How to Boost Autophagy without Fasting | What is Autophagy | Autophagy Foods- Thomas DeLauer…
Foods that Promote Autophagy:
AMPK gets triggered when your body needs to generate energy in a fuel deprived state - Fasting and glycogen depletion put you into a caloric deficit, which then ramps up your body’s adaptation mechanisms - AMPK triggers autophagy
Green Tea (EGCG):
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a major polyphenol in green tea that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-steatotic effects on the liver. A study in the journal PLoS One found that EGCG increases hepatic autophagy by promoting the formation of autophagosomes and by stimulating autophagic flux in hepatic cells. EGCG increases phosphorylation of AMPK, one of the major regulators of autophagy. Also observed that lipid droplet within autophagosomes and autolysosomes and increased lipid clearance by EGCG - all that means is that EGCG promotes lipid metabolism by increasing autophagy.
Additional Study:
A study in the journal Biomedical and Environmental Sciences found that the polyphenols in green tea alleviate autophagy inhibition induced by high glucose, which shows the protective effects of green tea against hyperglycemia.
Ginger:
This study, published in The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, looked to investigate the anticancer effect of 6-shogaol (an active constituent of ginger) in human non-small cell lung cancer (A549) cells. 6-Shogaol inhibited cell proliferation by inducing autophagic cell death, but not, predominantly, apoptosis.
Pretreatment of cells with 3-methyladenine (3-MA), an autophagy inhibitor, suppressed 6-shogaol mediated antiproliferation activity, suggesting that induction of autophagy by 6-shogaol is conducive to cell death
Also found that 6-shogaol inhibited survival signaling through the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway by blocking the activation of AKT and downstream targets, including the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)
Phosphorylation of both of mTOR's downstream targets, p70 ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6 kinase) and 4E-BP1, was also diminished. Simply, 6-Shogaol, the active constituent of ginger, induces autophagy by inhibiting the AKT/mTOR pathway.
Turmeric (Curcumin):
Published in the Journal of Pharmacological Sciences, curcumin induced autophagy in the A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cell line. Moreover, the autophagy inhibitor, 3-MA, partly blocked the inhibitory effect of curcumin on the growth of A549 cells. Curcumin markedly increased the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and acetylCoA carboxylase in A549 cells. Simply put, curcumin induces autophagy via activating the AMPK signaling pathway [autophagy can be activated by curcumin (via the AMPK signaling pathway)]
Reishi:
Study in the journal Nutrition & Cancer found that reishi suppresses proliferation of human colon cancer cells HT-29 and inhibits tumor growth in a xenograft model of colon cancer. We show that GLT induces formation of autophagic vacuoles and upregulates expression of Beclin-1 (1.3-fold increase) and LC-3 (7.3-fold increase) proteins in colon cancer cells. Autophagy is mediated through the inhibition of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) because p38 MAPK inhibitor, SB202190, induces autophagy and expression of Beclin-1 (1.2-fold increase) and LC-3 (7.4-fold increase), and GLT suppresses phosphorylation of p38 MAPK (approximately 60% inhibition) in colon cancer cells.

I cut out soda and most fast food only eating it when I was stranded for work, calorie restriction and started fasting 3 weeks ago. I gained 60lbs when I became a truck driver. I’ve lost 30 of it over the past 2 months or so and I’m finally getting good at fasting intermittently your channel has been a huge help love ya bro!

I have a cup of green tea with ginger, curcumin and reishi every morning. Been doing this for the last 258 years and I feel brand new, man. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help. This has been so good for my health, and I’m 61 and retired USAF. This information should be taught across the board in primary schools as part of health classes. My weight has so far dropped from 232lbs to 218lbs in a little over two weeks and the best part of this is all of the pain and inflammation in my body is completely gone. I’m 6 foot tall and my ideal weight for me it 175 to 180 lbs. my energy level has gone through the roof and I feel like I’m 18 again. I flew for the USAF and the commercial world and have sent this video to a ton of friends who are still working in the industry and trying to maintain their health! Thank Thomas DeLauer!❤️❤️❤️❤️

This video was so fun! I am 37 hours into a 48 hr fast, and as he listed the items, I was making a cup of hot green matcha tea. When he said “ginger”, I added a slice of organic ginger. When he said turmeric, I added a bit of fresh sliced turmeric. I actually have the Reishi mushroom powder too, but I’ll do as he suggested and wait til after my fast. That was cool! Going to enjoy my tea and feel so great boosting my autophagy!

