Hi Sir Caco. I definitely agree with your points on having EVs here in the Philippines. Infrastructure definitely needs to be there, and with fast charging stations for cars such as the Hyundai Kona EV, and Ioniq EV (both can be ordered through Hyundai PH as an indent order) since the domestic socket cannot produce enough power to quickly charge its batteries. Having these fast charging stations would also pave the way for Tesla to consider coming into our market, and to even include their superchargers. EVs are definitely my favorite. Environmentally-friendly, cheap to run, and has instant power delivery the moment you step on the accelerator. 😊

Hi Caco. Pardon my lengthy question here but I’d really love to hear what you have to say with my inquiry. Before that, let me tell you what’s making me think hard in making a decision on what car to get. I currently have a compact car that is about 760kg, has 56 hp @5500 rpm and 75 nm @4000 rpm torque. I’m planning to upgrade very soon and I’ve been pondering for quite a while between a reasonably priced 3 row MPV and a 5 seater cross over. The MPV weighs 1,275 kg, performs at 103 hp @6000 rpm and 141nm @4000 rpm. On the flip side, the cross over weighs at 1,337 kg and performs at 147 hp @6200 rpm and 179 nm of torque. For sure, the cross over really has an advantage when it comes to performance. I like it because coming from a low performing vehicle, I’d feel much comfortable and confident when it comes to driving at steeper inclines every now and then. However, this MPV has more seat capacity which allows me to take additional passengers (relatives, in laws, etc.) when going out of town. It’s basically a people mover vehicle. The only thing that’s stopping me and think twice about this mpv is the performance. Considering that it’s a 7 seater vehicle, I’m wondering how much effort it would take to haul such capacity. Let alone its own weight. In short, I’ve been thinking that it might just turn out that I’m getting the same underpowered car in replacement of another. I really wonder if that would be the case since it’s virtually the same with my old car in terms of performance with the weight factored in. The cross over is really nice with its advantage in performance and safety. So, I don’t know if I’m overthinking it. But I don’t want to end up crying over a bottle of spilled milk once I make a decision. Could you help me with your your expertise? Maybe this could help others who have similar situation too. I actually tried designing a jeepney. We had exactly the same points. Everything you said, I initially incorporated all of those in my design, but as it turns out, we already have those around; "e-jeepneys". but it's too bulky for tight secondary roads. they're like busses already -- Then I thought of a lighter version. I had to ditch the electric engine though and went to diesel with the same engine as toyota Hilux. or any high torque engine that is ubiquitous, but ended up looking like a mahindra. I'm an aeronautical engineer by the way.
