I went from 230lbs in April of 2022 to now 153lbs as of this morning. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m able to finally start being kinder to myself. I didn’t find your channel until recently (a couple months ago I think) but I gotta say I really appreciate your perspective. Take care, thanks for your insights.

@@farhansubi417 Honestly, I made major dietary changes I was eating a lot of fast food) I started doing some cardio on a nearly daily basis. (Walking at first) and have worked my way up to being able to run a couple miles without stopping. (I wasn’t able to do this even when I was younger xD) I generally do ~20 min runs, or 20 min cycles… or even a 20 minute row on a machine. I mix it up so I don’t get bored. I began calorie counting (basically any food tracking app can help with this) And I started doing some mild fasting and that has helped immensely. (Not eating my first meal until ~12-1:00) There are still things I need to work on. I should drink more water than I am, and probably less coffee… I still don’t SEE the weight loss as clearly as other people, (body dysmorphia) but I feel much healthier than I ever have before. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. There are days you’re gonna mess up, way too much, not enough exercise etc. the perfect is the enemy of the good.

My parents were very poor when I was a child. We couldn't afford my favorite foods, like cheese, and seafood ect, which I only ate three or four times a year for the holidays. When I grew up and started making good money, compulsive overeating began, I could afford everything I wanted, but every time I ate, there was a feeling that “I can’t afford this, I need to fill up on my favorite dishes for the future ", "I have to feed this child what he wants, "delicious food will soon be over". It took a long time to understand and realize this, and I am still working with my feelings about food. Thanks for the video, for many people this is incredibly valuable information! Greetings from Ukraine, Kyiv!

I can totally relate. A brooding sense of angst triggers craving in the midst of a fast, sparking irritability. And i probably wasn't even that hungry. It's always something deeper than just food, and we need to be present enough to perceive what that is.
@wanheekim
@wanheekim Год назад
Exactly. It's rarely actual hunger when that happens
@proxima458273
@proxima458273 Год назад
Wanhee, I just recently had a similar thought about hunger that you expressed in this video. I decided to just feel it for awhile. I realized then that there was a ton of fear around my hunger. I was a afraid somehow that I would “run out”, like when your car’s yellow light comes on that you only have 25 mi left to go before you run out of gas. I found myself having an internal conversation where I felt like I was telling my body, “Hey, it’s okay - you aren’t going to run out. I’ll get you food. But let’s wait awhile longer because then what I will eat will taste so good.” I know it sounds crazy, but it worked. The food did taste so good, and some how that waiting and calming myself down helped me not eat more than I should. I stuck to my desired calorie deficit level. All that happened last week, and then I watched this episode! Crazy how you then mentioned similar, reinforcing ideas so close in time to when I had the same kind of experience. This isn’t the first time this has happened either. Maybe that’s why I love watching your videos, because so often you articulate ideas and concepts that make such total sense to me right away. I wish I could shake your hand in person and say thanks!
@wanheekim

Mate, really love your content. Just discovered your channel recently and what you shared resonated a lot with me. I think you made it really relatable, and being of asian backgrounds as well, I can really relate with most (if not all) of the examples you put out. I’ve also been on weight loss journey, dropped from 86 to 72kg in about 8 months. It’s the first time I’ve ever had this much confidence in my health. Before I was always looking for shortcuts. But now I find the sustainable and healthy way to do it. So I can definitely relate 100% to what you’re saying! Keep it up mate

Gotta tell you this was great to watch. When I started training I had very black and white thinking around diet and exercise. It got to the point where I couldn't enjoy Christmas dinner and pudding that year and I would feel so guilty about eating food that I had almost completely cut out that I ended up losing too much weight, and I would try and feel the void of my craving with stuff like strawberries for example. I've gotten better at fixing my relationship with food and drink, it still lingers from time to time but Im glad videos like this exist especially for guys who struggle to talk about stuff like this.

Love your videos, your content! Not enough health influencers talk about why a person's diet is the way it is and seldom mention how to examine their relationship with food and grow and develop from there. I am a "foody" and most of my best social experiences have revolved around great tasting food so I personally can relate to your videos! Everything ties together and achieving the right balance so you can stay on a healthy diet, exercise routine, and how to stay in mentality where one could do it forever and have it be their new norm so to speak is very inspiring for me. Hope to see more from you soon!

Dear Wanhee, I just wanted to say that I really admire your channel. As I'm girl not all of your videos might be directed to this audience but I enjoy watching all of them a lot. Firstly, your content is aesthetically pleasing. The minimalistic vibe is enjoyable and coincides with your personality. Secondly, I guess you are one of a few bloggers who touch upon such deep issues about sport and fitness mentality on youtube. I enjoy a lot listening to your thoughts and ideas about sport, the psychology of sport and your personal attitude to this. I absolutely agree with you that our body and soul connected and sport helps us to adjust this connection. Such view really helps me to stay consistant. Now, sport for me is not only the way to be physically attractive but also a meditative activity which helps me to cope with stress and take care of my body. Thank you for your work!

It’s amazing how hunger is tied to mindset. No bullshit, I got fucked off with my binge eating habit and just sort of turned it off. Obviously I still get the impulse to snaffle something when it’s in reach, but I’m not hungry at breakfast and it’s a lot easier to resist over eating at mealtimes.

Keep the deep content coming, please! You hit home for me with this video. In my journey from fat --> lean, I also quit smoking weed as part of my transformation (Body and identity) and I now see myself as an athlete instead of a weed-smoking-couch-potato. But... I used weed and food to escape from the stress of reality in my teenage years, which I believe is a period of your life where you develop a great part of your future identity. Where you find yourself so to speak. So even though I am very consistent and disciplined, I am still prone to "fall of the wagon" when life hits me with a curve ball and I feel bad about myself. Such as being sick, or being stressed about deadlines. Especially the latter is a problem. I stress. I smoke weed. I eat more than I should (These days it is composed of whole food plants though, but there are still high-calorie, lower satiety, food to be found. like nuts!) and then I stress more and thus start a vicious cycle of self-loathing in this positive feedback loop. Like you wouldn't believe! Last time I gained more than 10kg in less than a week. Right majority of water, but I still had to do months of dieting/cutting, to come back to where I was.

Imagine that craving part of yourself as a sub personality, like it’s it’s own person that you care about. You have to negotiate with this personality and build a relationship with it, you’ll never get rid of it because it is a part of you. Ask it what it wants and then begin a negotiation with it, try and get a deal that works for the both of you, give it what it wants so it can be satisfied and so can you, without feeling guilty. The more you repress it the stronger and more angry that personality grows until it takes over and then the cycle begins. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting change.
