Adiga Armory what ammo were you using for this video?
@adigaarmory
@adigaarmory 4 года назад
@Flatbill's Adventures we shot a bunch of stuff in testing it, but for this vid, it is mostly CCI 40g Standard Velocity and/or Minimags. It shot very well with both but did best with the CCI 40g Standard Velocity.

Adiga Armory I have a brand new RPRR (2020?) and have put about 750 rounds through it. Fit and finish are way better than I’ve gathered others have bought. I thoroughly cleaned the bore out of the box; it was filthy with green preservative. I re-torqued everything to specs and it still shoots 8” groups at 100 yds. Various name brands of ammo. New Vortex 6-18 50mm glass. I’m open to suggestions for my next tweak.
@adigaarmory

Thinking maybe try another scope if you have a spare, and check the scope base/rings torque just to eliminate that as a possible issue. Also, take a look at the barrel crown to see if there is any damage, and see if the barrel nut may have wandered loose. If its not the scope, the barrel, and not the ammo, I'd call Ruger and send it in for warranty service, as you might have an out of spec bore or something else you can't fix yourself. Please let us know if you have any luck!

I picked one up a week ago. I don't know that I have ever had a gun that made me smile this much. So much fun to shoot. I was ringing steel consistently at 200 yards. Part of the reason I bought it, was to be able to practice more and get more consistent. This gun made me realize I'm a better shot than I thought.

People spending well over 1k on certain production .22s and custom .22s are toting the same results I get with my Ruger. If I feed it the right ammo, mine will put each round through the same hole at 50 yards.

Mine loves CCI standard velocity and shoots just over . 5" at 100 yards. I still can't believe how cheap it was for how accurate and precise this platform is. Cheap 10/22 mags are a great feature as well.

I own one, thank you for solving a few questions I have, plus other people at the range were so skeptical about the 200yrs shots with this rifle, and I prove them wrong like you, ur video is a validation. my observation, temp on the barrel you are right on, I say also the choice of ammo matters barrel is choosey with ammo, bolt you are right on too, and feed can be improved.

I know this is 3 years after this video was made, but I just bought a rpr 22LR and took it to the range. This morning was cold for florida, talking about 56 °and a little windy and rainy. I experienced the same behavior between cold barrel and warm barrel. Once it was warm it would stack the holes. I really like the Ruger precision rimfire 22LR. I also have the 17 HMR.

I love this thing. Semi-auto 22s my friends have malfunction/jam so often I wanted a bolt-action and I stumbled across this one. Immediately enjoyed it! This is the rifle I can sit out all day with or go to a range for a couple hours and just shoot away with no issues. It's cheap, enjoyable, and fun. The complaint I have with it (like this video mentions) is that the bolt seemed kind of rough to move. Good idea on sanding it down to make it glide better.

Had mine for a couple of weeks now, and it is fast becoming one of my favorites. Tomorrow I'm going to do a little side by side comparison between this rifle and one of my other favorites, my Savage MKII FV SR that I put a Boyds Tacticool stock on. Love that gun as well, and it is the one I shoot my 25 and 100 yard KYL targets with. Should be interesting, and a lot of fun. Gonna try to shoot a vid while I'm at it. Thanks for the great video.

Thumbs up on your vid. Mine started out like a junker. Bad bad groups. Took 300 rounds to smooth out. I do have the cold barrel off shots. Bout 5 or 6 out the end & I'm on POI. I'm like you guys, more likes than dislikes. A bit heavey for field carry but I usually get into a "sit & wait" spot. No prob. Athlon Talos 6x24x50 tops mine off. Yes on the accuracy of CCI subs. Can do half inchers at 50. Higher speeds usually go a bit larger but hit the game I'm lookin at. Hope yours is a keeper. Mine is......😁

