Let's go catch Giant Summer bass together! Its not hard once you know where to look! Today we're going to show you exactly how the bass position on hot days and what you need to know to catch them. We're going to show you 6 different techniques you can use to run the hot weather pattern and catch bass anywhere in the country this Summer.
Many anglers are afraid to go out in the middle of the day in Summer. The heat gets so intense it can be really uncomfortable but the same scenario that keeps you away makes the bass bite like clockwork. Once you understand how to use shadows to your advantage, you can catch bass everywhere you go.
Matt shows us how you can take the shadow pattern and apply it to shallow bass with a frog, punch rig, and senko. Then he turns around the same day and shows how you it can be done with a jig, a worm, and a deep crankbait. It really is that easy! You have to get out and do some bass fishing before the dog days of Summer come to an end.
Below is a breakdown of the baits, including colors, that Matt used in the video. We've also linked all 6 rods he had rigged on deck.
The baits...
Frog- Jackall Kaera: bit.ly/2Fz6SA3 (Glitter Bluegill)
Punch- Strike King Rage Craw: bit.ly/2uoqsLJ (Junebug)
Senko- Yamamoto 6" Senko: bit.ly/2axAmNS (Green Pumpkin/watermelon Laminate)
Jig- Dirty Jigs 1/2 oz Pitchin' Jig: bit.ly/2amL3of (Go To)
Jig Trailer- Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver: bit.ly/29W3RZW (Green Pumpkin Red Flake)
Worm- NetBait T-Mac 6.5": bit.ly/2jndwj9 (Junebug)
Shaky Head- Dirty Jigs Canterbury 1/4 oz: bit.ly/2aFOs0V
Crankbait- Strike King 6XD: bit.ly/2ery44M (Chartreuse Sexy Shad)
The Rods For Each Bait...
Frog- Shimano Expride 7'3" XH: bit.ly/2nTq9FL
Punch- Shimano Expride 7'11" XH: bit.ly/2nTq9FL
Senko- Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch: bit.ly/2FdE3YY
Jig- Megabass Orochi XX Braillist: bit.ly/2OSVNwH
Worm- G Loomis NRX 852C JWR: bit.ly/2hedqsq
Crank- Shimano Zodias 7'6" MH Glass: bit.ly/2cgmMAe

15 mph is pretty strong depending on how you fish. 12mph winds around a dam with fast moving water is a nightmare. not only casting is a pain but you can't feel bottom without a lot of weight.

I can’t express to you and Tim just how much your channel has helped me at becoming a better bass fisherman. Before this year the biggest bass I had ever caught was 6.4 pounds. This year alone I have caught well over twenty bass over six pounds, with many in the seven and eight pound range, and the biggest being 9.2. This is on a reservoir that I have been fishing for the past ten years. Summertime has quickly become my favorite time to fish. All my fishing buddies quit fishing when June rolled in the heat here in central Georgia. I’m mainly catching them in 12’-18’ of water on either points or ledges with rock. Finding the rock in this depth range is the key for me. I have also been using a new rigging technique that no one else is using. It came to me through my observations of how predators react to prey. Almost every predator on Earth is an ambush hunter and prefers not to chase a meal down. They would rather conserve energy and have an easy meal. Chasing a bait wastes energy, and many times the chase ends up being unproductive. Bass learn this as the grow larger and wiser. I know the lures and rigs available to bass fishermen today work quite well at catching bass, but I have never experienced anything like my new rigging technique. I know that large swim baits have become quite popular at catching giants over the past couple decades, and I’m not going to deny that they occasionally catch some monsters. However, let me pose a question. Why would a bass chose to strike a lure that is designed to replicate one of the thousands of live fish that are already within the bass’s territory? Either the bass strikes on impulse, or the fisherman is experienced and knows how to impart “just the right action” to the bait to elicit a strike. Or the bass could just be plain hungry and there it is. There are three other principles that influence big bass to strike my rig even if they aren’t in a feeding mood. It usually takes me between 4 to 5 minutes to work my rig back to the boat. No impulse strikes involved, but rather a bass striking as a result of the four principles that every big bass learns to evaluate before striking. I hope to be able to share this technique with everyone else very soon. I keep hearing top anglers talk about some of these principles occasionally, including you guys. I have just connected the dots. It is my goal to help anyone looking to catch the biggest bass of their life fulfill that goal. I have photos of all these catches as proof, including an uncut or edited video of the very first cast ever with my prototype catching a 6.6 pound bass choking on it. The video is currently set to private, but hopefully one day I can make it public.

