I find myself gifted in being a highly observant and (most of the time) introverted Christian. As a result I end up observing people and their situations which gives me a lot to pray for. I'm not always the center of attention but I try not to be self-centered.

Having read the comments, I can see how 'introversion' is still highly misunderstood by our society. People have always made up their minds about me before giving me a chance and yes, a lot of us can be hard to approach but most of us aren't selfish. Selfishness can exist in any personality. However, I understand why this question was posed... Because we don't find understanding in the world we can become even more shut off and stand offish due to either being tired of pretending we're loud only for it to come off as awkward and insincere which leads to rejection or from deciding that we're better than extroverts because we're usually more attentive, introspective and kind(in our own way) I can respect pastor John's advice because I believe him to be wise and speak with the guidance of the Holy Spirit however, I would add to my fellow introverts that in order to gaurd against selfishness you need to remember that the people who make judgements of us do not know us. They do not know our hearts. Remind yourself that God made you this way for a reason so use the introspection to be empathetic and pray for those that the more extraverted of the body might not notice. I know it sucks to feel like you're living in an extroverts world and you need to conform or people will attach whatever characteristics they want to attach to you without real cause but let us gaurd against any selfishness because we don't need their approval. That's one of our God given strengths.

Well said. We seek the approval of God & not of man. I kept myself in the backseat for fear ( shy/ passive) of people. Then God taught me that there's no one to fear but God alone. It encouraged/ gave me strength to stand before others and tell them the greatness of God in our life. Cowardice is the enemy's tool to keep our mouth shut in proclaiming the goodness of God. God's strength, in our weakness.

Mpumi. Very well said. We have to also remember that there are others like us that we can comfort, with the comfort Christ gives us, just as Scripture says. God has much for us to do, that only we can do, we just have to look past ourselves and our discomfort to trust and obey Him. He equips the introvert and extrovert for specific tasks for each gifting. Never apologize for being introverted, just let God lead us through this amazing journey.

This was posted two years ago. No one might see this comment but I finished my three day fast and I have been following Pastor John for a few months now and to end my day of fasting with this, my most crippling thorn that has been in my soul my whole life, every waking moment... God bless this man, I’ll have to listen to this more and more to soak in it. But it was perfect for me.

Wow. Thank you! As a teacher, musician singer and songwriter I tend to stay busy studying writing and practicing. Sometimes I feel guilty for doing so or that I feel abnormal to everybody else because I’m not as sociable. I have struggled with understanding if my solitude is helpful or not, but as long as I am using it to glorify God with much productivity...it’s fine. Thank you for the clarity and direction. May God bless you all. -Ronnie

I’ve battled with isolation for the last 11 years, and it led me to finding myself, finding God, my true identity in Christ. Atleast I “thought it was a battle, What all this did was awaken the spirit within. While many are living stuck in the matrix of this world, for me it was the opposite. I stopped doing everything just because I saw more value in finding myself, finding the truth, which is the most high above God, whilst others are seeking worldly things. This has been my issue with Christianity. They’re the most selfish even more selfish than non-believers. They see the benefits of being “free” and seek for worldly things, yet the most beautiful thing about having God in ones life is that he shows you everything that is Good and shows you where not to go. This is very spiritual. Kinda like the food we eat. Or the water we drink, the sun that connects with us, GIVING to others who are in need, taking to others who are down or alone and need guidance. I see nothing of this in Christianity. Instead, we see them chasing worldly things that benefits them in a Capitalistic system, then thank God for it. I have become an extrovert now yet I’m in between but show the kindness and love God has given me. Through my isolation I learned a lot of psychology just me thinking a lot, a lot of mental gymnastics. In the end, all leads to God and his creation and how he made us in his image. We rather seek for worldly “dust” instead of spiritual wisdom. A lifetime of spiritually growing except “christians” aren’t spiritual, they are materialistic consumers.

Excellent twist on the defense of personality types. I now know without a doubt that getting what my flesh wants leads to misery. Avoiding people because of my discomfort takes my out of the race to advance the Kingdom of God. Thank you for the fresh perspective to combat a worldly defense of acceptable selfish behavior and motives.

