Read all about the Star Apple here on my website: inthekitchenwi...
In this episode of In The Kitchen With Matt, I will show you how to eat a star apple as well as do a taste test. I also talk about where star apples come from and where they can grow. It is a very delicious and nutritious tropical fruit. A little hard to find here in the States, and chances are they will be expensive here. They are super cheap if not free in places like the Philippines. They are also known by the names of milk fruit, star plum, cainito or caimito, tar apple, purple star apple, golden leaf tree, and a few other names. On to the information!
What does Star Apple taste like?
It is hard to describe the unique flavor of the Star Apple. It is kind of like a mix between watered-down sweetened condensed milk, blueberries, and lychee or rambutan. Something along those lines. It is very juicy and refreshing tasting.

If you are eating from the shell without a spoon I suggest you rub some oil on your mouth so it won't be sticky. Very tasty fruit 😋 spent my childhood eating star apple everyday when it is in season

Here in Indonesia,we call it sawo beludru,but there is no pink color close to the skin. The skin color is soft green. part that we eat is the white part also and the taste is soo good. Pretty easy to get it here on its season. My friend or neighbour sometimes gave it to me. Or sometimes you can buy it in traditional market...

I purchased a star apple yesterday at my local farmers market here in Hawaii. I have never eaten one. Last night I cut it open removed the seeds and cut it up into cubes and put it I. The freezer. This morning I put it in the blender to make my morning smoothie! Oops! I did not know you only eat the fleshy white part! We enjoyed the whole thing in a smoothie without the seeds of course! 😬

Bought 2 of these recently but they were mismarked as Passion Fruit. Cut open the first one expecting it to just be a large passion fruit. It was milky and hard seeds. Didn't seem sweet at all and the flesh was kind of mealy / slimy. The latex seemed like it was literally like glue, and dried my lips out. Was I slightly poisoned by eating that latex?
@inthekitchenwithmatt
@inthekitchenwithmatt 8 месяцев назад
you should be okay if you only ate a little amount of the latex. But yeah with these you only want to eat the inside and not all the way to the edge.

Tropica Mango sales them here in AZ, but it is East Valley, in Phoenix. So depending on where in AZ you live it may be a far drive. www.tropicamango.com/ you can also buy the tree at Shamus O'Leary's Tropicals www.greenlifebyshamusoleary.com/shop his nursery is in Phoenix. Looks like he has some in stock.

Hi you will need to look for an International Supermarket, they may sell them there. In Maryland, H-MART has locations in Catonsville, Ellicott City, Frederick, Gaithersburg, and Wheaton. If you are near any of those cities you can check to see if they sell them, or just search Asian or International Markets on Google to find one close to you.
