Expectation: learning how to download your opponent after one round Reality: Hotashi bragging about his 5000 IQ in which he can read his opponent's credit card info through screen

Damn what a game. Hello, I'm the Ky player that you completely obliterated(TryingToVibe) and I have to say I learned a lot from watching this and I will probably watch the actual vod later. Not gonna lie I knew I was gonna take an L but not to this extreme, you read me like a fucking open book like no other and as the match went on and I was getting nowhere, I just started panic and not properly thinking up a plan. I really do need to study up on the Nago match up. I have about 300 hours and goes to show I still have a LONG way to go. GGs man.

He makes a good point he doesn’t explicitly say, and that’s to learn the matchup and different setups basically off by heart. When you can can read a situation, you can automatically pull the plan out by muscle memory, meaning less stress and brain power being used.

That first question always reminds me of the fact that I sometimes adapt to my opponents bullshit and win, then I expect them to adapt cause their gameplan is flawed so I lose cause I started looking for nonexistent changes in gameplan/game knowledge, then I realize we are both idiots go back to literal round 1 adaptation and beat them consistently.
@himeistrying

this happens to me sometimes too lmao, I'd just say if you're doing something that's working keep doing it until your opponent can prove they're willing to try literally anything else to stop getting their ass ate

Seems like this video ended up being less about sniffing out defensive habits and more about the importance of having a super effective level 1/autopilot gameplan memorized but thats only because almost nobody in this video could keep up lol, I feel like this topic could be addressed again with players whose defense actually challenges your level 1, whenever you run into them that is. Maybe as part of post tourney vod analysis or something?
@Shearsss
@Shearsss 2 года назад
The probing of new opponents should be muscle memory. In tournament you have to assess your opponent in one round or get sent to losers. If you don't have those tests in place for your opponent then you won't be able to capitalize in time. You don't get to play the game at higher levels until you have this ability. I do not have that ability.

Sounds like the pre requisite is knowing ur char and game plan so that u can focus on interpreting responses to your game plan? Basically know ur character deep so u can max out what u can learn from each interaction?

Thanks Hotashi, It's really good to hear a top player articulate their state of mind on this topic. Would you say prioritizing a optimal flow chart/game plan comes before mind games? Obviously you should know how to play your character, but it sounds like your suggesting that mind games are wasted brain power if your not playing super clean to begin with.
@juniperrodley9843
@juniperrodley9843 Год назад
Clean play is your base. You need to, at the very least, be able to pull of your own plan consistently without compromising it specifically to be easier to pull off. Once you're good enough with execution to do all you need to for that plan, you can start building mind games on that foundation. After all, out thinking your opponent means nothing if you're not physically able to punish them for it.

Classic form of “instead of learning and taking advice I will blame my character” like if you think it’s so bad and holding you back just choose a different character (and realize that’s not how it works)

Many times when I am ''applying pressure'' / hitting a blocking opponent they just sweep me to stop me but you never get woken up? (I have been playing the game for about a week now so I don't know a lot about the game yet) How come I get 'woken up' by blocking opponents very often but it doesn't seem to happen to you as frequently. I am assuming it has something to do with spacing?

stop being so dramatic youre not going to quit playing fighting games forever, practice your combos and oki so you can win just by being the better player regardless of the matchup

My problem with this is that Hotashi's talking about game plans and a person obviously doesn't know the match up when he knows he's better at the game than 99.999% of players. It's like me training for a year in MMA with my small experience in martial arts, then fighting one of the best in the world and they talk shit on how I lacked confidence in the ring and should have been more careful of their left hook. Thanks, maybe if I fought every day, like you, then I'd know how to do that. When you're fighting against someone with a skill level that allows for development in that game PLUS fighting games in general (count your hours vs theirs) then you can be that critical but you don't know their level. Their current position could be a huge accomplishment. The attitude that you don't know their actual level should be so blatant that it is ingrained into how you think about every match online. There's no excuse for saying a person should know when to burst against Nago when you have the most experience and they might have had 50 Nago matches.
