Reminds me of Hobbs and Shaw, I had a lady somewhere in the theatre laughing every 2mins. Someone got shot, laughs, serious moment, laughs, not everything is meant to be comedy, in fact, it's better when comedy is only rarely used to break the tension for the audience.

They think every IP has a built in audience that's slightly similiar to another movie that was popular. So like after Barbie made a bunch of money a bunch of execs sat around being like "Well, Polly Pocket will *also* make a billion dollars!"

It's an unfortunate truth that most entertainment products must play to the gallery. I get it; when you're spending hundreds of millions on something, you can't afford not to market towards the largest possible audience, but it's still sad

Test audiences don't pay to see movies, so I've never understood why their opinion matters. The most fun I've had in a theater is when people react to the unexpected. The best was probably "The Departed".

I don’t like obviously test audienced movies either. I legitimately prefer audacious trash fires over merely competent, down the center movies. I own the Tom Cruise Mummy on 4k, I saw Cats in theaters multiple times. I understand that you can’t run a company based on a bunch of movies that are likely to fail by not appealing to wide audiences. Why do you think your feelings are more correct than the feelings of a representational cohort of average movie goers?

movies from big studios basically has to be just fastfood for the masses, need to go to the smaller passion projects to find anything new, but those has steadily declined as bigger studios consolidate
