The Tele has this beautiful jangle especially in crunch and clean. Whereas the Valentine beefs up the sound without acting like a humbucker. One of these days I need to get my hands on a Valentine. It feels like I would really love the versatility and the comfort of that Valentine. But the Telecaster has that janglely sound that I love. Lovely guitars you have!
Yes the difference is pickup output is definitely noticable. Though if you just turn down the volume or output a bit on the amp they sound extremely similar. The Valentine is definitely incredibly versatile. Such a well made and well rounded instrument! Thank you! I appreciate it so much! 🙂
Great video, both guitars sounded really good! I’ve always thought of the Valentine as a more versatile, modern take on the classic telecaster. The Valentine has the coil split option for the neck pick-up and an built-in boost, and you can also get it with a trem, which to me means you can cover more bases than with just a normal tele. Both awesome guitars though!
Great tone examples my friend! Both sound awesome. You definitely can't beat the Val for feel, comfort & versatility! I really dig the 'tele' sound but when I play them it just doesn't work for me. I think I gravitate to darker tones. Switching out the bridge pickup on the Valentine to a BKP Silo made this the perfect guitar for me!
It's weird how that works, I'm the same with EMGs. Can sound amazing but when I play myself I just can't make it work at all! The Silo does seem amazing! Would love to try it out at some point! 🙂
Here's what you do: Play the more comfortable guitar, and slap a 10 band EQ on your board. Those guitars are close enough that you can bridge the difference with an EQ.
Tele and T-type guitar models can sound so different from each other from time to time, so it’s almost hard to compare one particular Tele to the Valentine. My Valentine is so easy to play. I love the variety of sounds it’s capable of. It has such a clear and articulate voice, which is a very Tele thing. Truly one of the best playing guitars I’ve ever played.
Your tone is so damn good man! I'm really surprised. Your tele sounds way better than the Musicman. Thinner(in a good way) and more cut on the high end. Didn't sound as hot either.
As a telly and sg lover, I am on the verge of buying a Valentine to complete the collection and replace both live. I just find musicman a bit fizzy or HiFi if you like, maybe it's just RU-vid. Would love to know your view on this.
I don't find it fizzy at all. Hifi maybe, though I feel like that's something fairly easily controlled, the guitar has loads of definition, I see it as a good thing overall. Better platform to sculpt the sound. I'd still pick my Valentine over any other guitar I own and I both a Fender Tele and a Gibson SG Standard (2005) as well. It's just an incredible piece of gear. I bought mine blind too, had never held or played a music man before.
@@alexradsby thanks a lot for your input, I had the chance to try one but it was years ago but I didn't buy then for some reason. I fear it will lack the character that defects sometimes add if it makes any sense. That being said the other guitarist from my band has a musicman and it's flawless.
I totally understand. Music Man guitars are just as close to custom quality you can get with a production built guitar so I can see your point for sure. To me they are the perfect working mans tool. I always like to keep my character guitars too, like my Jazzmasters, loads of flaws but tons of character. 😅 Check instagram.com/williamjohnbennettiii he just got a Valentine as well 🙂