Great video and comments on this rifle. I bought mine a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoy shooting it. You mentioned the weight and I totally agree with you; for a 22 it's pretty husky if you are going to be carrying it on the field. This rifle I use solely at the range so the weight does not bother me. Your suggestion to cut down on weight by cutting the barrel perhaps a couple of inches as well as the rail is a nice suggestion but it would take away some accuracy beyond 100+ yards. You also mentioned the roughness of the bolt and that's one thing I never looked. Now I'm really curious and most likely I'll do a little sanding and polishing to maximize smoothness. Once again, I thank you very much for all your valid comments. That was some nice shooting. By the way, mine seems to show preference for the CCI standard velocity. Best regards.
@adigaarmory
@adigaarmory 4 года назад
Thanks Sir!... and yes indeed, Ruger designed this as a bench rest rifle, not so much for field use. And for that purpose, the weight is not a big deal. Glad you are enjoying your RPR!
@knokname6466
@knokname6466 4 года назад
Really? Someone suggested cutting down the barrel to reduce weight-- about two ounces in two inches? Some people's children... why not just get some exercise and carry the rifle hunting as it is? The bolt is rough, for sure-- until you get a couple thousand rounds down range, then it smooths right up. Or you can hold the rifle on your lap while watching a movie and spend that time doing something useful, such as work the bolt a couple hours. Doing so will smooth the action plus teach your muscles how the bolt works and feels-- an important asset for the speed rounds.

for a newer view on things ive have one for 2 years now and had the same results. But im using a cheap scope , the cv life 6x24x50 cost $45 . So to improve on it i put a harrell barrel tuner on it and dialed it down to half the group size. i plan to take mine out to 500 yd then to 1,000yd wish me luck!

Good luck going out that far with that scope. I had one on my Savage MK2 and it is fine for shooting to maybe 100 yrds or so, but going out to the ranges your talking about you will be needing to use holdovers and that optic isnt up to the task. I mean I guess you could read your impacts if you can see them, but the reticle subtensions are pretty useless on that scope. Its not bad for close range plinking, just not the ranges your wanting to shoot.

Very nice video. I plan to purchase this rifle asap. Have you tried any of the premium match ammo ,( Elley , Lapua) if so were the groups better, worth the expense and trouble of finding any in stock. I bought a RPR in 6.5 CM a few years ago. Ive lately started buying and using mostly 22lr because of expense, availability of ammo and I'm limited to 200 yds here at my home. I just got the SR 22 pistol and it seems to be all the reviews said. The only problem I've experienced is the shooter. Like Quigley I'm not a pistol guy but getting there. Ruger IMO makes top of the line firearms that for what you get are very affordable. I bought a fully custom rifle also 6.5 CM that was 4 times the total cost of my RPR. I'm sure and certainly hope there are shooters that can with my custom build shoot circles around my factory RPR but admittedly I get equal accuracy and precision from both. Thanks for sharing your experience. Thought of a question. Can you or anyone recommend a good and affordable scope to put on this rifle. I can wait and save to put what will enhance shootabilty but realize also theres a point that beyond is just spending $ unnecessarily. Any advice would be appreciated.
@adigaarmory
@adigaarmory 14 дней назад
Have not tried those premium .22 brands as of yet. Not sure if it will help, but I suppose it doesn't hurt. The CCI Standard Vel stuff works well enough... just have to fire a couple of "warm up" shots. For the scope, this unit is topped off with a nice affordable Vortex. Just depends on what is in your budget.

On year three and returned to Ruger twice so far. When I first bought the rifle, using 10 or 11 different loads, my best group (3 rnds) was 18" @ 50 yards. That is 36 MOA. My Tac-Sol barreled 10/22 was shooting about .5" to .75" with the same ammo on the same day. Over the next several days, tried several different scope/mount combo's. Finally sent it back. Ruger said it had a bad barrel and rebarreled it for me. When I got it back, I tried the same loads as before and it shot twice as good as before. Twice as good for a 36 MOA rifle is 18 MOA. That is 9" at 50 yrds. They had me send it back again and they recrowned the barrel and sent it back to me. It is now a 10 MOA rifle shooting consistent 5" groups at 50 yards. I am not a Ruger basher and have several Ruger fire arms but this has been the most disappointing rifle I have ever own in my 50+ years of shooting.

