I wanted to thank you mightily for this tank tutorial. I'm a published author working on a book for customizing of the VLX. Your video is the ONLY one that I've seen that covers this. I will be including full credit for you and your channel in the book as well as to pandemonium as well. Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU!!!!

Nice, by the way what your calling a dowel is in fact, threaded stock. The reason it bends so easy and contours to the tank is because it is soft. Not a good thing. In time it will loosen as the threads slowly creep and lose their form. What you need to do is use 1"-1.5" diameter round stock and contour the top to the matting surface of the tank. Drill and tap it to the largest diameter that fits the hole in the tank. you. Drill completely through it so you don't break the tap in a blind hole. Make it the length that lifts the tank to whatever height you need. Place the tank where you want it and spot weld. Check for alignment, remove tank and weld all around. When you reinstall the tank, place a neoprene washer between the tank and your new support. Place another on top. Then shape a stainless steel washer with a tight fitting hole on top and secure with a stainless screw.

hopefully! hey man, quick question, a i went along with my build today, i started the whole mess of wiring reconfiguration under the seat area....im going to be looking around for a can of some sort, that u have on your bikes...my questions are, how did you do the battery relocation, and did you have any issues fitting all those wires in one canister? or did you use a aftermarket/modified wiring harness?
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 7 лет назад
CJ Mayo - awesome question, the canister thing is just us out hunting antique shops and finding something that will work, word to the wise though, if you do find a canister of sorts, keep your fuses out so you can get to them easier, and make sure to keep your rectifier out of there (can) id relocate it away from the engine for sure all that heat won't help it with longevity. I made the mistake a long time ago putting it in there, and it fried one (it gets hot anyway) soooo.... Battery placement; once you get rid of all that fun plastic in the stomach of the bike, there's a few routes that you can go, you can get a micro battery which are really good in the way they eliminate a lot of space, the downside is they are really expensive battery with charger plan on paying around $250. We just use the regular battery on that bike and just welded on a bracket to hold it, make sure you have some kind of foam or some kind of impact resistant material a lot of newer batteries these days are sealed which is good, but the last thing you want is a lot of vibration tearing your battery apart that's why they suspend a lot of those batteries in the plastic housings. As far as wiring goes, I would try to get "same direction wires" to work with each other and if you can route them all into one direction and do a canister that's the best route to go. You won't be able to get all of them like that the ones that you can't you can just sort of tuck them out of the way to get a cleaner look, if you need more help you can reach me at dudewhatthesmackisthat82@gmail.com Thanks;)

Where your fuel petcock comes out what is immediately attached to it. Is that a fuel filter or a fuel pump? Also is that connected to the auto fuel petcock.
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 5 лет назад
Hey sorry for the late reply (been out of the country), yeah its a fuel filter. We had it connected for a little while on that bike if I remember to the AFP, but we decided to run it straight instead, those diaphragms are kind of a joke, just make sure you plug up your port to your rear head if you ditch it (AFP), vacuum leaks are no beuno on anything. hope this helps some:)

@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 7 лет назад
Gregorio Barrera - hey, thanks for the comment first off, kind of a golden rule always from fit and install, then disassemble and then you can paint it, this way if you had to make changes you don't risk damaging the paint job. There's always a little more tweeking this way and that you have to do to get it to fit right. You'll be glad you got it solid without all the worry of scratching and what. Hope this helps, have a good Weekend;)

Could you talk about how you did the seat on this bike either via comment or another video? It seems like a lot of guys make the bike a hard tail or saw off the extra metal behind the seat to facilitate a kit for a solo seat. It looks like you achieve a clean look leaving it in place. The same went for the guitar bike you did. How did go about rigging the seat up? Great videos by the way. I appreciate you sharing!
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 7 лет назад
Thomas Cecil - I'm assuming you ride a 600?? The way that I do 600's vs 750's is different for sure. The 750's don't have the mono shock that the 600's do so tack welding on spring posts is a lot easier. The 600's are a bit trickier. First of all there are those big rooster tails (that's what I call them) that float out behind the bike that hold your rear fender and all that fun stuff, cutting those off is a decision you'll have to make. Once you cut it off there's not much to go back to, your riding solo from here on out. He biggest part of the fabrication of the bracket that holds the seat. The best thing I would suggest to you is to pause the video in a few spots to see the bracket that holds the springs. You'll have to grind down some flat spots on the frame to sit the bracket down. And then choose a gauge of steel that's thick enough not to bend under the weight of a rider. Once you have the bracket to shape, tack weld on both sides then your ready to drill holes for your springs. The rest is just from fitting. Making the pan and leather work is a totally different story though. I hope his helps in some way. If you want you can reach me at dudewhatthesmackisthat82@gmail.com might be able to help you more.

;IVE GOT THE O7 SHADOW AERO, the frame angle for the tank is straight just like this bike, but it doesn't have any pre drilled holes :(. i bought some long set screw, do you think that will work well, or should i use a fully threaded hex?
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 4 года назад
Sorry for the late reply, I would try and use thread stock (gives you more options to put screws for tie downs) a threaded hex would be fine if you got the room...you might wanna consider using a combination of ideas from this one and the 750 build on this same channel, see what compares and what doesn't like you've done with this video, the Aero's frame is going to be a combination of both bikes it looks like. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Hey Bro, I found one of the ice cream canisters from White Mountain products, 6 QTS w/lid. What I'm wondering is, did you slot the canister or put a small hinge plate? I like your ideas and wish I could ride with you but I'm out on the west coast.🙅😎
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 8 лет назад
Rocky Higgins- hey man, I know that these canisters will work for a 750 spirit, 600's? Probably not cause of the mono shock, but, I slotted the can yes, then drilled in 2, 3 1/2 inch holes, one towards the top of the canister for the harness that runs from the top right side down the frame and one hole at the bottom of the canister (both holes angled towards the front of the bike and not directly on top or bottom, but more of a sidewards "V" if that makes sense)for the wires that tend to run from the bottom of the bike towards the top, like the engine ground and what have you down there. There are two rectangular rings tack welded onto the top tubes where the seat tends to sit (there located underneath the two split tubes that hold the seat, you can use those rings to use a strap to hold the canister, I used an old rifle sling, my friend used a piece of rubber backing and a old motorcycle chain to hold it up (that was a pain). I'm not going to lie, if you do this, it will be a bit of a chore (your first time) and you'll need to make sure it super snug as high and away from the chain as possible, I let my chain get lose, and it started to eat through the canister, but then again I had my canister hanging somewhat lose.. Yeah! We live in northern Utah, if you ever come through let us know will run some asphalt man, always down for a cruise! Hope this helps, your the first one to ask about that, if you run into to many problems make a list of what's wrong and I'll make a video about it, might be easier, Take care brother, and keep em rubber side down! Take care
@rockyhiggins3761
@rockyhiggins3761 8 лет назад
Thanks big B, for getting back with me so quickly. Like you said in one of your videos, I think it was the coffee can, 'that we can make any thing work with these bikes'. I'm going to replace the mono shock with a strut I'll make. Maybe with a radius of the canister. I'll keep you posted, thank you bro.

All of it has a price ones cheaper than the other... if you do it yourself it will definitely be cheaper, I can put these together (some of them) for around 600-1000$ just depends on what’s on your mind(parts paint and mechanics involved) they definitely take time and patience, none of them are the same or go together the same way.. hope this helps some