Great info! I "stumbled" across autophagy after creating my own weird "diet". I avoid/limit white potatoes (and other nightshades) as well as corn-based products and dairy. I don't take any pain killers anymore (very rarely for major stuff). I have been taking Turmeric and Ginger root every morning for 2-3 years. I often live/function well on one meal a day (without forcing it). I also like Magtein L-Threonate at night and He Shou Wu, P5P. Temporarily had a 50K a week vitamin D script because I was very low. I feel awesome now compared to 20 or 30 years ago.

What a fantastic source of life-enhancing knowledge you are Thomas. The one and only criticism I have is your speed of delivery - like a fast train hurtling through a station.... Many of us older passengers, eager to get aboard, are obliged to move down the platform many time and catch up with you using time travel i.e. rewinding, rewinding, stopping you in mid-sentence... OK you will surely say, there you are, that's the wonder of RU-vid videos - and it's very true... It's just that you are clearly a genius, and us students get dizzied sometimes. But many thanks all the same.

i'm 60 and about 5 weeks ago hit the highest weight ever for me at 236. Before this, 232 back in 2002. All these years i've struggled to keep it down closer to 220 although for 71.75 inch tall guy I should be below 200. I'm big boned and have a tendency to build muscle fast when so desired, so 205 seems like a good target weight. Hitting 236 hit home. None of my suits fit. Embarrassing. So I immediately started a multi-day water fast while I planned my diet coming off. Learning more about Insulin and Intermittent fasting seemed to be what I needed. It made sense. My plant-based diet in recent years was not working for me and I got hungry often and a strong sweet tooth pushed me into ice cream moments, pizza and other goodies. So understanding insulin made it easy to determine that I had to restrict carbs. I stopped fearing fats and added back meat. And after 3.5 days of my water only fast, I transitioned into a 16-8 IF from 1 to 9. Wow!!! This is week 5. My weigh in this morning is 218! I'm never hungry. I work out every day as of 3 weeks ago and can't get enough of doing so. This never happened before. It's a little drive to the gym and that doesn't bother me at all. My muscles are starting to take shape, I'm lifting good weight, regained some flexibility, and I am running again...with all out sprints like a young guy! While my face gives away my age somewhat (I don't look 60 but around 50 imho), my body is feeling, looking and acting way younger and this energy is just fantastic! I don't know if going from plant-based with lots of cheats (cuz it was hard to do, I never liked veggies) to heavy fats, meat and the occasional leafy green salads is going to cause me some early death or not. But I never thought I'd have another chance at feeling strong and fast and looking better again as the years go by. Quality of life trumps longevity if you ask me.

I bought the cocoa drink and had a cup today after breaking my fast. I fell asleep for an hour. Not the same as “relaxation” but think next time I will have a cup before bed. Also, being on a strict keto diet I drank a cup without reading that each packet has 4grams carbohydrate and 2g of sugar. I haven’t had sugar in anything other than plant form since starting keto, it spiked my sugar numbers. I’m saying this because I love keto and really like your videos but not sure the product is for everyone. Thanks for all the other great info!

As I study more on curcumin, one of the issues comes down to how our body can metabolize it. In fact, we want to flush it out VERY fast, so it's not as effective as we'd like. There are some professional brand supplements that seem to have found ways around it, but for the typical store brand, you're better off with straight tumeric. The tumeric/cinnamon coffee Thomas mentioned a couple of weeks ago is a great way to get the tumeric in. I felt AMAZING for a couple of weeks but decided to take a couple of weeks off from dairy (mixed results, experiment still in progress), but its a solid breakfast treat for those who like their keto coffees.

Thomas DeLauer is intelligent, informative and inspiring. Yet today for some reason hearing him talk about what is taking place in the body made it hard to concentrate on the main subject so I decided to write. The arrangement and organization of the tiny systems that are in place in order for the human body to function as it does remains far beyond the body’s mind to comprehend. Yet our wisdom is a result of these processes. If we could look close enough and see all that is involved as they each perform their tasks, It would border on unbelievable. Even now as we are finally just able to peer in for a glimpse we find the human body is a massive display of microscopic elegance. It seems all that activity in my body is focused on taking care of me. I hope to show my appreciation to it’s design and designer by taking care of it. Anyway. . . Sorry for the rant. Take care everybody!

Thomas, I am from India. In India right from ancient days, Turmeric has been used in each and every kind of Indian food. Thats why Indians have lowest number of Alzeihmer disease and cancer in India. Curcumin and turmeric is not only anti cancer but reduces inflammation and brain health which is again altogether a new domain to be explored. Unfortunately, India is becoming diabetic capital of the world due to intense sweet usage and hence, also renal failure due to the side effects of diabetes medicine.