I''m an introvert myself and I disapprove with categorizing yourself as an introvert/extrovert but rather simply recognizing that you have a specific specialty in ways of serving others and may be less gifted with the opposite personality trait. As an introvert I refuse to categorize myself because when I do, it basically limits me from serving others and glorifying God to my full potential. Though I do recognize I may not be as skilled in communicating well however God has helped me to cultivate my gift in effectively listening to people's deepest emotional concerns. It took me a while to embrace my self and understanding that we all have unique gifts no matter if you are an extrovert or an introvert; there are no limitations.

I get what you’re saying and I’ve tried to get myself in social situations to no avail..... It’s gotten to the point I can’t even get myself involved in a church cause I really don’t fit in with anyone. It’s kind of hard not to think “selfishly” as you guys put it because of the way I am while I’ve been hoping God can change me for the better.... It doesn’t happen and I’m honestly starting to believe things are just not meant to work out for me. I don’t understand how I can even serve His purpose bein this way. I’ve taken those steps to try but idk... My faith is slowly burning out.

There are still things we can do for God, regardless if we are introverted or not. Btw im an introvert...one thats slowly trying to get herself out there and talk more. But even if i cant do that, i can still share to people by showing Christ in my life by the way i live. Do it for God, not for anyone else nor for fitting in. I know i belong with God.

And maybe pray to the Lord to help bring good people around you so you my have a friend. Although Jesus is the best friend anyone can have. He is always with you in your lonely times. If you are not going to church, I strongly ask you to study the Word as much as you can. Use your time wisely, get closer to God. Read the Bible and always pray. Don't give up! I used to be EXACTLY like you! It took me 9 years until I finally opened up and discovered my potential in Christ "WITHOUT" changing myself. God doesn't make a mistake when He makes us. You are different for a reason, and our personality trait whether introvert or extrovert - is a gift from God. Your church, the circle of people you are surrounded with, your community; they need you. God has put something inside of you for you to meet the need of specific people surrounding your life. Continue to talk to God in prayer and be very personal and specific to Him. He doesn't pass your prayers by and He knows exactly what you are feeling and are going through. Don't let the enemy steal your potential, your joy, and your purpose with his lies. Read the bible more and meditate in His word!

In my comfort zone, I like to dig deeper in the Bible and the doctrines of theology. I can spend my alone time in prayer. Though sometimes there are so many hindrance and distraction but then I love spending time alone and meditating. Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one. (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12) living a quiet life can be a good witness for Christ. Staying calm, minding your own business, and doing your own job is all about behaving with integrity and being a good witness. Don't try to force a square peg into a round hole, we are individuals and God has a purpose for each one but it won't always be in the limelight just as Martha was always busy serving and being hospitable, Mary sat at Jesus feet learning from Him. Be who God created you to be and serve where He has placed you. I am an introvert who for years tried to be an extrovert and got into a lot of trouble. Now I can serve right where I am, disabled , living quietly at home but writing and commenting on secular you tube channels reaching out to people with the gospel message. Most of my work is done on my knees.

I think people like you are under-appreciated in the body of Christ. I think it's awesome that the body of Christ is so diverse. We must always be careful as a hand (referring to the body) not to think the invisible internal organs are less important. Or to say that they should be a hand as well. The hand can't function without the internals, and both can't function without the Head, wich is Christ.

She posts about this justification on FB, which enables others like her to feel justified for un-Christ-like behavior. I corrected her once on something else and she didn’t receive it well AT ALL. The next time she posts about introverted Christians, I will respond with this link and ask about her thoughts on it in hopes of broadening her mind and uprooting the possible seed that was planted in her about introversion.

From reading some of the earlier comments, I thought it may be helpful to suggest/point out that at 5:54 (and in the blurb, and later) where Pastor John mentions "peculiar personality" I think he is using 'peculiar' with the perhaps older meaning (less familiar to some) of "belonging to, relating to, or found in only particular people or things" or "characteristic especially of a particular person, group, or thing" (dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/peculiar) I.e. he says peculiar meaning unique to you or me, not with the meaning strange or weird. It's not said in any derogatory way! So as I understand Pastor John, he is saying that whichever personality type you feel you have, you can use it to be a source of grace or blessing to others. I've always thought of myself as more introverted than extroverted and have sometimes really struggled with group settings for example, but this has helped me to see that recognizing my unique, or you could say peculiar, gifts is a very empowering thing and brings focus to my service for God. God has taught me not to be down on myself for not feeling able to do social events as often as some do or as I may feel I 'should' (comparison is often fruitless), but rather to focus on how the emotional energy I do have can be used in different ways, like some of the examples he gave of mercy, giving, service or encouragement etc. Pastor John's own example of using his solitude to be as productive as possible is very inspiring... and challenging! I felt it was a helpful talk overall.

