I can’t believe I am actually going to say what I am going to say but I have to give my honest opinion no matter what. See I try to be as direct and sincere in what I say here and question everything that might be relevant and this game made me work for it. I am a massive Starship Troopers fan and have been waiting for 20 years for a good game that would allow me to feel as one of the boys fighting the “BUG MENACE”. Since Starship Troopers in 2005 that we needed a good release in the ip. Terran Command is ok but WE want to be down there in the fight! We want to be face to face with the bugs, have those creepy ultra aggressive bastards inches away from the barrels of our guns, as a team, pushing them back! Struggling to hold on to an Outpost somewhere as they come again and again and again.
The footage is a round I was in yesterday and spoiler, you will want to see the ending. It 's insane how it turned out.
Now, Off World Industries, or OWI, are the makers of Squad, a game I absolutely love and have played since early access over 6 years ago. It’s a brilliant 50 vs 50 military shooter game with emphasis on teamwork, communication and cooperation to take your team to the win. And to be honest, when I saw the 2 put together, Starship Troopers and OWI, I was a bit excited.
So let’s go over Starship Troopers: Extermination, that OWI is making and remember it just came out into Steam's Early Access.
The end of this video is a round I was in yesterday and the result was one the most epic, cinematic, immersive moments of my gaming life. Thanks OWI for bringing this game to us, and I hope it will only get better in the future.

That perk and the extra 50% ammo per mag are amazing both for tank with the lmg and the support with the GL. It changed my life in the support class xD. Having 9 grenades per mag to poop at the bugs in the horde is a dream.

The plating that halves melee damage is busted on Bastion too. Makes extractions a walk in the park.

Love it so far. Great background within the SST universe, good/satisfying gunplay, simplified interaction and layout. I do hope to see more maps, modes and more depth on missions (seek the 🧠 inside a tunnel etc). Also, communications and team commands could be clearer. It's hard to know who is talking, where people are, who is your team, who's the leader, and what are they planning? Gunplay could improve with more effective primaries, but half the weapons are still in development so it remains to be seen.

I put some hours into it, I think the biggest problem that needs to be fixed is that being in a squad doesn't mean anything. I'm rarely with my squad, sure im around other troopers, but as far as any benefit to being with my squad specifically-I can't see any benefit or detriment to being away from the squad. As long as you're around other troopers when the bugs hit, you'll be fine. I hope there are more obvious benefits to being with your 4 man squad. If there is going to be squads, there should be squad mechanics, otherwise why bother?

I think that part need to be fleshed out. As far as I can tell, when you get a side objective, specially in the longer, gas required, game mode, you can just go "hey demon squad let's go get that patrol" or the extra resources, whatever. But with coms and the different objectives, little teams form outside the squads thing like it did in this round but needs incentive you are right there. I would personally like 20-30 seconds to talk to the squad first and team to divide tasks early on and specify squads for each task like in their game squad but that would be a little stopper to getting early instantly into action every time.

I think they should implement a staging time of 1 minute like in Squad in order to get organised. It could be spent while in transit which would make it really cool as well as useful. Basically if they implement Squad mechanics to the game it will be an easy win. (Commander, SL chat etc.)

Excited to see how they develop the games. IMO they need to make classes more unique at loadout/perks and when they get more weapon options. Should have given heavy the grenade launcher instead of a different shaped rifle.

It's there, there is a lot of stuff locked behind the in development tag. In every item, utilities, perks, weapons. At this point all we should judge is the base of the game and that is rock solid. The content will come. I know, I went through +5 years of the development of squad by OWI. It will take time but I feel it's in good hands.

I appreciate how well it runs on my aging device but it did insult me by initially loading all settings at minimum quality and all sounds at max volume. It hits my nostalgia, and unlike other franchise titles like Aliens, I'm genuinely happy with the quality of this EA release. Of course, this all evaporates if they don't bother to refine it right. Like if the tie-in movie comes out and flops, so they pull the plug. Tactically, I appreciate just how valuable my positioning is at all times. You never know when 12 bugs are right around the corner. I don't care for the jetpack, I think its cumbersome and weak, but I appreciate the ammo utility in combination with a jump jet immensely. Needlers are really the only threat to a well placed Assault troop once they get backup mags and ammo fab.

Agree except for the jet pack. It's very well balanced. If you jump and use utility you get extra height and can get on top of most buildings cliffs, buts it's not too overpowered, I don't feel it under powered as well, cause again most buildings are accessible with one jet jump. Considering owi and their history, I would expect them to stick with it and finish it. Maybe even with the war map do some interesting long therm warfare stuff.

