I've had my MX808 for a couple years and have run across very little it will not do. Programmed many different model keys, many TPMS, bled many brakes. I have a Snap On scanner I bought for 2400.00 and I seldom use it. Now in fairness this video is from 2019 and they have added a lot of software. Highly recommended this scanner.
Question so I bought my first scan tool well two got a autel mx808 and autel 906ts would I be able to program a 2013 Dodge Charger key fob I was also told by a friend that always works on my cars to get an autel scanner so I bought two the mx808 will always be in my car and the 906ts at home only reason I bought it is because of tpms when I check and asked on a few reviews about it on RU-vid they said it doesn’t so I mite return it the mx808 does tpms mine isn’t BT it’s the wired version
I'm considering this for multiple vehicles in my garage, but mainly Porsches. The coding features are key for me. Can someone confirm if the new updates allow it to talk to Porsches easier?
I was looking at this unit for personal use but decided on the MaxiDAS DS808K. Haven’t used it yet, hopefully it does what this one doesn’t. I’ll be using it this weekend
Although the key programming is iffy, this tool has gotten much better with updates... It can scan all systems unlike most cheaper scanners, and has very detailed live data streams. I too have a sub 100 dollar scanner but it never gets used.
I've got 15+ years experience myself friend. I bought this tool at launch and it was not good. At all. Many many updates later and today it is a much better scanner I agree, I do like it but it still falls short of claims. That being said depending on your needs there are other scanners out there to at least consider.
Welcome! Ive had it over a year now and it has gotten much better with updates most things are working. It's still pretty lousy for key programming though
Yes I found out the hard way that you have to charge the battery to make it work. I had it in my truck for about 6 months and forgot that I had to put it on a charger. 126 miles from home my truck's engine stopped running on the interstate. Crank no start hooked up the MX808 and nothing. So I had it towed 126 miles to a known diesel shop back home and within 3 hours they had the fuel control module changed out. Maybe I missed that info when I read the quick start manual that came with it new.
I know this is a strange question. But I was wondering if the bi-directional controls would allow you to activate a purge solenoid during evap test. Every GM ever haha. Thanks for the video, big help 👍
I have the mx808 and with the update from about a year ago it now does have some bidirectional abilities. I was able to diagnose a bad connector on a 2011 malibu purge solenoid with this tool since that update
Hi there, i am all the way from Recife in Brazil South America, and I really liked your video, very informative and all, thank you for sharing it with us, you are in America you should have gotten the MS909 it’s not all that expensive…
Glad I found your video and glad you saved me 400 dollars thanks again I will pass on this scan tool and go with something different. Thankful for people like you who give honest reviews. Most RU-vid people lie and say it's amazing because they are paid to sad world we live in honestly.
He didn’t save you $400 to be completely honest look at other video’s on this mx808 it’s amazing for the price and does all that’s on it there’s a reason it’s there if it couldn’t then it wouldn’t be an option just think about it look up videos on people using it to program keys with it and break bleed
@@alivapereviews8057 so does the SAS function work on the mx808 it offers the function but didn’t work when I tried to recalibrate my steering angle sensor all of my updates are up to date has current subscription but can’t figure out why the function doesn’t work
@@caseyhouse7162 yeah sadly I won’t recalibrate the steering angle sensor but now with a new update it’s a bifunctional scanner like the ms906ts but haven’t tired it my problem was because my steering wheel wasn’t straight so took it to alignment and code was still there I just cleared it after and went away it was a abs light
Yessir, since I made this video the tool has gotten much better with updates. But still a lot of let downs. I think it's time to make a current review.
Asked on your review....what really can it do besides reading codes and erasing them? I am looking for one that actually can diagnose things. What do you recommend for that?
This is a GREAT scan tool for $375..... you will not find one like this that can do what this can. Iv owned the 808 for a few years you can do everything it has on there it just hast to be the right application!! I have diagnosed many vehicles with this scan tool. You will NOT find a better tool for the money. You can also look into the 906bt thats a fantastic tool and does quite a bit more such as active tests and special functions. All this 808 is is a high end code reader that reads ALL modules and live data with the extra helpful functions
I bought this scan tool and have not been disappointed with it. It has successfully read every vehicle I've hooked up to. I can record live data, extract freeze frames, etc. If you are looking for a tool that you hook up and it says "change this" - that's not what these tools are designed for. You have to have automotive knowledge and experience which you apply to the information that the scanner provides you with. I paid 400 bucks for this and it was worth it. If you are looking for something that is bi-directional and allows you to check all functions on a vehicle you need to step up to a different league. This does a few tests but it's a pretty basic unit. But again - you won't get anything else anywhere near as good for the money.
drew forthefew no not srs...... sws.. to calibrate the seat.. I use a maxisys 906 at work and it can calibrate seats. The MX808 shows the feature but when I Click on the button the next page is just blank . Was wondering if it needed to be updated or it doesn’t do it .
