Great video. It’s good to know that the South Koreans don’t fear the north. And it appears that South Koreans know very little about America, just as most Americans have no idea what it is like in either North or South Korea. Thanks for showing us the other side.

Will PRC South Koreans should not fear NK but I don't think it would hurt to be slightly more cautious than usual, given the US is somewhat unpredictable now and NK has ICBMs (which makes the problem worldwide, not just in the East). Those two things are two very new--very dangerous--variables that were not an issue in the past few decades. It is rare I'd say to keep the status quo with such significant new variables. There will likely be a new equilibrium that will need to be reached.

Baepsae, you are wrong here. They were not talking about accidents. Even if it's about accidents, which kind of? Car accidents can be prevented by politics, other countries can prove this. We humans mainly act according to patterns, it's a politician's job to figure out those patterns to prevent damages.

That was a little extreme lol. Not everyone will just die in either country. That's not accurate at all lol. So the reasoning doesn't work. Also to use it as a general way you live your life by is silly.. it's like saying "I might as well smoke loads of crack every day because I'm going to die anyway".. yea but you will often die a lot sooner.. and have a far lower quality of life.. it's not just about what happens at the end.. it's the journey too.

I went to South Korea last year. Loved it. When I was on my way back to NY I saw all the US and UK newspapers with front page news about North Korea. When I got home people was shocked to hear that North Korea wasn't news worthy. I told them South Korea is about as scared of North Korea as New York is of New Jersey. LOL.

Don't get me wrong it is news worthy. But when I was in South Korea it was hardly mentioned on the news stations and it was not a front page story. That was the shock to the people I talked to over here. Even before Trump became President North Korea was in the news in the US talking about the starvation of it's citizens, tortures and the development of weapons. That's all I'm saying.

@rayage777
@rayage777 6 лет назад
I get that this is like an everyday thing for South Koreans, but the one girl said NK would attack the US first doesn't make sense to me. I would think that Kim Jong-Un would want the land grab instead of firing a missile that could potentially be shot down, but shooting that missile at South Korea might not get shot down. I would think that NK would go after SK and Japan first, because they have a better chance that China will side with them. Also, the bigger problem I see is that there are two crazy non-thinkers at the button of the nukes, so why wouldn't SK be worried about that? They should also be worried that Trump doesn't know we are supposed to be allies. He doesn't even know that Puerto Rico is part of America.
@SingaporeanInKorea
@SingaporeanInKorea 6 лет назад
I personally don't care what jong-un does or how he does it. I don't even care to guess. I only know that if and when shit hits the fence and I am still standing, I will be here to defend what I love. What do you gain with worry? What do you gain with trying to be a political analyst? Nothing but losing your present NOW... I personally would not lose a minute of my precious NOW to crunch any of those news or what. :)
@SingaporeanInKorea
@SingaporeanInKorea 6 лет назад
either way it doesn't matter, people would die and thats sad enough.
@MrGlostuber
@MrGlostuber 6 лет назад
Ray Age Although I understand your land grab method, hitting USA first should likely be their aim as they have the more powerful arsenal. If South Korea gets hit first, America would be alerted beforehand therefore having some spare time to retaliate or at least be prepared. Trump has more firepower than Kim but his temper is just as dangerous as Kim's. But I'm not going to sit here and worry.
@negativeindustrial
@negativeindustrial 6 лет назад
Aizen Kazama That would make sense if North Korea had even a chance of knocking the US out of any war on the Korean Peninsula with the few missiles he has. The fact is, it is doubtful that even Russia or China, with their infinitely larger and more powerful arsenals, could deliver a decisive blow to the North American continent through the US defense umbrella. NK has zero chance. The chances of even landing one ICBM into one target on the NA continent is very very low. The US has very powerful and very accurate missile defense systems and NK’s primitive missile technology has almost no chance of making it that very long distance and getting through. Why do you think they threatened Guam? As a protected American territory in the Far East Pacific it is the only target Kim Jong Un has even a hope of actually striking although he would be a fool to even try. The people of Guam are citizens of the United States and as such are under the protection of the American military. That being said, with today’s technology Guam holds only a tiny fraction of the military significance it once held. So if it were to be wiped out, NK, like Japan found out in WWII, would awaken the sleeping giant of the US military and before they could make much progress southward on the Korean Peninsula they would be swiftly destroyed by the US and their allies. All he would be doing is handing the US the justification it needs in the eyes of the world to utterly eradicate the North Korean menace once and for all. This isn’t the 1950’s - there would be no chance for a stalemate unless China decided to reverse it’s stance on the issue.

