Hi elicia, im a little lost. So based on the power of now by eckhart tolle, he believes that we are not supposed to be identified with anything or we would be operating from our conscious egoic mind and not from our “being”. He also mentioned that the only way we feel peace and joy is through being conscious and present, not identified with anything, not operating from unconsciousness or egoic mind. Whats your take on this? :)

Honestly there is so much to talk about just from 0:00 - 3:00 I think what is really striking me is the concept associating activities and habits with apart of your identity. I feel like when you think of this concept for a bit, it’s very intuitive and has many implications. When you think of famous celebrities like Ariana Grande or Michael Jordan, what are they known for? Amazing singing abilities or amazing basketball skills. How did they obtain this? Consistent discipline and a desire to intentionally increase their competence in that area. When you say their names, they are associated with their craft and talent more than their individual and separate identity as a human being. Why? Because their craft became apart of their identity. They worked at it with the mindset that it was apart of their identity cards typically this comes from a deep enjoyment of what you are doing. If you can identify any elements of joy a habit can bring (fitness, studying, meditating, journaling, etc), and be aware of those positive elements, you will start to find more joy in doing them and you will become aware of how the experience makes you feel during and after. Then as you start to become more aware of your emotional and sensational attachment to the disciplines and intentional habits that you build, you can start to identify with them on a personal level because these habits end up becoming you in a way. There are a lot of reasons why we desire to be disciplined in certain areas that can improve our lives, but I think when we break it down, we want to have those habits be developed and ingrained in us so much to the point that we just do these things because "that's just what we do", and we don't need anymore of an explanation to convince ourselves because we have done the work to answer that questioned for ourselves before coming to that habit daily. Why do I read everyday "It's just what I do" , "why do I eat well and go to the gym", its just what I do, etc.

Your videos are all over my feed! You're killing it. I lost 40 lbs a year ago because of this mindset. For fitness, or anything really, Atomic Habits phrases it perfectly. To become the person you want to be, you have to do what that person would be doing. Like you said, a fit person identifies as someone who goes to the gym - so workout x times a week and that's it. Implement a plan and evaluate results after a reasonable amount of time and tweak as necessary. Easier said. It's hard not to obsess.

It goes a lot with the law of least resistance. If you want something so badly and you think it’s going to be hard, you’ll likely not succeed so easily. If you find a way to make it fun or enjoyable in any way it becomes a habit and therefore, “easy”. ❤

I'm no longer going to get mad at you and shame you for falling off of a diet. ." my little two cents: being „lazy“ can also be a trauma response, or a response to something that‘s currently in our lives that is taking a lot of energy from us (e.g. a stressful job, a bad housing situation etc.) people need to cut themselves some slack also; I‘m all here for reaching your goals and working hard but it‘s helpful to shift your perception a bit sometimes for example, I‘m getting SO much more done ever since I moved into my first own apartment and switched jobs!! bc I just have way more energy and space. you know? sometimes it‘s not really you, it‘s the circumstance(s)

I love that you mentioned that we have bad habits that are coping mechanisms because when we want to make a change, there’s a part of us that doesn’t feel like that change is safe. It’s like a human blue print, it’s like in our DNA for humans to not like change bc our subconscious self is trying to keep us safe. I know for a fact that’s why I am afraid to be successful with money in my business AND start a RU-vid channel. Part of me is scared to start (or at least continue) my RU-vid channel bc I don’t feel safe. I’m afraid of what my family and friends might think? I’m afraid of mean comments and haters. And of course afraid of failing. Similar to my business success. I know I’m afraid of not being good enough and having unhappy clients and failing, that makes me feel unsafe. So I hide behind habits that I know are not the best bc they are familiar and what is familiar feels safe. Thank you for saying that bc that makes my own behavior make so much more sense to me. I have to find ways to self soothe and remind myself that the small scale I work on these goals day to day are not dangerous. It doesn’t have to be a big deal, it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Just take bite size pieces as I go. Thank you so much for this video! I needed to see this right now!