India's reported life expectancy in 2018 is around 69 years. 5% of Alzheimer's patients developed symptoms before 65 years old. One-quarter of new cancer cases are diagnosed in people aged 65 to 74. A similar pattern is seen for many common cancer types. For example, the median age at diagnosis is 61 years for breast cancer, 68 years for colorectal cancer, 70 years for lung cancer, and 66 years for prostate cancer. (cancer.gov).

You’re off on the definition of Apoptosis, it is Not premature cell death. “Apoptosis is a process that occurs in multicellular when a cell intentionally “decides” to die. ... Apoptosis is referred to as “programmed” cell death because it happens due to biochemical instructions in the cell's DNA; this is opposed to the process of “necrosis,” when a cell dies due to outside trauma or deprivation.”

Hi Thomas! Love your videos! I've been researching the net to get this question answered. From what understand, to achieve autophagy, you can't spike your insulin. Does it mean that if I'm a diabetic injecting insulin while fasting, I can never achieve autophagy? Hope you can answer this for me. Thanks.

Do full body 2-3 x a week non consecutive days picking 2 exercises from each category Heavy for two sessions medium and light only in the middle if doing it 3xs. 3 sets to start with work ur way up to five. Stop the set when ur forms not good and 1 rep b4 you think ur form is going to start breaking down. Set goals 4 example Deadlift to 405 for 5 reps by 2020. Etc etc . And Your good. @@eliasbarrasa7320 You have mentioned 5-6 exercises for each muscle. Is it possible to target different sub-muscles for each muscle with just 2 exercises?
@eliasbarrasa7320
@eliasbarrasa7320 5 лет назад
Bharat MV Yes just pick 2 exercises from each muscle group 1 from heavy 1 from light . Focus on getting stronger For example. For back 3 sets of 6 reps Deadlifts rest 3 Minutes between sets. If your doing Deadlifts you should switch to rack pull on the next workout And switch to shrug on the work out after that. Only Deadlift once a week. 3 sets of 12 reps Barbell rows rest 2 minutes between sets 3 sets of 10 reps pull ups. Rest 1 minute between sets. For biceps 3 sets of 8 reps Ez bar curls. Rest 2 minutes between sets 2 sets of 15 incline curl. Rest 1 minute between sets That could be your pull day. So for chest 3 sets 6 reps Bench rest 3 minutes between sets 3 sets 12 reps Incline bench. Rest 2 minutes between sets. For shoulders 4 sets of 5 reps Standing barbell press. Rest 3 minutes between sets 3 sets of 15 reps lateral raises. Rest 1 minute bt sets For triceps 3 sets 6-8 reps Skull crushers supersetted with close grip press so immediately after completing the skull crushers (b4 putting the weight down) bring the ez bar to you chest and do as many reps as possible (try to get at least 5 reps )close grip press. Rest 3 minutes b/t sets 3 sets of 15 reps cable push downs. Rest 1 minute between sets This can be your push day. Legs 3 sets of 6 reps Barbell Back squat rest 3 minutes between sets 3 sets of 15 reps leg extensionsrest 2 minutes between sets focus on the squeeze don't go heavy this is one of the few exercises that you dont have to worry about going heavy. Just focus on the feeling 3 sets of 15 reps Romanian dead lift here also go light you don't have to go over 225 lbs. Even guys that squat 600 lbs still only do 225 for 15 reps just bc its safer. I would suggest going up by 10 lbs only if you can do 25 reps of the current weight and it feels easy Rest 3 minutes between these too. Leg curl 3 sets 25 reps very light focus on the squeeze here too. Rest 2 minutes here. This is legs day. So u can choose to do all this in one day and do it 2-3x a week or separate it like this. Push Monday Pull Tuesday Legs Wednesday Rest Thursday Push Friday Pull Saturday Legs or Rest day Sunday. Repeat You could also rest every other day if ur doing full body. Do all the exercises above Monday Wednesday Friday. Rest on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays and Sundays. This is what I recommend. 3xs a week full body is what I recommend You can do abs 250 crunches on 2 of your rest days but spread far apart so Tuesday and Saturday do 250 crunches. If you eat right you should get abs in 6 months to a year. If you set goals like 405 for 5 reps deadlift 315 for 6 reps squat 225 for 5 reps bench. And you meet them you should look VERY VERY good in one year. If your young you can do full body two or three times a week and still grow. But if your old or you start lifting heavy Once you get more advanced and your lifting heavy You could combine legs with Push and do. Push and Legs Monday Pull Wednesday Push and Legs Friday Pull next Monday Push and Legs next Wednesday Pull next Friday. Repeat So alternate Push and Legs 2xs a week and Pull once The following week alternate it. Pull 2xs a week and Push and Legs once. Start doing this when you get into your heavier weights. This is currently how I structure my workouts and I look good So keep it up eat right and God bless.
