my city has a road thats super bad but instead of fixing it they just put up a sign that says "motorcycles use caution", never seen a single attempt to fix it, dont know how people approve a manhole cover that high up in the first place but glad to hear you're alright

People generally need to chill out about the idea of dropping their bikes. Just because you fall off doesn't mean you've got to stop riding. Eventually it'll happen to all of us but you've gotta practice so that you can actually learn from your accidents

You're always on point, but the conclusion of "hey, maybe this road has more than the usual risks" is perfection.

In punk diy circles you'll hear people tell you to put your political patches on the front of your battle vest because if you're gonna piss someone off enough for them to swing at you, you want to be able to see them coming. I had been riding for less than a month in October on my first bike when I misjudged a turn in wet and low light conditions and ended up crashing into a median curb, totaling the bike. I hadn’t even made my first payment yet and you have no idea how much it helped me to hear what you said about how crashing is just a part of riding. Really makes me feel like I can get back on a bike once I’m in a good financial position to do so again. Especially as a trans person, yours has always been some of my favorite riding content. Don't want to be the wise guy, but one thing I learned from an instructor is that you can brake in a corner and not run wide by counter steering instantly at the same time. You can train this in a circle on a parking lot. I'm pretty sure slowing down a bit would have helped in this situation. You were going quite fast on a sketchy road surface. Glad you are ok!

A tale as old as time, I've done similar but with cracks in the road, the all black carbon is gorgeous.

I stopped riding motorcycles, rock climbing and flying airplanes in my 20's. It wasn't a lack of skills so much as I recognized my lack of sound judgment and didn't want to suffer the consequences. I redirected my desire for thrill seeking in competitive business ventures. It was exciting, the risks were real but the consequence of failure was mostly just money so I could always recover. I started riding dual sports in my 50's. My judgment has improved and I'm having a ball, I do fall a lot but so far not in a way to cause anything but the slightest of injuries. The way you slid was very akin to how i lost control on my bicycle on a patch of sand on the end of the roadway. Besides my shattered wrist I felt the same way when I slid into the curb. Just need to get back up and keep on 'biking'.

Glad you are in one piece. Just this morning I had a crash on my way to work, nothing serious but it was still a reminder that I have A LOOOT to learn about rinding in less than ideal conditions.

I say the same thing. My first accident would never happen today. I was so mad at the time and blamed the girl for not waiting at the stop sign, even though I was the unskilled jackass riding too fast on a public road 2 blocks from my house. Then October 2022 I humbled myself again by standing up to pull up my pants at 80mph in a headwind and went off the back reaching for the bars like a bad cartoon character getting sucked out of an airplane reaching for anything to stop the inevitable. Sidestory, when I called the police station to find out what tow yard my bike was at. The cop told me he was working that day and a lady called the station to report that she got passed by a motorcycle without a passenger. I can only imagine what was going through her head seeing that. So it made the pain kinda worth it. So yeah wear the gear no matter how uncomfortable it is at first. I was wearing gear that day, but they were riding shoes instead of riding boots and I had to get surgery to put the meat of my leg back together after my passenger peg sliced me open down to the tendon almost severing my Achilles tendon. So now it looks like I got attacked by a shark even though I avoid the ocean so I don’t get attacked by a shark. So street sharks-1 me-0

I'm sorry this happened. Could happen to anyone. Unlucky. Fortunately you weren't seriously hurt and even better that you took it in stride, didn't let crush your spirit. You handled the whole thing remarkably well. Hope you and your R1M heal up just fine.

It really is when you're doing routine things that you crash a lot of the time. I remember before I crashed my ninja 400 I felt super tired so I just decided to go the speed limit, follow traffic, not lane split etc. Bonked into a dude who slammed him breaks on a yellow light

I'm a new rider but people tell me I look comfortable on my bike, what they don't see is my hours of figure 8s and emergency stopping practice

this has made me much more comfortable with the reality and consequences of crashing. Yeah, it sucks, and it can be expensive, but life does go on, and its just a mechanical thing (even though its my baby) and it can be fixed. This is the most reasonable, level headed "oops, shit i crashed" from a content creator (thats not explicitly a stunt rider) that i've ever seen. Glad you're not hurt too bad. I had a similar crash in August, whilst wearing full gear, and I still smashed my foot up badly and needed surgery. Just goes to show how random motorbike crashes are.

Racers crash because they're riding on the edge of their bike's limits, a lot of moto gp racers don't even ride on the street. He crashed because he hit a sewer lid riding too fast for the road conditions.

Did the same this year on a late season ride. Cold, a little wet, the bike telling me over and over that it didn't like this, I roll off and straighten to go over a wooden bridge, make that and then, 50 feet later, maybe 50, it folds like a ko from an mma fighter. My 14r, down...again. I'm full gear so I got a sprained ankle and bruised hip. I've been riding since the 90s. That ends the season for me but I fixed it up properly and put a cage on it.😄

I crashed my Fat Boy too. In November, I highsided in the rain on that exit from i5 south to I90 east. Funny enough at nearly the same speed as you, 50mph. Solidarity in crashing our dream bikes? That view of my bike on the freeway median laying there after it finally came to a stop is burned into my brain. That reaction you had I felt that personally :< Luckily my bike is in the shop being repaired, so it will be back. Im glad you're ok, glad your bike is ok.