Girl this video popped up on my youtube feed and it's like the algorithm read my mind. This resonated so deeply with me on so many levels and I am so appreciative to have found your channel. My favorite quote as of recent has been "you can't hate yourself to change" but for some reason I found myself crying @ the gym this week because "it's not working for me and I don't know what to do" (no results + low confidence). Honestly it's just about GOING and being consistent and ENJOYING THE PROCESS. I needed to hear all of this. Also really really enjoyed hearing you talk about your own journey healing/doing the work; I have so many things coming up rn from my childhood that wants to be looked at and it's giving me a lot of grace with myself and love. We have all been through something and we need love and compassion. Can't wait to dive into more of your vids. thank you soooo much for this! xxx

As someone who is currently in between the motions of laziness and getting myself up and executing the different actions I want to take, I found this to help so much. I have picked myself so many times that i'm now in a space where I feel like I deserve some things but if I don't do others, something bad is going to happen.... Really brought to light how much I've been fighting myself and even though I am constantly picking myself up, my mental health just deteriorates in an astronomically sneaky way.. You kind of lose yourself, you know it, you feel it, you try to help it and it feels like it's failing, but in reality it's not. Your video helped me realize that things take time and like you said we need to detach from things to better ourselves. Thank you so much for this video and I look forward to watching more!

There are so many videos on this topic floating on YT but something about your delivery hits home for me. I remember I lost 20 lbs in a month simply by just going to the gym. I had no plan or set time being there, I was simply there to bypass time until the traffic cooled down for me to drive home from work. Little did I know the detachment I had about weight loss became the instant benefit of me going daily. I mean, I did want to loose weight but it wasnt really my driving force to be there. The whole thing shocked me to my core since I previously hired a coach and went consistently for a yr prior with minimal results. All is mental, but detachment ( lack of obsession) is really the key to get anything you want in this life. Thank you for the reminder ❤

It’s crazy because once you build that habit, it doesn’t require much thought. I’ve also been going to the gym and lifting since I was 16, and a decade later I don’t have to motivate myself to be consistent because the idea of not exercising anymore is just not on my radar. I have my ‘lazy’ areas where I haven’t built those habits and the results speak for themselves. What I would say is I hesitate to label myself as one thing. I’m not ‘lazy’ because I struggle to be disciplined and consistent with my money, I just don’t have all the knowledge and conviction yet as to why that’s very important. But I’m working on that.

Veeery much appreciate you sharing your experience so honestly and openly - especially what you said about detaching to outcomes!! ❤ as someone recovered/ing from a severe decade long eating disorder, may I gently suggest shifting away from labelling foods as good or bad - for a lot of folks, that kind of black or white thinking (which I'm still working to dismantle personally) can end up perpetuating shame cycles/disordered eating, as it's second nature to equate the value of what we may eat with who we are. in the same vein of black or white thinking, i also think it's important to understand that consistency is a process and something you build up to!! the expectation of going to the gym 5 days a week (as an example) when you're just starting out often means setting your self up for failure in a way, if you miss a day or if life gets in the way. consistency is rarely built successfully when your expectation is to adhere to it perfectly or strictly (an underlying tenant of common E.D.'s). all the coping mechanisms and patterns in our brain that started out trying to keep us safe but in the long-term were harmful or destructive we've repeated for years and decades and we can't perfectly undo or erase them in a few weeks or months or even a year. instead of expecting yourself to adhere to going to the gym (just an example) for hour long sessions 5 times a week, try starting with 2 sessions per week of some kind of movement you know you already enjoy or doing a planned gym repertoire (there's an infinite amount of weight-lifting, conditioning, any type of training plans available on the internet/insta/tiktok) with a friend to add a layer of accountability. anytime i've had long periods of consistency in going to the gym or regularly engaging in body movement, the most impactful parts of it weren't fixed to my body image or what i looked like in the mirror - the real fulfillment stemmed more from building love-based discipline, developing a sustainable routine and following through or surpassing the goals i set for myself. i think we're often conditioned to think that things like happiness or confidence exist in a fixed state we arrive at if we only work hard enough at. but in reality, they're fluid and changing depending on the day, or circumstance or year, etc. self-worth isn't something that you achieve and automatically have for the rest of your life and even if you achieve certain physical aesthetics (that, especially on social media, revolve around thinness) or body goals, it never really feels like it's enough (at least for me and a lot of my friends). i'm only sharing all this because the lack of conversation around REAListic improvement in mental & physical health definitely contributed into my going down a path of self-destruction and intense shame. the last thing i want is for others to experience that pain and misery too. all the constant advertising and over-accessibility to social media we're exposed to means we're traversing through so much information and half-truths and facades that undoubtably end up influencing our thoughts, emotions, & behaviors and a lot of can be subconsciously or even blatantly harmful. there are parts in each of us that are all hopeful, strong, insecure, encouraging, unpleasant, loving, etc. and it's 100% NORMAL to encompass an impossibly huge spectrum of characteristics . We are not all one thing or the other. anyways, sorry for such a long comment and thank you for using your platform in an insightful & responsible way! ❤ much love to Elicia & anyone reading this ✨✨