Lol I live in Israel and because of bullshit media I occasionally have to deal with people in chats that think either that we're living in terror getting stabbed in masses, or that we drink Palestinian's blood and slaughter millions of them every day (depends on which crappy media outlet they watch). The problem is that the news cares more about attracting people with dramatic headlines (and keeping the masses intrested with relatable one dimentional reports ) than properly explaining the situation and making an in depth report. It's more like a reality show than an actual report of reality and it's making people's opinions twisted and disconnected from reality. I'm probably a victim of this too, because almost all of the information I know about the events taking place in the world has to have gone through someone that had intrests/biases.

Ofer Mossinson Interesting. Do Israeli share places like work places, public transportation, malls and parks with Palestinians normally? If so, are there interactions among Israeli and Palestinians? How is this interaction?
@ofermossinson2910
@ofermossinson2910 6 лет назад
Definetly. Most interactions are pretty friendly/positgive, especially if you consider the "Israeli-Arabs" (Arabs with Israeli citizenship ) Palestinians. It is true that in times of high tention (the stabbings last year for example) many Israelis would prefer to keep a distance from Palestinians fearing their safety, and they might do things like change a seat in public transportation for example. Unfortunately at those times nationalist/discriminatory organisations which harass Arabs gain momentum (such as LEHAVA which I think was outlawd but I'm not sure). I wouldn't say Israeli people are more or less racist than other groups around the world, but you often hear about the West Bank and Gaza because they're a huge unresolved mess created by the stupidity and short-sightedness of both sides. I hope sometime in my lifetime I'll be able to see the day when everyone understands this conflict is pointless and just stops fighting.
@MusiCaninesTheMusicalDogs
@MusiCaninesTheMusicalDogs 6 лет назад
Ofer Mossinson Thank you for your clarification. As a Brazilian it's very hard to understand what's going on there. Sometimes it looks like there's a fence separating Israelis from Palestinians, and the removal of it would result in absolute carnage!

John Lewis things changed. Current Korean govt is basically far left socialists - all have anti American records , and 90 % of Koreans do not have sense of rule of laws , and 90% of them can accept slavery of china . Us Korean FTA is now in the process of renegotiation including nullification of the deal. Trump is president of America . And republicans are patriots and realistic. Not a chance for him to get along with those socialist, anti American, and north appeaser . Not a chance. Alliance is just a paper at the moment. Koreans and Americans are not on the same page. There is a big chance South Korea would even turn adversary to America within a year or so if Current pro North vietkongs govt did continue to resist against trump

Same case with westerners knows only a few about China. Yeah there are bad parts of China but for sure it's not how it was spread by western medias at all. People tend to be scared of stuffs which is too far& unfamiliar with. Just like the mass shooting happens in LV, also created massive discussions of how unsafe US is and how having guns sounds inappropriate. But each country has their suitable policies and way of governence, so using the usual measurement which fits the current society you're in doesn't really fit the other country with different culture background.
@jellyrolly
@jellyrolly 6 лет назад
Western media also never examines WHY China is like that. Why are the Chinese so obsessed with money, some ask. Well, it makes perfect sense because it is the ONLY thing that will guarantee some degree of safety. Why do Chinese people eat weird things? Well, why do 'weird' things need to be in exclusively Western standards?
@owenzou2673
@owenzou2673 6 лет назад
exactly. Well, creating a good image of China certainly won't help their governance, that will bring doubts of their current system and make things worse. Plus, English is actually a much easier language to learn and use, and western world definitely took advantage from it, and using English to have our conversation is just one of the perfect examples.

Problem is, you interviewed Americans, a civilisation that only know their continent. But when you go beyond their borders their knowledge stops there. When you see jimmy kemmel (sorry I'm French I don't remember the exact spelling) interviews in the streets where he asks Americans where Germany is and they don't even know ... how do you expect any other responses about Korea in general ....

