sure would be nice if theyd invent some kind of rectangular device that could cut tang holes for guards and handles with one pass instead of the drilling, filing and test-fitting over and over.

Another phenomenal lesson friend! Darn I wish you had apprentices and I lived close and my family was completely on their own and so on and so on and so on... I'm thinking you can do the bedding process on any handle style to improve the final fit?

Hey Brady, thanks for the encouragement, I do hope to do some classes in the future possibly three students at a time. For your question, I think it works great with just about any take down style handle. Its normally not necessary for a handle that will permanently get epoxied but occasionally i like to set even that type of handle in epoxy so i can shape the handle separately from the blade and then epoxy and pin it all together at the end.

Hello, FYI use female Tusk it has a way smaller core then male's tusk!

Where do you get it from?

Kyle, I have seen the Renaissance Wax used for preventing epoxy sticking to full tang knives when epoxy’ing up the scales...do you think it would work as well as the Vaseline? Probably not as cost effective though 😝 only benefit I can see to the wax would be you could probably control the thickness better than globs of Vaseline, and it might get an even tighter fit.

Hey Griffiths, I'm happy with the amount of Vaseline I get in there sometimes the handle fits so tight that I have to sand the tang down so I'm happy with the Vaseline currently. I bet renaissance wax would works pretty good too. Thanks for the feedback and for watching.

Now I know this is walrus ivory... But I was wondering if you have done any mammoth tooth... I've heard mammoth ivory is easier to work with than tooth... Would I need diamond drill bits for tooth? And do you know how brittle it is? I don't want to ruin the material due to negligence or ignorance... Love your videos BTW... Hoping to join the knife maker plus next time it comes around, I always see it too late and kick myself for it lol

Got me wondering about the fossilized ivory. Is it actually fossilized to the consistency of stone?

Just watching you mill on that made me sweat. Do you ever get nervous cutting on expensive materials like that?

Oh yeah, every part of knife making is a wait and reveal moment.

While elephant ivory handles can be amazingly beautiful, I think the core of walrus ivory is the most spectacular visual element of the material. So it's seems a shame that it's hollowed out and hidden
