I've done many solo runs and by far, this one was the craziest one yet! Seriously I don't know what else to say about it. Twitch - twitch.tv/Jrose11 Twitter - @TheJrose11 Second Channel - / @thejrose12
I must admit that I haven’t watched any of MDB’s stuff before, but putting aside the pseudo-rivalry that Jrose and MDB seem to be having, he likely has a different target audience. It’s okay to not mesh with certain content creators for whatever reason, but it’s not cool to try to slag those on the other side of the fence for being fans and/or are viewers of that channel, as this is how comment threads derail into toxicity in the first place, creating massive flame wars. The same likely occurs in reverse assuming it isn’t a one way street, and I can appreciate that banter is great fun, but as Jrose has said in a previous episode (Rattata, I believe?), there is a line that needs to be drawn, and it’s up to us to dictate where it is.
So weird to see Giovanni being the thorn in the side. Part of why I love these runs is every Gym Leader/major battle has their time in the sun where they're difficult or super easy.
@@YukeWeiss bruno be like: "Oho! So you're aproaching me! Zapdos: "I can't beat the shit out of you without getting close" Bruno: "Then come as close as you want" *Zapdos being beaten intensifies**
I usually beat him with Thundershock at the time. Yes, thundershock, not thunderbolt. That STAB and double weakness made him into a joke for my Raichu.
"What is the weakest Pokemon that I can beat Bruno with?" would be a cool challenge. You don't have to beat the whole game up to Bruno with the weak Pokemon, just bring a series of weaker and weaker Pokemon to beat Bruno with. I'd bet it can be done with a level 30 Bellsprout.
Lv 1 gastly can beat bruno if it gets somewhat lucky. It can toxic to kill all of bruno's mons and use a combination of double team substitude and rest to survive. Only pokes that can dmg it are the onixes with inaccurate af rock throws, hitmonchan with elemental punches and machamp's fissure. You simply need to be lucky with forst onix and not get stupidly unlucky once set up
Goldeen is going to have an enormous struggle (pun maybe intended) in the early game. It doesn't get any moves other than Peck and Tail Whip until level 19 gives Supersonic. :/
Bro i renember using you in yellow your so good...thanks! Your amazing attack combined with take down, double egde, fire spin and toxic made you a good pokemon, with the ability to even if you leave the field, you could leave something like toxic! Thanks to you,i beated my rival!
I love how even though the voice over is done in post, you do such a fantastic job at making it seem like its your first time watching and honestly your runs are the only that I actually see as opposed to having them in the background! keep up the great work
Gotta say - this palette swapping you do is always so appreciated - you make it easy to rewatch the same game replayed ad nauseam times, this fire one is the best :3
I’m betting Lance’s Gyarados is gonna be a huge wall. Good AI plus hydro pump = pain, and all Flareon will know is body slam and fire blast. Depending on levels it might get outsped too.
Brock would be a little slow, wrap strats, probably postpone Misty to pick up Bodyslam. It's also Slow Leveling, so dunno for sure how it'll place. Weird Fact, Dragonite can't learn Fly in Red and Blue
@@priestesslucy3299 The thing about Dragonite is that if it can overcome the initial hurdle, it could do really well, but yeah it has some major obstacles.
I want to see that eventually. No way it beats mewtwo but it could rank. It’s only attacking move to start is wrap which would make brock near impossible. Good tm selection though.
I think I finally realized the reason Jrose’s videos are interesting is that he commentated the battles as if he has as much information as we do. And when he wins, it doesn’t seem as trivial because we see sometimes tons of losses and he sets it up by showing his strategy and commentates it with genuine excitement when it’s works.
I figured that the sheer lack of ability to deal with Agatha and Lance would cost Flareon. The limited movepool just meant you had to level up a crazy amount at the end to get through.
8:39 funny thing is there is actually a hidden super potion in the room where Giovanni is. It’s hidden on the shelf just above where the Silph Scope gets dropped.
One would think that seeing the same game played over and over would get boring but you make every playthrough a unique experience, each video interesting and you keep the viewer engaged with fantastic narration. Please keep up the great content!
what it actually is is that pokemon cannot become statused by moves matching their type, since body slam is a normal type move it cannot cause paralysis to normal type pokemon. funny enough this means tri-attack which can cause paralysis, burn and freeze is able to burn fire type pokemon and freeze ice type pokemon, but cant trigger these effects on normal type pokemon
@@LiroRaeriyo That's the real reason, but there are exceptions. For example, Thunder Wave can paralyze Electric types even though it's an Electric move (probably because it's a status move).
@@LiroRaeriyo It would have been cool if not for the fact that tri-attack did not have any secondary effect in gen 1. Also, this rule only apply to secondary effect moves (hence why you can use Thunder Wave on electric types for example) with the exception of poison status, that only checks if the opponent is poison type (Basically it means the bug type move twineedle can give the poison status to pure bug types).
I can see Vaporeon doing really well - it starts with water gun, can get body slam before Misty if needed, has a stab Bubblebeam for the “middle” section of the game, and gets Ice Beam in Celadon. And then it gets Acid Armor, which is like a Reflect + Badge Boost. For the Elite4, the set BodySlam/DoubleEdge - Surf - IceBeam - AcidArmor struggles only against Lorelei (but she cannot hit Vaporeon very hard), and against Agatha, where the high base hp will help a lot in mitigating the “lottery” side of it. The only thing missing is a bit more of speed for the critical hit chances.
These videos are amazing. It's fantastic to hear someone playing a game you know and love; still getting enjoyment, and occasional hilarious frustration that we can all relate to. It's very entertaining. You always have a good attitude and are just a wholesome relatable person. You play the same game over and over, but it never feels like a repeat. Watching a Jrose video is like therapy. Many thanks!