To be fair, how easy do you think it is to be even knowledgeable of the 50 states within the U.S? Americans varied vastly depending on where you are. Blanket statements like above has no merits in an argument.

KALISSU I don’t know which is more ignorant - the few idiots they find that don’t know where Germany is or the fools overseas who actually believe that is normal for educated Americans. You DO realize they interview dozens of people and pick only the funniest responses that match their narrative, don’t you? You can’t actually think that University educated people are that unaware or the world they live in? Maybe you do believe that. If so, that’s sad. Because that is exactly what they wanted you to believe and you fell for it perfectly.

As a European I had the same opinion on this matter as South Koreans do in the video. I never thought Americans (or the average American, don't mean to generalize) believes South Korea should be afraid of NK... I find this really interesting. If anything SUA has more chances to be attacked than SK. It's just a matter of politics and logical strategies. I highly enjoyed this video.

Well, the North has had multiple missiles prepped for launch for about a week now. Suspicion is that they might involve an atmospheric test, which would demonstrate delivery capability, and may very well prompt the U.S. to conduct a massive air operation against the program + artillery, and maybe the leadership.

Just a funny thing to think about. That girl who said there is nothing we could do to stop North Korea's attack is completely right. Say North Korea nuked Seoul, (which they wouldn't, they don't need to), you'd actually have a more decent chance of surviving through missile protection systems, or just not being so close to the blast that you don't just die immediately. You could get out eventually. The most likely thing that would happen, which while living in Seoul while it doesn't bother me day to day, gets me once in a blue moon, is the fact that North Korea could literally flatten the entirety of Seoul using artillery and just normal missiles. That is how much fire power they have pointed at Seoul. So much, travelling so fast that there would be no way for defense systems to block it, and you'd almost have no time to escape.

As a Korean lived for 20 years in divided country, I am just so accustomed to North Korean's provocation. When Kim-Jungeun warn about firing missiles to Seoul, most Koreans just think like " Uh, he is hungry again" . All Koren males are trained to use guns and there are US forces in Korea. Kim can never make war happen.

I was in Seoul once in the 1990s and they had an air raid drill in the middle of the afternoon, so I would say they take the threat somewhat seriously, no? Of course they are used to it. It's a warm & friendly place, less formal than Japan.

In America, talking to a couple of South Korean friends. They say that they don't pay attention to N.Korea at all. They are actually sort of clueless about the whole situation because it's so commonplace for them that they've stopped caring. They're actually more worried about Trump and all that he is doing to keep immigration (legal and illegal) into America down. They have family in Seoul, but are more worried about their job/Visa status over here.

If the two Koreas don’t reunify soon (I mean like in a few decades) their language is going to differ so much and their culture will differ more than now. The North Korea is so culturally different now, their country is more like Old Korea back in the 1700s-1800s.

In my opinion, media just needs to create fuss, that's what they live for (literally, that's what pays their bills). If there's nothing to talk about, they don't have a job, and I feel like especially in the western world all the major or main media just walk the extra mile to get people intrested. I don't think all the people that they interviewed the day they filmed that video said the same crap as it was shown in the video, but they edited so it would look like we're all so concerned. And also, if people really think that they're really ignorant, and I have no doubt about it since most people might not even know where korea is in a world's map. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be concerned but if you're gonna be concerned, at least investigate things, look at the whole picture not only the frame that media is showing you and making you believe. And also, if you're really concerned, try and do something about it, don't just go around saying that you are scared and then go hide on a corner, that's not going to make things better.

I love this series Asian Boss! Fascinating. But if S Koreans are so blasé about the North -- why did we have an air raid drill when I was there? It was taken very seriously and I had no warning from the hotel at all, so I was thinking they didn't schedule them -- the whole point was to take people by surprise. I might be wrong about that but suddenly there are sirens all over town and everyone is running....Why?

Important video. This is what I expected regarding North Korea. I spent some time in a country the news showed as being conflict ridden. Life there was safer than most western countries; the people were all hospitable and lovely. The popular news programs go looking for problems to amplify. They will take a story about something universally accepted by experts, then go talk to a private individual who believes differently, and present their arguments equally. The issue with Trump I had not considered and shows what a destructive influence he is having even on those he is supposedly trying to help protect.