Denying personality traits like intro/extravert isn't good. It's like saying surgery for appendicitis is "not a biblical category for healing". Knowing about personality traits (like the 16 personality types) has helped tremendously to understand major differences in other people (amd myself) and therefore, has helped me to work with in a team much more effectively. For things like organisation, some people are more naturally organised, and I go more with the flow, there isn't one that's better, but both have to learn the trait of the other that we don't have or at least adapt ourselves with different people. Having said that, I agree personality traits should NOT be used as an excuse, and we should always strive to change, get better, aligning our lives on the life of the Spirit bearing its good fruits!

It's just a statement of fact without revealing all the details of our lives - LOL! I struggle so much with people, but I'm ALWAYS available when someone NEEDS something. I'm a protector type who will go to bat for another even when afraid, BUT I don't go out of my way to get involved in all the social stuff like talking about nothing, talking about other people or complaining about this or that. I don't need any of that, so I DO often prefer the company of dogs - we have five four legged fur babies - so I'd say I have a good circle of "friends." I dismiss the whole premise - Introverts are NOT "peculiar" - and why isn't the same sort of questions asked of the extrovert population? I would venture that it is because the questions are being posed by extroverts and their "peculiar personality bent" is beyond being examined as to how they can be a means of grace to others. In other words, the common tendency is to think if introverts would just start being more like their extrovert brothers and sisters, then the church would be a much better place. I reject that line of thinking. It may sound harsh, but it remains true nonetheless - The extrovert population needs us a whole lot more than we need them.

I believe you misunderstood what he was talking about. He said introverts and extroverts should find how they can maximize their own strengths. Remaining in your comfortzone in the sense that you are not trying to become an extrovert, But also leaving your comfortzone in the sense you try to be your own best version. And in doing this, an introvert becomes a blessing in a way extroverts cannot be. So the parts of the body of Christ cooperate.

@@gergelypasztorkicsi7854 - I didn't misunderstand the premise at all - Like I stated - the underlying assumption here is that the specific tendency or "sin" of selfishness is inherently the trait of the introvert - and if the introvert wants to combat this tendency, they must begin to believe and act like an extrovert - "to maximize their own strengths" is just another way of saying that an introvert needs to behave more like an extrovert - and it is that that I reject. Can someone help me with luke 14:26? This youtuber decided to put this one too me since she was preaching hate and I was countering with love and compassion. I did my best to try to explain it since it was clear to me she had decided to take this verse as a literal command and it reads like a metaphor. I feel like he was saying "anyone who doesn't need jesus does not hate" and since everyone has a little hate in their heart they need jesus! but the rest of the chapter doesn't seem to "fit the bill"... I have googled and some people say he is using a strong metaphor that we will have to make sacrifices. although this "fits the bill" I don't feel like it fits the verse as it would then seem like a comandment. I have had passages like this in the past and usually when I find my answer it's like solving a riddle! You just know it's truth!
@lycanTYD3

