesome coverage on the Civic Type R!

In Canada we only got the base version and the Type S version of this chassis and it was sold as the Acura CSX. It was 50kg heavier, didn't handle as well and the K20Z3 was down 30hp from the K20A that the JDM car had. Another case of the North American market getting screwed. The Civic Si and CSX Type S sold like hotcakes so the Type R would have too.

After a lifetime of muscle cars and sports cars I'm a latecomer to hot hatches and their sedan siblings and now can't get enough of them but have never been drawn to the Civic. On paper I should love it and being a Honda it will be a good car but there's just something odd about them that I can't quite put my finger on.

This is wayyy better than a fn2, doesn't even compare really? The FD2 has clutch type LSD and suspension designed and geometry done by the legendary spoon. This car was mainly built to be a track monster but aswell fun on the road. Fn2 is horrible 🤦‍♂️ it was made in the UK, Japan hated it and they didn't import any to their country 😂

The FD2 has exactly the same Torsen LSD as the FN2 has in 2009-2011 models, not a clutch-type. Indeed, the entire gearbox, clutch, flywheel and shifter are exactly the same (they both got the updated stuff, where the US-market Civic Si had the older gear ratios and heavier flywheel, the same as the DC5 Type R). 🙂 As for Spoon? Ichishima-san from Spoon even insisted the Spoon FN2 be raced against a stock FD2 Type R on Best Motoring, that's how much of a big fan of the FN2 (and Jazz) he was: 😉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KuRwpyWQ-fM.html He was a big fan of the rigid dual-layer floorpan found on the FN2 and Jazz.
