How to Fix Your Loose Stick (manual shift stick) 

I expected to see something fixed as the title states, and yet he fixed nothing. Its not comforting that almost every direction given is prefaced with "I think".

Good enough video man. Congrats but I think we all know someone that has passed away due to working on cars or trucks without jack stands. Jack stands are life savers especially when teaching the young ones how to do one of there first repairs. Also chuck the tires. Safety first safety 2nd safety 3rd. Repair 4th. That's exactly what I was thinking the problem was! I actual had that bolt completely fall out on my way to work the other day. Thankfully it was in 4th when it happened so I was able to make it there in time, but it was rough. Thanks a bunch man!

The stick in our E30 is the worst I have ever seen. My wife and I have been driving it for ten plus years. Didnt realize how bad it was until someone else went to move it......and couldn't drive it! LOL. Works fine for us!

I have a problem with my linkage on my 00 civic ex coupe (it has a swap), the linkage is offset to the right and down I can't put the car in 4th and reverse, up to now I'm just going to replace the whole linkage I know for a fact that the linkage was some how bent at the tip where the shifter connects to the linkage during the swap process, please if anyone thinks this is the way to go, your confirmation would be most appreciated.

I need to fix my shifter because in my ek the shifter is very loose, but because I plan on going diy I have a couple questions. Does the car need to be in gear or neutral before I do this? Can the middle plastic piece that needs to be replaced, be replaced with a harder more durable piece, like polyurethane or even metal?

My shifter recently became hard to move. My exhaust broke behind the cat and now I'm wondering if maybe the heat from my exhaust melted the bushings? Would that cause my shifter to be hard to move?

just a shift bushing. no matter what gear my car is in i can soup boul the whole shifter and not pull it outta gear unless i do it a certain way lol. i like it personally

The shifter feels really loose even in gear, it almost feels like its in neutral. It is also a 96 civic, would this fix that problem?

Jordan, a friend recently had a basic d series engine replacement in his 1997 Civic Coupe Ex and when he got his car back everything was great EXCEPT the linkage is off center towards the right. He's having a problem getting into fifth and reverse is a coin toss. Shifting itself is very smooth like when it was new but just moved too far to the right.Given the issues I've described is this a t bracket issue or a problem with the linkage binding? I would really appreciate your expertise.

My stick shifter won't go into gear at all. I didn't notice any problem, and then all of the sudden it was just not catching in any gear at all, no matter what I do. It is stuck in 1st gear, and I can push the clutch pedal in, and drive the car forward with no problem. Does that mean my clutch needs to be completely replaced?

oooo a 98 with si rims, I don't know what you're replacing, but I bought an energy suspension bushing set for the shifter and transmission stablizer, it does not include the part you are changing. It is the part just behind the shifter which u can see, there is a ushape bracket with 2 12 mm bolts in it and the stablizer bushing. I don't actually know what you're replacing

I got the same car (bought today). It also has a loose stick. But i think i'm gonna install a short shifter, because the shifter of the 99 civic is very long. and it comes with rubbers. only costs like 20 bucks more than just the rubbers

Dude you're sending people on a wild goose chase with this video. The U joints where the linkage connects to the transmission is where the problem is. Just squeeze them in a table vice until they are tight against the plastic washers. Boom. Problem solved.

Hey, my sisters is loose as well and it goes straight into all gears with no clutch and its loose as hell and moves like it but, there is a squeak on and it sounds like a knock in engine bay, would this solution fix all of this?

Hello I'm reallllly having problems with my looser shifter. I own a 1999 honda civic em1 and my shifter has has a lotttttt of play it's really annoying. I already replaced the transmission shifter bushings(energy suspension) and it did nothing! How would I fix the grind into 3rd gear?

This is one way try to fix the loose shifter problem but it could also be the linkage itself. The part that goes into the trans could be going bad. You have to replace the whole linkage then. I have that problem on my Civic. Its no big deal

for me its loose on neutral and goesnt go straight into 3/4 gear

Umm first never leave it on the floor jack put a stand under it it and I would lift it from the middle put it in gear and jack stand both sides oh and uh don’t say thingy get to know what the parts are called and I’m pretty sure you could have used a deep well socket but good job with lighting and camera angle👍

the rod u have to punch out is metal with o rings , if u wanted to be cheap just get new o rings n lube her up

as of today, go to NAPA,, search for shifter bushing kit,,,, this is the kit for this fix as of this date its 14 bucks ymmv

As easy and cheap and simple it is to throw in a short shifter kit id do it but thats my opinion.

Care to tell me where you got your piece? O'Rielly's doesn't carry it, or their guys don't know what it is. The name of the plastic piece is the CHANGE LEVER BALL SEAT, and you can get it at the dealership but fuck that.

You are calling it the wrong thing you are on the Ball seat not the Shift linkage bushing.
