Fine artist Eyvind Earle was already a prolific painter before he got to the Walt Disney company in the 1950s where he painted the backgrounds and became the artistic director for Sleeping Beauty. His legacy continues to live past his life, inspiring animators and artists to bring fine art to the world.

I still love his piece Gothic Forest! It always made me think of the art from Sleeping Beauty and made me feel a sense of dark serenity 😁

Love Eyvind’s work! He had such a unique look to his work and it makes sense why. Funnily enough, while watching this I realized I never knew what he looked like though. 🙈

I absolutely love Eyvind’s style. My mother had some of those Christmas cards. They are very modernistic! I think Sleeping Beauty is the most beautiful of the princess movies. His work elevated the look of that movie. It’s a shame the animation team caused him to leave. I wonder how much better some of the next Disney films would have looked with his designs.

At least he got to see his influence carry over to Disneyland Paris. He had a fantastic life, so full. Inspirational.

Thanks for the video. I wouldn't credit his father for Eyvind's hard work. Yes, maybe he encouraged Eyvind to work every day but, apparently, he was abusive.

He was 100% abusive, but regardless of the good or bad in our lives, those things shape who we are and how we approach life. Examining Eyvind's life and work, his father drilled into him his work ethic. He worked hard every day for a long time because that's what he had learned as a child.

@@ModernMouse it might as well have gone the other direction and lead Eyvind to never touch a brush again. There must have been an inner drive that outlived the abuse

What would his father have said or done if he (Eyvind) hadn’t been naturally talented? I love Eyvind’s style. Am anxious to see how the new dvc tower being built at Disneyland comes out. I wonder if he knew it was even proposed or in the works?
