The right pistol grip is fantastic for laying down base coats, where fine control is less an issue. You can cover a large area without any fatigue. I was a huge gravity feed fan until I got my first side feed. The cup assembly is fully removable for cleaning, and it feeds just as well as a top mount cup. I'm right handed, and the cup is right side mounted, so the visibility is 100% better than my gravity feed. I can see everything happening, no matter how close to the surface I'm working.
I've gotten good results with the 34 dollar airbrush from harbor freight. Surprisingly good quality needle, smooth double action trigger, and efficient paint delivery though I'd prefer it as a gravity feed. Don't really need to spend a fortune so long as you're aware a cheaper brush isn't going to last as long. But it lasts long enough to do what I need it to do....
When 'trying on' an airbrush at a store, don't forget to have the air hose attached. The feeling of the brush will be different with and without the attached air hose.