Oh i gotcha. My mistake. I hadnt messed with that yet, mine seems to be working. But if you notice, go and click into the seat menu before you hook it to a car and you can see the vehicles the feature available for. Maybe it just isnt available for the car you tried on. I notice a new system update launched yesterday, maybe that update will help you out?
I have a question Drew Forthefew: the mx808 has a obd2 connection. But you can also buy cables on amazone/aliexpress for older cars (38 pins mercedes, 20 pins bmw, toyota 17 pins and so on). Does the mx808 also works by older cars with these connections? For example: a mercedes of year 2001 diesel E320 with VIN number WDB2100261B285863. Is it possible to diagnose that car with this system? I like your video anyway, good information for other buyers! Greetz from Holland!
you know why the obd port doesn't charge it. because when your doing programming you have to shut the key in the car on and off. if your programming a key and you shut off the ignition switch. you programming is going to be shut off when the key is cycled off. hence you need a battery is the scan tool for it to operate
Correct, it makes total sense to have battery power in that instance. but youre not always programming and its very inconvienient if you just need to grab it and make a quick scan or ect. Any other scanner ive owned will run obd power but would use a simple "battery must be above xx% to use this action" message if doing something critical. A simple update could change it and make the tool safe for programming and convenient at the same time.
Im sure it can program keys on SOME cars. As i touched on in the video, its list of cars it can do is very limited and a lot of the ones its supposed to do, it simply cannot.
hey i came across this vidio and thought of you the info i want you to listen too is near the end cheers ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1gWd3kf-i4k.html 12.19 sec
@@mechanicandskills7215 that video is a good recommend. Question #10 to be exact. I will stay away from the MK because its regarded as a stage 1 tool. Only doing basic read/write functions
Thanks for the review, I was going to purchase the unit for it's immobilizer function and you saved me the time of finding out it doesn't work. Think I'll go with x431 unit instead.. Have you ever try contacting Autel ?
Youre welcome! Yes i have actually contacted autel (which is not easy) they basicly just said it wasnt intended to be used for its immobilizer function, and if you want it to work then buy one of their higher end tools.. Then why have the function?!?! Yeahhh...
I think a lot of your problems would have been solved by reading the instructions. You should exit diagnostics completely before doing anything else. The amount of features is dependent on the vehicle not the scan tool. Some cars allow more in depth diagnosis than others?
Toby the Glen I completely and fully understand the correct way to use this tool. 15+ years experience. Over the last year it has improved with updates however still does not deliver the manufactures promises. Different features for different cars yes.. but those features SHOULD be with many many more cars, yet are not. This is a problem with the tool and nothing else
I'm a year late on this post but yes mine has programmed many keys and fobs. Only on Chrysler vehicles you will have to go the dealer and get a code to program new keys. I've had my MK808 for nearly 3 years and still use it on my mobile service calls.
@@TheKustom59 yeah I think the problem might be that it does do it on cars that dont have chips in the keys . Like the one hes doing in the video . 2003 Chevy Silverado dont have chipped keys either
Not every car has a chip in the key to need to be programmed in the first place it's not working more than likely the vehicle does not have a chip in the key and another thing is you need a new key that has not been programmed to be able to program it I think this is a user error not a false problem with the scanner I have seen a lot of videos of people using the 808 to do keys I personally cannot stay I just recently got one has not had a chance to use it on keys
That's a fairly silly comment. I'm fully aware that not all keys are programmable. User error??? I've been doing this for 17 years friend. I also didn't say it can't program keys, it can, just not all the ones it should be able to, it fails too often. Don't really appreciate the direct personal jabs on my channel. Just here to give people genuinely unbiased information. The only false information is being portrayed by you. The irony.
You literally started the video off lying it's specifically says straight in the book on page 5 power sources are internal battery pack, vehicle power, and external power supply
This video was made when it was first released. The device did not work as intended proir to many many many updates. Thats not lying. Thats an accurate assessment . Thanks for watching.
Maybe you should understand as a tech that you can’t and shouldn’t unplug a car when your in test mode. It can damage the computer. You should also learn how to use software before making yourself look like an idiot. Thankfully your not a mechanic anywhere near we’re I’m from. Good luck lol.
When did i unplug it exactly?? 17+ years as a tech. I know how software works, i like to make my videos understandable to everyone, not just mechanics. Dont mistake my light heartedness as a lack of knowledge.