Further update on mine. In short, because the dealer I went through was a complete crapartist (an incredible liar throughout this saga), I contacted the distributors in Australia where the rifle was sent after he told me the rifle was found to be in spec. What a load of crap.The distributor's gunsmith who inspected it contacted Ruger in the US to inform them of the faults and was directed by Ruger to "destroy the gun" and replace it with a new one. So I agree with your customer service statement about Ruger. But... this particular rifle should never have left the factory. It obviously never underwent proper QC and had never had the bolt inserted to check function or it would have been immediately obvious it was was non fitting and non functioning. Obviously then, headspace was never checked nor either trigger or safety function or overall firearm safety. No serial number could be found anywhere on the bolt either to cross check if it had the right bolt in the box originally. No number on it also confirms it was never checked or hand finished to fit or be matched to that rifle. I had a local gun dealer check it and he had the same conclusion that it should never have left the factory. Moral of story - buy local and assemble the firearm in the shop - with any gun!
@josephscarborough23

So a quick trip to the gunsmith would have fixed that and lap the receiver bam good as a custom gun then
@noel270w8
@noel270w8 4 года назад
@@josephscarborough23 Hi Joe, it was a lot worse than that. The distributor has their own gunsmiths and were it repairable they would have done it. 3 main points that point to serious flaws in my particular rifle. 1. Gunsmith could not repair it easily. 2. Distributor's gunsmith had to contact Ruger in US for directions on how to proceed. If it was straight forward they would have repaired it. 3. Ruger directed the rifle to be destroyed based on the gunsmith's assesment. Ruger would not normally absorb the cost of destroying repairable firearms. Having actually owned and operated this particular rifle, it was an example of extremely poor workmanship and quality control regardless of its pricing. Ruger did the right thing and had it destroyed. I never even fired it coz it was a piece of junk that should not have left the factory. It's real issue related to very poor machining that led to dimensions out of spec. It was not a simple fix.

@@noel270w8 The rifle was destroyed because it would have costed more money than the cost of the rifle and taken 6-8 months minimum just to get state department license approval to import the firearm back into the U.S., only to turn around and ship another one out to you. State department licencing is $400.00 per license, one time use. Not worth it to bring in one rifle for repair. If the rifle in question is destroyed, another replacement rifle can be shipped under the same export license that was previously procured. Government bureaucracy was the reason your rifle was destroyed, not because it had a flaw. Had you been in the states, your rifle would most likely been repaired and returned.

Such a great demo! Ruger should pay ya for what you've done! My drink was in the kitchen with ice and I couldn't peel myself away from the vid, not even with pause, lol. But HELLP!! Anyone know how to get the not so perfect bolt BACK INTO THE RIFLE?!! I too did a little sanding and topped it off with a little Birchwood Casey lead removing rags that double for me as a nice smoothing agent using a dremel at low speeds then adding my favorite oil or CLP. So you can imagine after doing all that and then struggling and failing to get the thing back in? What am I missing. Please advise......Anyone?

@adigaarmory 3 года назад
Thank you!... did you try finessing it in there? Its a bit like an old lock that needs a gentile jiggle. Depressing the bolt takedown/release is not required to reinsert, but it can help a little.

Adiga Armory I did finally get it back in, thank you. A the bolt arm and bottom piece that holds the firing pin move slightly independent of each other. Or rather I twisted the top and bottom of the assembly opposite directions of each other and it moved or rotated must have been its original position in the gun housing. I was going crazy lol. I then inserted it and it slid in with no effort. Yeah I wasn’t to excited about the finish on the bolt, especially the bottom side as mine actually has a hole almost like when something is being molded like metal at extreme temperatures and something foreign gets in the mix it pops and makes a hole sometimes. That’s what I have on the bottom besides the entire thing being a little sub par for how they’ve been marketing this gun. I wonder if the center fire models are of that quality of metal? I sanded as you did, carefully but used a dremel and then smoothed it out some literally by using Birchwood Casey lead and copper remover (polishing cloths) with a dremel and a felt wheel them hand polished it with a terry cloth towel and it literally smoothed out the surface like a sort of meld. It works much better now but I may inquire with Ruger about the bolt quality as I live about an hour from the Ruger plant in Prescott AZ. I’ll keep ya posted if/when I talk with the save CS guy I’ve sorta befriended over the years. Thanks again! Mike

