Well done for being brave enough to listen to your audience! You're really good on camera and have just added a ton of value. That, plus the fact that you have an old 911 for us to dribble over is an awesome combination. Watch the views roll in! 😂

Do not assume the oil change place didn't refill with enough oil. Oil level is checked with engine warm and at idle. Most likely the Uncle Ed's refilled until at proper level on dipstick with engine off. That would result in 15 or 16 quarts in it and terrible smoking at startup. I bought an 83 911SC Cabriolet that non porsche person bought and sold me as "Needing rebuild" since it smoked so bad. Nope I drained the oil, refilled with correct amount, new plugs and it purred like a kitten.

I bought my first 1972 911T when I was just 22 yrs old - has MFI , Sun roof , recaro seats, A-1 condition- it was a California car it’s entire life before I got it - I’m now 61 yrs young , and have owned my 911 for 39 yrs !! Still in the garage - still 100% stock !! It’s been incredible watching 911 values over the years …. I absolutely love them !! Congratulations on your find ! It’ll be fun to watch your journey!! Nice! Based on the rust at the base of the windshield, there may very likely be additional rust underneath the mounting points for the front fenders as well as under the package shelf

What a great story and a great find. Good luck with the project. I agree, the cleaner things are the more motivated you are to work on them. Pull the seats and clean outside. Shampoo the carpets, scrub the door panels. Don't worry, I'm they will need another going over. Keep up the neat story. I look forward to more.

Just found this and now subscribed! I have a 1976 2.7S 'desert' find currently undergoing an engine rebuild. It aint cheap but by doing as much as you can and hunting down the best specialist machine shops and going direct you can easily half the cost of a shop rebuild! Look forward to your updates.

The resto is a lot of hard work so I appreciate that effort, but yes as you mentioned take everything apart possible and clean it outside both for the restoration process and airing and drying process. But it's a labour of love with a vehicle like this 👍.

Wow, living our dream!!!!

I used to have this year, model and color. My interior was dark brown. I can’t wait to see how this rebuild goes.

My first car was nearly identical to this one. That includes the issues and such lol. 16 yrs old I thought I’d be able to restore it myself with the help of my dad and brother. Got it running and drove it 2 or 3 times before it was parked inside a 4 bay garage at my grannies home to start the process. I got pretty far along tearing it down, finding all the repairs done to her over the years, the multiple layers of paint that had accumulated from an untold number of previous owners. The car really didn’t have any rust issues…. That is until I got the windows out and saw the frames front and rear lol. Got her stripped down to the metal, did tons of my own body work and everything. Life slowly got in the way of my dream car. Graduated high school in late May and joined the military for adventure and to pay for college. Little did I know the level of “adventure” I’d end up experiencing. See, the thing is, I graduated in May of 2001. Shipped to train in late June all hyped up because I was going to be a warrior like my ancestors, an infantryman. Needless to say that a morning in September would change everything. I spent the next 10 years of my life fighting for seemingly no reason but staying there because I had men that counted on me to be strong and get them back home to their loved ones. Dad calls me one day in 2003 and says someone offered to buy my car for 2500$, the exact amount I paid for it in it 1999. I thought I’d never make it home to see it restored anyway, “go ahead and sell it dad, give that money to my little brother for his first car fund.” Seeing this car get getting brought back to life really makes me happy, at least once a week I think about mine and how my entire world would be different if I had just stayed home to finish it.

Definitely would like to see more on the mercury. And looking forward seeing progress on the 911. There is a guy on you tube that is just completing a 70s 911. His channel is budget builds. I am sure he would be helpful to you.