Hey Matt, I watched this video and then put the advice to the test. I went to a little neighborhood pond that I can usually catch a couple of fish in but haven't the last few times I have been there. I went to by a fallen tree and picked it a part with a shaky head worm. I caught 2 of the largest Bass I have seen in this pond and 1 little dink. Keep in mind this is in the middle of the day, hot and humid, and bright sunshine. They were exactly where I thought they would be based on your advice in this video. No wasting time fishing areas where there might be a fish, I only stuck to shade, or shaded cover and on my 2nd cast I got one.

Fantastic video. You are a good teacher, man. I appreciate how much time you spend explaining the basics of finding the bass in this video, rather than just hauling in bass after bass. It's a beastly hot day in the middle of a heat wave and I woke up much later than I intended. I was kind of disappointed until I found this video. Now I'm excited. I definitely learned some things and am about to go try them out. Most people, myself included, are in the habit of sticking to the evenly shadowed shoreline or going deeper on a sunny, hot day. Fishing the sun-beaten shoreline and finding the few shadowed places is not obvious technique at all, so I'm glad you highlighted its value. That's good stuff. Also interesting to think of the light penetration creating one giant shadow running down the lake on either side. Never thought of it that way -- always thought about temperature differences from depth alone. I'm a teacher myself (music) and I recognize and appreciate your teaching skills - which includes your slower pace in these videos. Thanks again for the lesson.

Excellent info, thank you! I think I can adapt all the info for use on Mead and Mohave, though we don't have a whole lot of tree-lined shores or private docks to fish under. But sheer canyon walls we got, and lots and lots of points and coves. I grew up on Clear Lake in the 60's back when you could actually eat the fish you caught. Oddly enough, I don't remember ever fishing for bass when I was a kid, just bluegill, catfish and the occasional crawdad. Thanks for the trip down memory lane with that shot of Konocti in the background ;)

Thank you, this just made a few things click. Most of the reservoirs I fish are losing water come the heat of the summer leaving less and less shallow cover and as the season drags on I struggle more and more. Now I have some knowledge that’ll help make the deeper water click and how to get on and find my fish in water with a lot less blatantly obvious cover. I get the 50/50 split everyone talks about. But in all reality how is that going to work when there’s no shallow cover left for them to be on? Much appreciated, you guys have helped me up my game. And the PBs I’ve broken since I’ve been listening and working on this have been great.

Matt, Great tips especially about fishing around grass and vegetation, like the base of Tullies, there is a bulb and a divit that they can hide in. These are concepts most of us do not think about especially when we are catching fish in bright areas and wondering what is holding the fish = hidden structure. Cover/structure is not just rock and wood. I like how you pointed out it can be predictable. Fishing for me is akin to hunting.

Really liked this video . Challenge . Nice simple analogy of water clarity making a shadow line for fish to stack up on . Looked like a fun day of good fish minus the heat

Dig the light jig heads on big worms. Used to do that as kids, even weedless rigged, or open hook to fall slowly through suspended bass. Rubber skirt options too, super versatile. Heavy mono looped, tied to head, then kinked and attached to hook barb was a great weed guard as well. No money led us to some fun innovations that worked pretty well.

All your vids are good but this one is great. Maybe the best ever. And I actually enjoyed the "post production" voice over explanations.

Hey guys, love your videos, you guys really are awesome! Just wanted to share a couple of ideas of topics that I really really would like to see from you: 1) A video of how to fish when you have no Electronics on the boat (or just zero usage). 2) then the complete opposite, a 2nd video about getting the best out of the electronics, basing all the fishing of a day using everything on your electronics (sonar, vu, side view, real time, whatever). I'm sure you guys aren't running out of ideas or something bit just wanted to share my idea =). Thanks
