Growing yams has always come with two major difficulties: disease and undesirable chacteristics in the harvest. One sure way to overcome both problemsis by using selected yams to produce a massive number of yam seedlings with desirable characteristics and disease resistance.

Make STOCK SOLUTION Ratio of NPK to Epsom salt is 2:1 in 100mls water. Place 15ml spoonful of NPK and 7.5ml spoonfuls of epsom salt in 100mls water. The Stock solution is stable and can be kept and diluted for months Dilute stock solution at ratio of 1: 250 5ml stock solution x 250 =1,250mls of water Place 5mls stock solution in 1,250mls water for use.

This video is super informative, my sister. Growing yams from leaves is a super smart way of doing it.. We will be doing this indoors over the Winter again.
@LiliansGardens
@LiliansGardens 2 года назад
Thanks for your kind words my brother, the most suitable yams will be selected over October to January and kept on soil till January when yams start growing. They will be indoors and they should grow fast. By spring the leaves will be ready for cutting and planting. These leaves in the video are from my old plant and are not likely to survive...I think they can sense their dormancy time. The original yam is still in the soil. My regards to the family, Lilian

It is best to plant the yam a couple of months before the rainy season. If the rains come in March then plant your Yam in January. The yam should be watered twice/thrice a week until the rains come, by this time the yams should have sprouted. Yes you may plant in part shade and stake upright. It ismy pleasure , thank you too.

Amazing video. I didn’t know aspirine can be used to prevent plants diseases. I watched the video twice but I cannot get how you go from cut yam to vine. Thanks

The cut yam will grow vines The farmer can use the vines to produce some seedlings while the main yam is growing aswell.

Thank you Princess Lilian your channel is very informative. Place can you make a video to mix animal manure with soil in the right proportion. Which is the best animal manure to grow yams.
@LiliansGardens
@LiliansGardens 2 года назад
Yes I will do that very soon. Earthworm manure is the best manure . Cow horse and poultry manure are also very good though they must beallowed about one year to rot down so they do not burn plants. About a small handful of manure per plant at start of season. I will make that video soon.

I never knew of this method. I always assumed you plant the 'head'.
@LiliansGardens
@LiliansGardens 2 года назад
The head is asure way to get a quicker harvest but food is reduced as a result. Secondly the head roduces one new yam but the leaves will produce 300 new yams in two years, It's a long er option.

This is impressive, really love it but can't i grow yams during its off season like November, December even when taking care of properly
@LiliansGardens
@LiliansGardens 2 года назад
Thanks for your kind comment. You may plant the yam in November/December and keep an eye on it properly so it does not get damaged by pests. It will only start growing in January...you can almost set your clock by these yams. If it's already a growing yam the leaves will turn yellow and fall off... it's still alive but will go dormant and reawaken in January.

@@hanaojobo3447 During its off season yit needs less water if the leaves have fallen off. It will return in January and you will get a much larger yam at harvest time 8 to 10 months later.

My kids are asking why you are washing yams with soap
@LiliansGardens
@LiliansGardens 2 года назад
It's to get rid of soil on the skin completely. Soil harbours nematodes and other microornisms whichare harmful to yam specifically.