In the verse, Jesus is defining the line of where our loyalties should lie. For you to love one thing, You must hate another. I'll give an example, if you love children, then you should be against abortion. If you love your spouse, then you hate sex outside of marriage. If you love holiness, then you detest wickedness. Jesus is essentially expressing that for you to follow Him, which would mean trusting Him with everything, then any other sources of trust that have any supreme power over your lifestyle must be traded if you decide to follow Him. The verse echoes Luke 9:60 "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the gospel." If Jesus is God and the gospel is true, He is supremely worthy of your loyalty, but it's you who decides whether or not He has your "all" or not. He want all of you or nothing at all. Because He loves you, but He will not force you to love Him. Lest He be a tyrant. And who wants to be loved out of obligation. Wouldn't you rather be loved wholeheartedly by someone rather than telling that person to love you? And Jesus proved His love for us on the cross. And still intercedes on our behalf. But will we choose Him? Is He worth it?
@blangat6160
@blangat6160 5 лет назад
Yes, I agree. It's about choice. Remember he repeats the same thing in Matthew 10:37, but instead uses the phrase, "love his father or mother more than me". It emphasizes the choice you have to make to follow Jesus. You must love him more than even your own life if you are to be worthy of being his disciple. And this is seen among all people pf God. Abraham left his homeland to obey God; he was willing to sacrifice his beloved son because God required it of him. Fasting and sacrificing are all examples of us hating other things and loving God only. And remember even the Father Himself sacrificed His Son in order to save us. Jesus, though he was God, gave up his divine privileges and the eternal union and glory he's shared with the Father, and emptied himself and took the form of a slave, and was born a human being. He humbled himself to a criminals death on the cross. When he says you must hate your father and mother and love him, he is asking us to choose: will you cling to your earthly family and pleasures or will you give them up like the disciples, and follow him. But remember he promises in Matthew 18:27-29, that he will repay you a hundred times over for all you give up in this lifetime, and that he will also grant you eternal life when he returns. (Further reading in Genesis 22; Philipians 2:4-9; Matthew 8:18-22, 16:24.)

Looking at this title is a BIG TURNOFF!! Introverts can be selfless and extroverts can be selfish. I am an introvert and have a heart to do anything for anyone. I know extroverts who are disrespectful, don't respect boundaries, and can be selfish. So, just because a person is quiet and not social doesn't mean that he/she is selfish.

Can an introvert that has gone astray from God and service be serving Him and bear fruits.. coz that's what happened to me. I just felt so much loss if I am going to think of back then.. I wasted my time unwisely.. made wrong decisions and even my role modeling to my siblings had gone bcoz of my past mistakes. But I still longed for God to use me.. how can He use me I need help. I think first just go back to God and work from there, when we go back to God he guide us to do whatever is within his will. Repent and move on as God says he will forgive us and remember our sins no more guilt if not conviction from the Holy Spirit will do more harm than good, just keep going ♥️

Give only in true need, by getting closer to God and only giving where God wants you to. Or example: it's easy to give flowers to a girl or candy to a baby, but it's harder to give time to the homeless or time when you dont have much.

The title of this item is misleading. As if introverted Christian's are prone to selfishness. The word introvert is a worldly linguistic adjective for a personality type. As a Christian "introverts" we can still serve Christ in many ways. I do see the speakers point though.

Well you can’t desire God it’s impossible... Why... John Piper believes in predestination... Unless John starts the sermon with, “If you were predestined to Desire God......,” funny how Calvinist ministers preach anti Calvinist messages and sound like Arminian ministers.. I am sure it’s a great sermon... For Calvinist parishioners who are limited in their bible understanding, and are trained to accept everything’ they hear. “Bobble Head Believers,” Praying for all Of you.... PS, you weren’t selected above everyone else to be special, elected or preserved... THE GOD OF ALL DID THAT FOR EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES.....

Have you considered that election is a doctrine about salvation and not necessarily every individual moment and action. The point Paul makes in Romans 9 is that there is no room for boasting about our salvation (boasting in ourselves at least). Your last statement is true, but if you read Romans 3 you find that no one seeks God, no one believes without a strong supernatural work in their lives. Election simply teaches that that supernatural work cannot be resisted. Calvinist ministers can sound a lot like Arminian ministers because the message is mostly the same. Whether you are saved by an undeserved grace that can be resisted or not, the Bible gives the same commands to desire Him and serve Him in obedience. So can we unite in humbly serving our God obediently together? Calls to unity are prevalent throughout the Bible, and I would rather be united than argue about a doctrine that should have no effect on what we do.

