Emma shares her simple overnight oats banoffee pie recipe, perfect energy for a pre-ride breakfast!

Ingredients:
90g quick oats (about a cup)
A pinch of salt
Few drops of vanilla essence
30g muscovado sugar (2 tablespoons)
1 espresso (about 50ml)
200ml skimmed milk
1 medium sized ripe banana (100g when peeled)
150g natural low-fat greek style yogurt
10g (1 square) of dark chocolate - optional

Thanks, Emma, I had never heard of that--our pies in the States are baked with a crust and a sweetened fruit filling--but it looks good and I will give it a go. And I will try not to spill anything :)

Nicholas Sorensen For 60 mile rides I show up at Hockley Community Center for NWCC on Saturday mornings at 7:30. They have different groups and speeds and distances on small roads in Harris and Waller counties. There are also group rides of that distance in Katy and Woodlands. Problem is I live in Montrose. An hour drive away from where they gather. So during the week I have rides along White Oak or Braes bayous that are 30 miles that I tend to ride by myself during the week. Lots of places you have to stop for cars but also some places you can get in HIIT. The GCN presenters have to deal with rain near Bath England but it always seems like there are great picturesque roads and even some hills. Not so much here and the heat index is insane 6 months out of the year.

Stuart Dryer yeah I am in the woodlands. Everything here is flat, and the heat right now is MISERABLE. If I ride from my house to my in laws, it’s a 56 mi ride, but some of the roads are pretty sketch lol

@@NicholasJens I spend essentially my whole life in Houston and then I moved to Europe. Houston is the worst place for cycling. Europe is like a huge park for cycling. It's so safe to ride on the roads compared to Houston. I feel like I went to heaven for bikes.

Made this last night for my morning commute and it was great. I probably put too much coffee in so it was a little bitter in places but really enjoyed it and will definietly be making this more regularly before heading off on my bike. Great recipe!

Thanks a bunch for the suggestion, Emma, you've nailed it (once again). I've tried it and not only was it awesome, it also improved my pre-weekend ride routine. If I have to mention something negative, it's that I assumed it would make me as fast as you and it did not pan out that way...

I doubled the about of sugar, replaced the coffee with Coke-Cola and added a shot of Grand Marnier...yum!!

Just had for my pre ride breakfast. Super nice porridge. Definitely will make this again. I made it with unsweetened almond milk and it was not too sweet. Would recommend this. Thanks for the great videos and advice GCN.

Tried this one this morning before a heavy weight session. A very sweet morning treat. My daughter jumped in and ate the last half while I was not looking. She loved it too. Certainly helped me power through the squats. Good food, good taste good work.

Made it yesterday and had some this morning after my morning ride. As said it's delicious but it really packs a punch. I could hardly manage half of it as it's really filling, but it got me well through the morning without any inclination to have snacks before lunch time! It's also a great substitute for hot cereal in summer.

Tried and more than approved. Love that before a long ride. Additional advantage: no time needed to prepare breakfast on the day of the ride. Grab that in the fridge and off you go...

I made this recipe and it was delicious! I was really surprised how tender the oats had become by the morning. I didn't use the sugar, instead opting for some healthier honey instead. I also added chia seed and made mine with soya milk. But yes, as a pre/post ride meal it's fantastic.

I do something similar but add 20g cacao nibs, 15g chia seeds, 50g blueberries and I use 50/50 1%milk and unsweetened almond milk. And I mash the banana and fold it in. I also do not add any sugar, I sweeten it with two chopped dates.

Great variation of the everyday breakfast =) Using almost the same I cook oats pancakes with mint chocolate chips yogurt and granola topping. It's great all the stuff you can make using the same base ingredients. Have a nice weekend !

I made this today with chocolate flavored protein powder instead of sugar and it tasted great. I added honey to the yogurt but think it would be just as nice without. I also added pumpkin seeds for some crunch. Great breakfast option idea before a big ride or post ride meal.

Just tried it, tastes very good although I found it was a little too liquid even after a night in the fridge. Next time I think I'll cut the milk by 50ml or so, to see if it gives a more "solid" result. It is in fact a lot of sugar, but it isn't a problem if you take pre or post ride, or occasionally. I have just made this recipe after a couple of hours of hard work on my bike. I used unsweetened soy milk and soy yogurt. It's absolutely Deeelliiiccciiiouuuusss ! Yum ! I think that it's a lot more food that my body after a ride. I have some leftovers. I definitely think this would be more suited as a nice post training recovery meal or could qualify as a treat. Half of it was enough for me.

Overnight oats have become my go-to breakfast the morning of a big ride. I usually combine oats, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, honey, and whatever fruit I’ve got sitting around.

Will give this a go but definitely half the recipe! I do a carrot cake overnight oats, kind of similar but with grated carrots, raisins and cinnamon.

I very rarely comment anything anywhere really. But I can't help it this time. 1) I did this and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! Even with a bit let sugar it tastes absolutely amazing. 2) Emma has got the gist of this being a presenter thing and to be honest, it seems she's been doing it for many years! Keep it up GCN!

Really loved it! Went out on hard ride and felt good. Only one issue - 90g was a lot if oats. 60g would be enough for me as a breakfast before the ride. Really full!