Over the years, I've noticed that whenever I obsessed about getting a certain job, partner, friendship or goal in my life, it didn't work out at the end. I feel like it had to with the fact that I was too focused on the outcome. that's what I've been talking about for years! even made a video but never uploaded it because I didn't believe in myself, and just lost motivation. Yes its so true, if your motivation for change is because you hate yourself, that's not a good place to start from. First you have to be okay with where and who you are. You might say something like "Im not happy with what I look like or where I am right now in life, but I accept that and myself as I am right now, knowingly that I got what it takes to change overtime." You can't start by hating yourself, eventually hating your way into loving yourself. It just doesn't work that way. First you have to adress your mental health issues, your mindset and come from a place from acceptance, love and compassion. Then you don't go to the gym because you hate your body and want to look better, you simply do it out of love for yourself and you know that its good for you. Also what I just learned about self-sabotage from a psychologist is: there is no such thing as self sabotage. Girl here in the video already said it. Its your old patterns you formed in an unhealthy environment (e.g. your childhood) in order to survive. Its your conditioning to unhealthy situations that you might have been stuck in for years. If you find yourself stuck today in unhealthy destructive situations or such a lifestyle, then its not because you want to damage yourself or do not love you enough or are self-sabotaging yourself, it is because you have only learned how to survive in unhealthy destructive situations. Its the only way you know how to function. People that grew up in unhealthy situations, only know how to create a bit of safety IN unhealthy situations, not in healthy ones (or know how to survive in them). When your little child self had to deny itself, its needs and wants and true feelings, in order to feel some sense of safety, it damn will. So instead of hating yourself for "self-sabotaging" yourself, realize that you're just surviving in the old way, that just happens to prevent you from building the life that you want in the now. Its your precious, healthy, indispensable survival instinct which has just been deeply deeply shaped to create safety in destructive ways. Another important thing is the way you view yourself. Your self image. If you have a negative self image, you're looking for negative confirmation in order to feel good about yourself, as paradoxically as it sounds. Again another survival strategy. Just know, that both these things are not the truth. Everything you do and feel makes sense. Nothing has no meaning behind it. So get to understand how you truly view yourself, why you do so and then stop feeding the negative self image of yourself and be like "I hear you. I thank you and know that you once were important (for my safety), but I don't believe you no longer" Or "its okay, your safe now Im going to take care of you etc." And now you want to teach something to that old part of yourself, you want to bless it with new positive situations instead of the negative confirmation. That way you'll feed that old voice, new positive information about yourself and that - ladies and gents, is how you change. Easier said than done, but you're worth it! 🤓

I'm not lazy but I have ADHD which hinders me from following through tasks on the daily. Consistency is my natural enemy and every kind of routine starts to bore me to a point where it becomes painful to force myself to do something. I've tried so many things to better my life and become "that girl" or whatever, but it seems like it's just never gonna be sustainable for me. I know I can never become that mental image of who I'd want to be but I can't even concentrate on the journey of getting there because my body and mind just refuse to listen to me.

I've been struggling with the idea of continuing to live as my past self- I'm trying to make better, bigger moves and I keep gripping onto my old lazy self. It's so hard letting it go but I know I want to and NEED to. The hardest part is letting others down and not knowing how to balance friends and fun with my productivity. I LOVE the idea of identifying as someone who does xyz. I was on track with my weight loss recently but I fell off track due to a big career blow (got hired then offer pulled a week later lol, love this upcoming recession!!), and I'm struggling to get back on track. I recently realised that I can redefine who I am at any point in my life, and I decided that when I realised I don't want to share my embarrassing past with others- I just want to accept it and then take it with me to my grave. No one has to know that cringe thing I tried or that mistake I made- I can accept it and not drag it along with me like a chain on my ankle. Once I realised that, it was just so life-changing and calming. A huge weight was let go and I feel confident and better that I can define myself as who I am NOW and not the past I had.

But the way I'm eating is effecting my health in negative ways, and if I want to feel better, I need to focus on what I'm eating. Sweets we're always my comfort. Oh I had a stressful day I just want a piece of cake or ice cream to feel good and feel love. Work is too busy so I would skip meals and then not get enough foods or protein and feel tired and weak. Once I get that in check, I want to do a fitness class that will hold me accountable to show up. Thank you for this video, our brains make everything seem so much harder and overwhelming. Just do it! Great video to watch for clearness and motivation! "For any goal you have (gym, RU-vid, eat healthy...), detach from the outcome, just know that if you're consistent you'll get the results & Try to change from a place of love (heal), not manipulation and force (comparison, self-hatred). When you were a child you learned suppressing/ coping with your emotions with unhealthy food. Realize that and feel and heal them. If you want something in your life, it comes from having a relationship with yourself."
