Thank you for this video, very interesting. I have three noID Zygos, although Mr McCarthy was kind enough to tell me that one is a Zygo Louisendorf and I am presently enjoying her beautiful blooms. The other two remain a mystery 😊. I have fallen in love with Zygos so all info on them is great to hear.

I like them very much as well, most of the zygo's have beautiful blooms and most are fragrant. My favorite orchid is still the Miltoniopsis but the zygo's are close LOL... Micheal McCarthy is always very helpful! Very helpful for a lot of growers, so nice of hem! Thank you for your comment and I am happy this video is helpful! :D Happy growing!

Wow! Beautiful Zygos, that yellow one is epic! I’m always amazed by the variety of Zygos I see on RU-vidr’s videos. When I started out I thought that if you had one you had them all but that’s no longer the case. Now I just need to find some variety locally. Very good quality video and great care tips thank you for sharing😊🙏. I’m glad I came across your channel. Happy growing 🪴🌸

Thank you so much! And I am happy to find your channel as well! And I love the Zygo's, I hope to find a few more in the future... They can make beautiful root systems once they go! :D

Thank you for sharing this CareCollab video, I basically don't grow in your method, but have tried it. My problem is the rain water I use after a week it smells like bad drains, so I panicked and thought I can't grow this way 😅. I think your setup is the envy of many orchid growers, me for one! You prompted me to check my TDS ( which I do every watering/fertilising), but I'm lazy about the PH. Thankfully, the PH reading came within a parameter of 6.13. Have a good weekend 👍

I am very lucky to have this growing space! ... When I started growing my orchids I never thought I would get my own greenhouse and orchidroom. It is a dream come true! Absolutely :D. I use RO water and luckily it never starts to smell, also not in the reservoirs and that is a sign for me that the water is fresh enough. Because I do not flush them, the smell is also one thing that I keep checking!. Thanks for pointing that out, I should have mention that... It feels like there are so many things to talk about LOL, that I keep forgetting something all the time. That's why I am so happy with the comments! Big thanks :D Happy growing!

Thank you so much! I do not hope it was a bit too long? LOL There is so much to talk about sometimes and I do not want to skip on the care part because of the whole concept of these videos. So I try not to make them to long but I have them rather a bit too long than not having all the imported factors in the video.... Wish you a great day and looking forward to the upcoming care collab! ;)

You covered the scientific end of S-H growing perfect!! Great presentation! Sorry if I missed this, but what is the PH of your tap water and R/O by-pass water? Because 7 is really the highest I've ever seen for R/O water??
@TheOrchidSaGa
@TheOrchidSaGa 3 года назад
Thank you! :D And indeed it is high.. so I just did measure again, I have a reading of 10 ppm for my RO water and a pH level of 6.9. My tap water has a reading of 224 ppm and a pH of 7.8. What are your levels?

@@TheOrchidSaGa I don't have a PH test kit right now. But I grow in organic media so its not too critical!?! and it is what it is....before I got back into this growing big time I watered my few orchids with straight tap for 10 years and have had no problems....I really only monitor my ppm thru an inline TDS meter to monitor when I should change my filters although I haven't hooked it up yet Ooopps :(( I am thinking of putting a D/I filter component tee-ed off the output line so when I flush (and only for a flush!!) I'll use the D/I water which will act as a super magnet to suck off all the salt and chemicals from the media..... www.championlighting.com/hm-digital-trm-1-triple-in-line-tds-monitor.html?category_id=1709

Low light is one of the poor recommendations out there for growing Zygos. You are absolutely correct that they want Oncidium light to a little brighter in order to grow and bloom properly. Those big fat bulbs on Louisendorf are a sign of a healthy plant. I think, when you repot it, you can just snip the roots that have gone through the bottom and it should be fine. If it was a plant with a poor root system, I wouldn't advise it but I think you have plenty enough in the pot to sacrifice a few tips.
@TheOrchidSaGa
@TheOrchidSaGa 3 года назад
I found out the hard way that they needed more light, but luckily in time. The Torzy Blue is really coming back, that one is my first zygo and struggled the most! And I think you are right about the Louisendorf, It should survive the repot if I took a few roottips of, but I really hate to do that... But one day I probably have to do it. Putting this smaller put in a bigger pot, in self watering, is probably not going to work. I am afraid that the wicking effect is gone because of that extra pot.... I hope it can take another year in this pot and then next year I have to come with a plan ... :D Thank you for sharing tips!