What a wild ride! And a nice showing that, despite getting dunked on so much out of the gen I eeveelutions for its terrible move pool, flareon is still a force to be reckoned with, even if it made for a challenging and crazy run!
Starmie. I’m fairly confident starmie could run show. Edit: hear me out Good typing (Psychic/water) Good Speed: 115 Good Special: 100 Starts with stab Water Gun which is 40 power. Can replace with Surf. Thunderbolt you get from surge, the TM for psychic and IceBeam you get half way through. Brock is gonna be breeze, misty will be meh. Surge will be the only tough part, the rest of the game should be Easy With a good offensive attack that’s super effective for probably 90% of the Pokémon you encounter for the rest of the run.
@@ssjbread2803 that’s true, forgot about bubble Beam from Misty. STAB 65 power move hits pretty good. I’d still eventually replace it for surf, only because surf is 95 power. But BubbleBeam will def rock the early game. At level 30 Starmie should be able to 1-shot pikachu & Voltorb with bubble beam. Raichu is level 24, should be a 2 hit kill. Yeah, your right. Starmie should handle it easily.
I like how the series is "How Fast can you Beat", and not just "Can You Beat". If Struggle didn't count as Normal type in Gen 1, then Magikarp could have beaten the game. That shows that any Pokémon that can learn more than just Normal type moves can eventually win. It is a matter of efficiency.
I'm loving the frequent uploads ❤️. Since my favourite RU-vid channel w/ daily uploads went out of business, I haven't had a lot to look forward to in my Subscription feed. It's nice to feel excited about seeing stuff in my subscription feed again 😇. Just like my last favourite channel, you're way underrated and under subbed too :(.
I don’t subscribe to people often, but I’m subbing to you. It’s always great to see someone at least attempt to strategize in these runs rather than just overleveling.
The level of JUBILATION you showed at defeating Lance is so real I love it. It's times like this, with emotions like that, that make me enjoy the longer format of your challenge videos vs those elsewhere on this site.
@@qgame4941 I just remembered that a Pkmn who is underground using Dig takes double dmg from Earthquake in later generations. So even bigger oof for Flareon. Iron Tail is inaccurate as heck and Superpower has an obvious drawback of fricking up Flareon's Atk stat.
My dude these videos are basically getting me through the lockdown at this point. After over 20 years pokemon gen 1 still gives me joy, such an incredible gem.
Jrose I have at this point watched more hours of your content than I have anything on Netflix (other than breaking bad) and that to me and I'm sure many others just goes to show how great of a content creator you are. I'm literally watching a man beat the same game over and over again with one different variable every play through and only one. Your obsession with just knowing all these different possibilities is not only fun for me to watch but ultimately teaches me something new on a per video basis, which is something I don't really gain from just any content creator. Thank you for your efforts.
I coined a few borelei, o-relei, hagatha. I could probably come up with more if I had a think. Should start a thread on this see how creative people can be 😆 And I was naming some Pokémon after 80s singers and called my geodude g.odowd 😆 Boy George's real name.
Something cool that I think is underrated about you and your channel is the tier list you’re building from the experience of making these videos. Once complete it should become a very good reference point for the community.
The moment Big Arms came on, the hype was REAL. I think the reason everyone dissed Flareon is because that 110 Special became its Sp.Def in Gen 2, so it doesn't have nearly as much firepower in later games.
15:48 - so glad to hear someone other than me call Rapidash "Rabadash". Since I was learning how to read when I first played pokemon, I mispronounced so many names. Now I just need to hear someone call Magikarp "Mantikarp" and my life will be complete.
Ive been binging your videos for like 6 weeks and never noticed I'm not subscribed. I feel the need to apologize for not supporting such a great channel with such entertaining content. You, Wolfe, and pokemon challenges I think are the goats
That Lance battle was so inconsistent though... realistically, you’d probably have needed to level up a few more times. It feels unfair to let Flareon get by on so much luck when you demand (at least some) consistency on other Pokémon
I agree, while Agatha requires one shots to be consistent really, Lance is not the case and getting so many crits, misses and everything else that happened in this battle... he could have used that luck to win the lottery instead
I feel like there's no need to do it with something like caterpie either, because it can't hit ghosts in any way, just like magikarp. You're basically soft locked at pokemon tower and you know it'll happen from the very beginning, so what's the point in starting the run?
@@katkot8262 you can technically skip the poke tower with poke doll yes it would not count to how much faster caterpie can beat the game, since the others not used poke doll but is a way to skip softlock beating the elite four is other thing too
Tbh I like the idea of speedrunning the game with a strong Pokémon rather then just trying to beat it with a terrible one. There’s already plenty of people who do the latter regularly, and speedrunning with a strong mon is probably more fun and less stressful.
@@Krazymaddog Well the Brock fight should be even easier and the Gyrados less scary. Water is generally a strong type. But it'll likely have similar problems with Agatha due to lacking speed. And it'll have to rely more on special moves than Flareon.
@@Rork310 I agree with you on brock and gyrados. But squirtle had a lot of problems mid game, especially with kogan, erika, and sabrina, as well as lorelai and Agatha. I dont even think bruno was a one hot sweep, due to weak stats. I'm predicting slightly better performance because I think vaporeon has greater special and speed than squirtle, due to it being evolved.
@@Krazymaddog Well yes but the only stat Squirtle has over Vaporeon is Defence by 5 points. Considering it's massive HP and strong special I don't see them being that big of a deal except for maybe Erika. I do think some time will be lost in the mid game compared to Flareon but I think the end game will be a lot easier. I think Acid Armor is going to be a big help. It's a reliable way of setting up badge boosts and the defence gained plus Vaporeon's natural bulk should make it really resilient.
