Whole plant foods tend to be less calorie dense than animal products. Fiber makes you feel full, and potatoes are one of the most satiating whole foods. A whole food plant based diet makes eating the right amount of calories automatic. Just eat a well planned, varied diet and you won't have to worry about getting the proper amount of nutrients. In the Adventist Health Studies, the only dietary group with an average BMI in the recommended range was the vegan group. "From 2001 and 2007, we enrolled as participants 96,000 Adventists, ages 30 to 112, from all 50 U.S. states and Canada."

Everyone is different. I have tried WFPB diet many times (starting with the book "The McDouall Plan" in 1990 and on up through Drs. Esselstyn, Fuhrman and Greger), always trying to get it right. I have never felt satisfied on WFPB. I always feel full but unsatisfied. Same thing goes for keto. Fat makes me feel full but unsatisfied. I need a more balanced approach and that means plants plus animal proteins. 🤷

1:35 I have trouble believing that excess carbohydrate turns into 100% saturated fat. Cellulose (fiber) is a type of carbohydrate and is non-digestible in humans. Also, converting other carbs into some type of fat is quite energy-inefficient from my understanding.

I agree, to a good extent. Keeping overall calories low (500 or lower) that includes a good balance of saturated fats, protein and complex carbs has helped me slow down the blood glucose rise.

When he said ”excess carbohydrates”, I would have asked him to clarify what he means. Because I don’t think a 70% carb diet consisting of whole plants will increase diabetes risk.

If you read his book you'll get most of the answers your looking for regarding prevention and reversal of T2DM. The principal rule is to have a waist line about 1/2 of your height. It's visceral fat on the liver that causes the disease once the fat is gone so goes the disease. Carbs aren't the problem it's excess body weight that is the underlying issue. However that doesn't mean you should be eating a lot of processed carbohydrates either because it could cause accumulation of fat being stored on the liver. But excess body weight is really the main concept to focus on.

@@videoartsproductions1 Yes, I know and yes I read his book. My concern is that he doesn’t differentiate between different sources of carbs and thereby contributes to the confusion among the general public who are afraid of eating an apple or adding some wheat berries to their sallad.

I'm not sure but when he mentions excess carbs I don't think he's talking about carbs that are attached to fiber etc. Maybe he doesn't look at it that way. His biggest focus is just getting people to the proper fat threshold or tolerance as he puts it. This is not Dr. Taylor's area of expertise so I don't put a lot stock into what he says about those things even those he's a brilliant man. He focuses on a Mediterranean diet in his book for transitioning people. I suspect he has his reasons for that. Your correct a lot people are fixated on carbs because they don't understand the difference and they have been programed by all these low carb diet fads for decades so it's going to take time to change that narrative between what a whole food is and what’s not. If it wasn't for Dr. Taylor's work identifying non-alcoholic fatty liver disease as the root cause of T2DB we'd be still focusing on excess carbohydrates consumption as the culprit. So, we owe him a lot of credit for that hypothesis.@@reason3581

I respect Roy but he’s old school.The fat you eat is the fat you wear .I doubt Roy has met a person that mostly eat carbs(starch) because it’s practically impossible to suffer from obesity or liver or pancreas fat storage being a plant based

@@doddsalfasince you obviously know so much more than me you should try the fructose diet: eat only fruit, switch from sucrose to fructose, drink as much alcohol as you want. If you’re right, it should be practically impossible to suffer from obesity or fatty liver

Scientific studies were cited in the video. What evidence do you have that is more convincing? So far, those who watched the video are a lot more likely to believe the evidence presented than an unsupported claim to the contrary from a random person with an internet connection.