Marty Blackman Which proves CALVINISM IS WRONG... Your choice is God Given.. Calvinism removes it. Reformed Churches. If you follow Jesus daily, what do you follow? The biblical Jesus or the Reformed Jesus.. The biblical Jesus is the one who said.. 1. FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLED John 3:16 NASBS [16] "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 2. For GOD DID NOT SEND HIS SON TO CONDEMN THE WORLD John 3:19 John 3:17 NASBS [17] For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 3. HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM IS NOT JUDGED John 3:18 NASBS [18] He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 3 Scriptures Reformist DONT BELIEVE.. 1. Reformist don’t Believe Jesus died for the whole World.. WRONG!!!!!!! 1. GOD IS LOVE IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO PAECEL OUT HIS LOVE.. GOD DID NOT HATE ESAÚ, GOD HATED THAT ESAÚ SOLD HIS BIRTHRIGHT... How do we know this John 3:16-18 and the following scripture.. 1 John 4:8 NASBS [8] The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. So if God did not love Esaú???? God does not know God? Do you see how stupid reformed doctrine is? 1 John 4:8 NASBS [8] The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. Again proving God hated what Esaú did.. disobedience.. GOD CANNOT NOT LOVE!!! Turn your SPIRITUAL BRAIN ON!!!!! 2. 1 John 2:2 NASBS [2] and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. For the whole world not just Self Righteous Reformist! 3. HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM IS NOT CONDEMNED... This is why I don’t condemn Calvinist themselves BECAUSE THEY SAY THEY BELIVE IN JESUS.. THE QUESTION IS WHICH JESUS DO YOU BELIEVE IN!!!!! Galatians 1:8-9 NASBS [8] But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! [9] As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! I am not your Judge.. God is, God will decide if the Reformed Jesus you believe is the Jesus Of John 3:16-18, The Jesus Of Love Of 1 John 4:8. The Jesus who is the propitiation for the whole world of 1 John 2:2 That’s my Jesus. PS the garbage TULIP Doctrine WILL NOT SAVE YOU.... So let me Clarify Follow the Jesus.. Of John 3:16-18, 1 John 4:8, 1 John 2:2

believing in a higher power is pretty selfish in itself IMO. The arrogance to assume you are right (without a single piece of empirical evidence) over other religios and also secular people is unfathomable. Also what is more holy in your eyes: doing a good dead for some eventual reward (ie heaven) or doing it because it's the correct thing to do? Sadly I find most "christians" i talk to seem to think the former (more anglican/protestant thought processes than catholilc ones in my experience).

No, we don't do good deeds to get to heaven. If you try to get to heaven by doing good deeds, you'll wake up in hell. The people who told you this are gravely mistaken and it's not what Christianity teaches. The only way to get to heaven is by believing on Jesus Christ. Let me explain why. We humans are all sinners. That is, we all do bad things. Some more than others, but inside we are just as evil. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23 ESV. We are all guilty according to God's law. Some more than others, but none of us would go to heaven. This is where Jesus comes in. He became God in the flesh. That is, He was God, but He was also human. The only perfect human being ever to walk this earth. He gave Himself willingly to be tortured and killed, but that was not the worst He went trough. God put all the punishment that we deserve, on Him. He paid the fine you could say. "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time." 1 Timothy 2:5‭-‬6 ESV After He died, He rose again in three days. To prove He not only paid our debt. But he also conquered sin and death so we can have victory over sin and be reconciled with God. That's where 'good works' come in. When we are reconciled with God, His Spirit dwells in us. This will produce 'fruits' the Bible says. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness," Galatians 5:22 ESV This is what leads to good works. So good works are a product of being reconciled with the living God, not the prerequisite to get to heaven. Thank you if you made it this far, that you even read it at all. If you have questions please ask or, even better, look at the website www.gotquestions.org I hope and pray that God will work in your life. Peace and may God bless you.

@@stewoe7157 you have made blind assumptions based on coopted and doctored texts. The bible is an amalgalm of many different religions and beliefs (eg the co-opting of the Roman celebration of Saturnalia and turning it into christmas) in order to placate the many and "bring them into the fold" asitwere. What makes you think people should believe the unevidenced, edited and co-opted material collected by (probably very well-meaning) shepherds 2 thousand years ago? The bible (at the time at least) served as a way to explain many things that they couldn't (ie without having the scientific method) and it served as an excellent shared myth (or intersubjective reality as Harare would put it) in order to build commonality between non-familial humans.

Thank you so much for this ❤️As an introvert myself I used to feel so guilty after leaving a social group because I thought I was being selfish because the Bible says we must love each other just as we love ourselves. But now I understand that I can leave but do something to help be a witness of Christ.
