Here is a first tour of the Ranchalow, sponsored by Simply Self Storage. It is very much a work in progress, but I wanted to give you an overview of what I’m working with. This is a living BEFORE, so I will share more, as it evolves. I don’t have a ton of storage inside my house so I share my creative ways of making space without it looking like “storage.”

You really have a gift, you know? Even when you are only half moved in and still unsure about how to arrange things, your home is already a lot more original, whimsical and beautiful than most homes I've seen. I love the ranchalow, the light in there and the feel of the place remind me a lot of the first childhood home I remember in the south of France.

Naima Zaheer Cool! That’s my intention! Show more of the process/progress as I go. There will definitely be some full makeovers but real life is a little bit at a time in each room! Especially when you thrift! You never know what & when you’ll find it!

Old World Home keep the AC but make it cute! Yessssss! My new mantra. Hahaha! I’ve got two of them so I’m going to tackle those and share two ways to do exactly that! It’s the bane of many renters existence! I gotta tell you that cooler in my bedroom has been amazing! Me and the dogs hole up in our little icebox when it’s truly unbearable! Lol

debbie bradek It’s happening. I’ve had a realization. I feel stupid to talk about it until I’ve proven myself if that makes sense! More action, less talk! If you keep the curtain rod and the top of the curtains running parallel to the ceiling, then you can fool the eye. You’ll have to adjust the hem on an angle.

Oh my! What a gorgeous place. Am sure you will make it look great, it has really good bones. That brick wall is amazing. Please dont paint it! I know you love a mix of old things and new, so brick wall is everything in a country home. Plus, am obsessed with those pathways in the garden. I hope you add flowers as well, garden does look a little sad. Looking forward to seeing the changes 🥰🥰

Lyric Blue It’s my favorite! It’s so funny because I was looking at my IG the other day and about one year ago exactly I wrote a post saying I dreamed of that etc etc. and it was trippy to read it now that it’s my reality! Can I just say that I love that you're showing this progress update! I moved in 4 months ago to my forever home (a 70s original, baby) and people who I invite over always seem to hound me about what I need/what I need to do + change about my space. Like GIRL!!! I see what you mean, I am not blind! Give me time/space/money to execute my vision and you will see! BTW, love that She Shed. If I had a space like that, I'd make it into a painting space. Picture it: easel, canvas, cute stool, speakers for music, kitschy vintage storage (like a rattan shelf, you know). I see your vision and I know you'll make it great. Here's to time/space/money! :)

Hey Mary Elizabeth, this just came up in my suggestions, even though I watched and liked it when you posted but last year, and it made me think that an updated tour of your whole house, now that you’ve done most of these things would be delightful. I know it’s ever changing as you shift items around but now that all the rooms are close to done (did you do the bathroom?i don’t remember) it’d be nice to see the whole place in one space again as you walk us through. emmie jackson They are fly masks for the summertime when flies are out of control. They can see through them as they are net but it’s much more comfortable without flies in their eyes & ears!

In regards to thr wonky ceiling, Tom Silva from This Old House had said it better to make things "look" level than to be actually level when working in older homes. You want it to be "pleasing to the eye" and then the imperfections will disappear 😉

Such a cute house. I love the chest of drawers in the bathroom. The drape thing and slanted ceiling has me stumped. What about creating a cornice to hie the hardware, hem the curtains after you hang them so the length is right.

gosh i hope you get to stay there a good long time. you have such a nice place to get a garden going. you could use it as a whole outdoor living area......hope you can find some well priced cushions for that iron sofa......ooh maybe an outdoor bed, with mosquito netting and fairy lights?

It’s funny you say🥁..you don’t know how to put things up straight because I “invented” a method. I put up one side then I take a plastic bottle filled halfway up the ladder when I ready to hang the other side. I place the bottle on it ‘s side and use the waterline to see when it’s straight. I hope this helps people but be sure the bottle is plastic and you put the cap on. LOL

Gabriela Gussoni it’s a fly mask! He’s ok it just keeps flys and bugs off of his eyes and ears so they don’t irritate or bite him. They are comfortable and safe for him to wear and he can see out of it too. Many Horse owners use masks, especially in this heat to keep flys or misquotes from biting their faces.
