Where did you learn to be so methodical in your practicing and in learning something new? Was it a previous hobby, sports, or work etc? Your approach to learning and teaching is really cool.
@SarahParkMatott

Oh, thank you! I don't know exactly...I did teach myself guitar as a hobby when I was younger. And I've learned and taught a few languages. For example, with a language, I need to be able to completely think from the perspective of that language in it's culture because if I think from my US American-English perspective, I'll rarely be able to translate my thoughts well. I feel like I am doing that in a way. Not translating, but thinking in the skate context of motion if that makes sense? What similar motion could help train this one or make this less scary? When I can't get a trick, I try to break down exactly what the board is doing and I am doing and look for a connection instead of forcing it. What am I doing that's causing this reaction? Let's try moving my feet. Let's try leaning back. Let's try jumping forward. But, I've always just been really analytical in my problem solving (breaking stuff down and building it back up). No matter the subject or problem, I try to break it down into parts and look for creative solutions. I always feel like there are more--often easier--solutions out there. We just need to stumble upon them. It has inspired me to do more research on the body and brain recently though! So, I'll have some related content on that eventually too 😃

I’m a super beginner and I’m working on manuals now, but I think I can add working on this too; I’ve kind of always wanted, but was afraid because I didn’t understand the mechanics. ah, thank you! I'm so stoked to hear it. It's often the "easy" stuff that we struggle with, because what's intuitive to others is not intuitive to us. Your videos are so helpful!!! Could you make a video of ollie while riding? I kinda stuck here and not improved! I can ollie stationary but anytime when I try to ollie while rolling, i am so scared. So I use a really slow speed to do it and then my skateboard stopped rolling everytime I tried. I heard a lot of skateboarder in my country said that you should jump forward when you try to ollie over sth but idk if it’s true or not. PS thanks for your tutorial videos, they really helped me out!!!
@SarahParkMatott
@SarahParkMatott 3 года назад
Hi! I have wanted to make a rolling ollie video for a few months, but unfortunately, we've just had really bad weather, and the places I can skate are really limited right now. But, as soon as we have some nice weather, I am definitely going to be going out and filming that one! It's high on my list as soon as there are sunny days when I'm not working. I will say right now that jumping forward didn't help me personally. It made me ollie at an angle and it was much harder. I struggled mostly because it takes more strength to level out the ollie when rolling. I'm on it though! And thank you! I'm glad the videos have been helpful :D

hello, sorry if this seems unrelated but do you have any tricks you recommend trying before learning how to do an ollie? thanks!
@SarahParkMatott
@SarahParkMatott 3 года назад
Tons of them 💪 There are a ton of awesome tricks you can learn before the ollie with varying skill levels. If I was on my computer, I would link a few videos, because I have a few videos on this already. I made a video called first 5 beginner tricks and another one called 20 tricks that don’t require an ollie. I also always recommend trying out beginner freestyle footwork/tricks like yo-yo hop and switchblade (I have tutorials for these), walk the dogs, endovers, monsterwalks (in the 5 first tricks video). These tricks help a lot with getting more board control. And they’re more fun (in my opinion) than just rolling around to get comfortable.

I have a 3 stair near my church. I skate there any tips? It’s kind of my commitment and I think I’ll just ollie high and not go far

Tips for ollie-ing down it? If you're having some trouble committing, I would try to find something lower (even a curb) and work on ollie-ing faster and farther to give yourself more confidence! I'm always about building up from small steps. Then trying to find something higher like a two stair and really working up how fast and how far you can ollie off that! You might have already done this, but I would work on those and then in the same day try the two stair. That's how I worked on committing to dropping in. I don't have much experience with stairs though! If you don't like the first idea, I would recommend starting with something like a boneless or caveman down the three stair if you can jump that far. It might be a little less scary than an ollie, but you can get used to the drop and the distance! Whatever happens, you'll get it with practice💪

Sure! Might be little harder/different depending on how short the board it though 😃

💯 I think most tricks and skills are connected somehow. They definitely feed off each other 💪

Yeh I'm old and doing surf skating now, ollies are painful... So I'm gonna pick up my board walk over the curb and do this or the caveman..steez

Thanks! And well, adjusting audio and being comfortable talking to a camera/mic is always a work in progress.