Ironic that you crashed your bike, I crashed my budddies sv650s on April 28th out in tahuya and had to get heli-vaced out to Harborview last year. Glad to hear your ok and glad I’m able to continue to watch your vids (I only broke my left femur in half and my left arm got a little messed up 😂) still wish to meet you out in Seattle some time:) I’ll be on my yellow magna lol

Damn, what I learned from my two motorcycle crashes so far is to ride slow in the city- there’s too much unpredictability in terms of people and crap on the road. But I’m glad your R1M still has some life in it and no broken bones on your end. My SV650S is still my daily driver and doesn’t look super ratty thanks to my frame sliders. I stopped caring about the aesthetics of it and babying it after my first crash though😂

You know, scars are part of your story. So now you have some new story marks, and you're still here to tell it. "It feels so different!" Yeah, dude, y'all basically rebuilt the bike. I felt that frustration from you, and when you stood it back up, I was literally chanting "C'mon, baby, start" and also "Breathe, AJ, breathe". Glad you're in one piece AND the bike lives again.

Not gonna lie the Hotline Miami 2 music sent me to another world. Was not expecting to hear The Green Kingdom after a motorcycle crash today.

If you want some slideable pants that look normal and are comfortable, I've been loving my Bull-It Arc Slim jeans. Bought some other moto jeans in the past and hated everything about them, but with the bull-its I regularly forget I'm not wearing just my regular jeans. I don't bother with the pads but it's nice to have something with an AA slide rating that I can feel normal walking around in.

This vid helped with the frustration I felt with my recent crash, have a 2022 R7 just got new tyres (first time riding on new tyres) 2nd corner leaving the mechanics and rear slid out on me and I snapped the right bar clean off, had to push it straight back to the mechanics, was so annoyed but learnt alot about riding in new tyres the hard way ❤️

Nothing is as gutting as crashing your motorcycle. I wish more riders would tske yout approach of always seeking to sharpen skills and learning more about riding. As you stated there is only so much taught in the new rider training. As a previous instructor, we are too busy trying to teach new riders: a. How to use the clutch (it isnt an on off switch). B. Counter steering is a forward push on the bar (not down as some other terrible channel would try to convince people.) And it actually makes the bike lean and turn. I may wear more gear and look like a nerd, but i definitely don't judge you on that account. I just have a lower threshold for road rash than you do when i crash doing dumb but fun shit on my bike.

A part of the reason why I transitioned from sport bikes to supermotos is that crashing won't be an event significant enough to warrant a video about it. Nowadays when I crash, I don't even get particularly shocked. Assuming I'm wearing protective gear and it's not a super dramatic crash, it's just a mild inconvenience. The damage is usually either non-existent or easy to overlook, and if it's not, it's usually easy and cheap to fix, for example a bent clutch lever. Having to replace fairings after each crash is such a hassle.

my rule when i ride is if your going a speed that you wouldnt feel comfortable catching air dont go that speed is. for me that speed is around 130mph

Glad your alright man,my crash happened due to a manufacturing defect causing full mechanical failure was going pretty fast 107mph my track pants hoodie and shirt were all destroyed my jordans poped right off the injuries were bad the bike landed on me

I felt guilty for a minute cause I didn’t have any singles to throw at ya

day 20 of being in the ICU after i yeeted myself over the handlebars of my duke 390, landed on a car and rolled into the centre lane where a semi truck ran over my chest shattering almost all my ribs, 7 vertebrea and puncturing both my lungs. 3 titanium plates and 4 chest drains later i can almost breath properly and walk for more than a fewc minutes, if it wasnt for my full face helmet and armoured jacket i'd absolutely be dead right now... wear your fucking gear

It’s the dumb little hits that are the most embarrassing. A few weeks ago I had just finished a valve job on my bike when I rolled it to a non-level piece of asphalt in my driveway and it fell over. I picked it back up immediately but I was kicking myself lol.

When I first started riding, it was a group of guys who was teaching me how to ride for real. They told me you’re gonna drop your bike. at first I didn’t believe them I thought they were being negative, two days later at wind up, landing in my neighbors, front yard with my 88 Hurricane spinning and I’m sliding past it. That certainly wasn’t the end of my riding career.

I know how awful that feeling is, but I’m glad you’re alright. Could have been a lot worse!

First off: I'm glad you're ok! 2:40 "If you crash, you're a bad rider". I've never heard anyone say that. Most motorcycle crashes are caused by a mistake on the rider's part, though. No matter what you're good at - be it riding, singing, knitting or whatever - anyone can make mistakes. (although I should add that making a mistake when you're singing or knitting is not very dangerous most of the time.)
