Great question. I actually do use both sides more often now. This video was among my first and I was still not terribly experienced.

The Clean Shaver it's all good. I find that I do the same thing sometimes out of force of habit from using a cartridge. Keep up the great work.

I generally don't bother flipping the blade. I use all the sides pretty evenly. As far as when the blade gets tossed, it totally depends on the brand. Some are good for upwards of 4 shaves, whereas others I'll toss after 2. You eventually develop a feel for it. Thanks for watching!

+723BigJB Omega is a great place to start. It depends on what kind of brush you're looking for. A good synthetic can be had for about $30-$40. You can also only spend $20 and find a decent badger.

Over time, I've become comfortable with long strokes. Taking short strokes can tend to add tension.

Ooh, good question. I have lots of artisans that I really enjoy using. I'd say my top 3 right now are Soap Commander, Catie's Bubbles and Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements.

For your first time, go slowly. If you ever get uncomfortable with what you're doing, stop immediately and finish up with a cartridge razor. Then try again in a day or two. Trim it down with clippers as short as you can. Most standard razors will suit you just fine. I'd recommend a Edwin Jagger DE89 or Muhle R89 (essentially the same razor). I feel a standard metal one is going to be a better experience than a cheap plastic one since the weight will feel much different. The Clean Shaver, thanks for the advice. Bought my Edwin online, should arrive tomorrow along with a badger brush and some proraso sandalwood soap from a local supplier. Will post a pic when it's done.

After reading a few razor reviews I went with an Astra stainless blade which was really forgiving. The piece of advice you gave which really made all the difference was letting the weight of the razor dictate the pressure. Worked like a charm.

Maybe I'm underestimating. I'm going to have to time myself now. Haha.