I was worried about the 30 MOA thing (I got the .17 HMR so keep the velocity in mind) and read a bunch of people saying they had to contact Ruger to get a 0 MOA plate and crap. Well, I installed my Nikon P-Tactical scope on there and was 2" off after bolting it on at 100yds, and 1/2 MOA at 140yds now (as far as I've gone with it). The thing is just an insane tack driver, for the money it's practically a give-away. Anyways if the 30 MOA plate was perfect for my 17 HMR, you better believe the LR and WMR will need it at longer ranges! Unless you're shooting things at 25-50 yards, the mount is perfect. There's obviously a reason Ruger decided to install it on these things from the factory. Anyways all-in-all an amazing gun, and even though I got it as kinda a plinking toy, I feel more confident taking this thing out of the case than any other rifle I own (of any caliber). This truly is the "gateway drug" and I think it's why Ruger did such an amazing job on these things, it REALLY makes me want a big daddy Ruger Precision Rifle now.. probably PRC or Lapua.

Yes, you have to apply plenty of drop compensation for the 22lr trajectory at 200yds. I believe this scope/rifle/ammo/zeroing setup required about 7.5 to 8 MIL vertical for CCI standard velocity at that range.

Most often, KYL is 25, 40, or 50 yards, or out to 75 or 100, the target size will also grow. Sometimes. After all, KYL is a test of your shooting ability as well as the rifle's accuracy. For giggles, my club has decided to begin all our matches on the 300 yard line because all the targets were too easy for the younger shooters with good eyes. So, we'll most likely have a KYL at 300... I just hope the targets are HEYOOOOGE!

I bought a RPR .22 but ended up getting a refund on it. Bolt would not enter or fit in receiver without excessive force and a scrub out with brake clean and re-lube to try and improve. Then it was still minutes spent jiggling the bolt to even get it in and still the bolt and receiver were severely binding all the way. Not good at all. Never even loaded or fired a round it was that bad. Bolt would not close down or lift up either without excessive force. I own numerous Sakos', Anschutz' and CZs' and I have never before owned a rifle with an action that was like that. The rifle I got should never have left the factory or the gun dealer. I am only referring to the rifle I received and not at all inferring that all RPR's are the same. Can't comment accuracy wise coz I never even fired a shot on the grounds of common sense. I lie the idea behind them, soooo, may still try another one but not without putting it together in the shop first???

yeah the more i read up about this rifle and the spotty accuracy and constant issues i think im going with the savage b22 precision. this review makes the rifle look "ok" at best but there is far to much negative i keep finding about these. that and the chassis really should have been aluminum. that this point its not a chassis at all just another tacticool stock
@adigaarmory
@adigaarmory 4 года назад
I hear you. Not sure if it is caused by the chassis though because the receiver/action itself is steel, and the barrel is free floating. This unit is definitely very accurate, but the 1st or 2nd shot fliers [cold barrel] are definitely a concern, as you really need that 1st shot to be on.

@adigaarmory 2 года назад
Basic rule when you make YT videos, you don't post a lot of dead air time, or you lose people fast. So we trimmed the dead time in between. It was a 30 second max time limit on the 8-shot string. You can see it hit every every target. The point is that it is capable of hitting small targets. The speed aspect is up to the user. It goes as fast as you do.

@adigaarmory
@adigaarmory 4 года назад
I hear you... it was however a true, successful single 8-shot string with 8 consecutive hits. The rifle is definitely capable of it if I do my part. We just trim the dead air time between shots to keep videos concise. We don't "advertise" so to speak for any gun maker so we don't get paid to lie to you. We just tell you honestly what we like and what we don't like.
