Today’s feature in 2010 was neck and neck with Kyrie Irving as high school’s #1 point guard. Some recruiting sites like Rivals even had him #1 overall. That was more than a decade ago, when a number of NBA teams were still in search of their franchise point guard. The market was high for what Josh Selby had at the time. Which was speed, quickness, size, athleticism, shooting, and big named ammeter status that’s underrated in how far that alone can take you. Selby also had opportunity. As a top 2 point guard leaving high school, you can choose whatever school you want. One that’s already or can be tailor made for your game to help you get to the next level as soon as possible. At Kansas, a controversy arose behind Selby’s family friend, whom the NCAA investigated and found gave improper benefits to Selby and suspended him for 9 games and ordered him to pay almost $5,000 of improper funs to charity. By the time Selby hit the floor, his team was already half way into winning what would be 18 games straight. A very good team with 5 future NBA players not including Selby. So, he struggled establishing himself as the guy everyone’s waiting to see in the NBA and thought to be next up. The controversy along with never doing what it required at Kansas in his lone, disappointing season, caused him to fall big time in the 2011 NBA Draft to the 49th pick. What Happened?