@@TheOnlySillySocks I think I simply have a preference for more lateral movement. I remember scenes in the book where it's like they are making great horizontal leaps. Obviously its not the movie universe, but I would enjoy being able to do more than hope for vertical escape when surrounded or make some jumps that would better suited for a small burst instead of the full rip everytime. However, full rip makes for good ragdolls so that's a toughie.

Can’t stress the jump before you boost advice above enough. Get to level 11 with halo battle rifle and surplus ammo find a spot and start popping off the special bugs.

Thank you for this review. All the best with the channel. I am SO stoked ever since the first time I set my eyes on the trailer. So I have some questions. (1) I've heard there is friendly fire. Is it true? (2) When you mentioned unlockables, did you mean you have to pay? (3) Can you kick other players if you are the host of that match? Or is it open to everyone? Thank you again.

Thanks mate. Ok so 1 yes but it is light damage, it takes some effort to actually teamkill. 2 i mean as you level up you unlock diferent guns, grenades, utilities and perks. no payment required. 3 its their own servers, you can mute people, or honestly is there is some troll or really toxic player, just leave and go again. is meant for quick play, so really wont take you a minute to get into the next match. not sure about kicking players, i just leave if it gets too stupid.

I actually think the rocket launcher and grenade launcher are overpowered. I’ve found it even on hard difficulty somewhat easy to win

Beyond the wire was a full releas and had less then 300 players concurrent when it happened. This is in development and so far so good.

I am NOT a fan of the movie...at all...but I do enjoy this game A LOT. It's very close to something an indie studio I used to work with came up with a while back, but that was more like players directing the aliens vs the marines on the other side, nothing to do with the ST universe. This plays a lot like what we envisioned and even in it's early release state, is both fun and challenging. There's a TON of room to grow with this framework. The only downside is that it's going to give the fucking awful Verhoeven POS more legs :)

Yes but in a humouristic way. not to glory service but to point out what he thought was the bad/funny bits of imperialism and military service. that's the brilliant bit. it's the source material but taken to the "extreme". and that's what appeals to the fans, the banter, the jokes and the gore. it may not be for you but the way he made it, following the source material but making it extreme, even the banter between the troopers is relatable. It all makes sense in a way even if it makes no sense on the outside.

@@TheOnlySillySocks "Following the source material" should never be used for this movie. It wasn't even really an adaptation. They took a script from a completely different universe and slapped on the trappings of a known/beloved IP. There are snippets of the movie that I enjoy on their own merit, but as a mil-scifi, again on its own merit, it's pretty bad overall. They could have gone with the original title and it would still have all the things you appear to have enjoyed about it. Maybe someday someone will make a truth to the source material adaptation where the armor is front and center, but that's almost passed now.

Spoiler alert, it's not good. It's extremely repetitive, it has hardly any content, one map, two gamemodes, 5 different enemies, 3 class that has 2 guns in common and 1 extra gun (2 for support apparently), same perks for every class, one skill per class and some grenades. The only good thing in this game is how it appeals to nostalgia and a great title... But gameplay wise it's garbage, also ping.

Actually yes 1 map for now, but it's massive, 3 game modes, but I guess you quit too early too tell, it's starship troopers, the 2 guns in common they all have are the infantry rifles. It's like saying all the stormtroopers have blasters. XD pick a better server to play on if you have high ping, go to settings, gameplay and pick a better server, not all same perks for every class, and utilities. Plus, some classes need different things. Also, over 90% positive reviews on steam by those that played it. And one last thing. It's early access... It's in development... For 4 days now... It's not finished xD

This is extremly repetitive and low content and that's an undeniabling fact, now if you're a massive fan of the movie or book you will appreciate the game regardless. Basically pick a class out of 3 very similar stuff, build refineries, then your base, then survive, then evac. Boom that's the game, love it. It's just boring af people enjoy it because it's starship trooper.

Never had any ping problems at all. And of course there aren't many guns and perks yet it's early access, and for early access it's better than the grand majority of crap found in early access anymore. It even runs better than most finished triple A games as of the last year and a half

Lool it just arrived in early access. Someone never played an early access game before. It's still in development, not beta or pre release. The base game is great, runs great and all it needs is content and balancing. The game is there. But I guess early access games aren't for everyone. Squad was in development for +5 years and is one of the best out there for its genre. And this one? For starter feels great. Too bad for you, great for the 93% positive steam reviews and me that will get to enjoy its development.
