You don't have to remove the fog lights or the lower bumper cover or the license plate holder to remove the front clip of the car. There's three bolts inside the fender that holds the bumper on that can easily be removed once the headlights have been removed. Once you take the skid plate/ belly pan off the bottom you can get to the two main bolts that hold the bumper on to the front impact absorbers.
You are correct... Keep this in mind that this was the 1st time i ever removed the frontend off one of these cars. Great thing about it i learn and now i can do it faster.
Dude wish i would of read yours before i took my hol front enders off got s the front.of the car sittin on the side in the garage but still helpfull ass video tho
Good pointer i believe, if you dont want to risk breaking a radiator socket. you know how the front end is being held by two torx screws, instead of disconnecting them just reseat the furthest torx screw to the closest one giving you an extra 2 inches of room to do the job.
According to all the manuals I've read, before you remove the piston lock tool you're supposed to insert a special hex tool (I used an appropriate size torx bit in the absence of the special tool or an allen that would fit) in the hole in the middle of the tensioner pulley and turn it until you can slide an 8mm drill bit between the body of the tensioner and the tensioner lever that sits on top of the tensioner piston, then torque the nut that holds the pulley. Seems like it might be an important step. Just sayin'.
79401Jeeper Thats the way to do it via owners manual. the Bently manual gives 2 methods for tighting the tensioner. it also matters which tensioner you are using. i have noticed there are 2 types that both have 2 different ways to add tension.
Timing belt change on this car is a pain in the ass.. so much things u need to remove before u can actually work on the timing belt.. thats why i have a Leon Cupra R lol
Really helpful DIY, I am planning to do iy on my passat 1.8 turbo AEB, so while verifying the marks on the crankshaft and the camshaft in order to spin the enjine you have to put it on neutral gear? Am I right? And also whats the type and size of the socket you are using to spin the crankshaft?
What is the tube at 22:31 that's going across the front of the engine near where the water pump used to be? My Audi A4 B6 2004 quattro 1.8T *doesn't* have one, and I'm not sure if this is bad or not.
This is @very very helpful video paisa. I have 07 Audi that needs to be remplace the intake camshaft due to one of the end that makes the HPFP work got damage. Any other idea o video that helps how to fix it. Thanks and good job paisas...
Could timing being off effect the camshaft position sensor I had replace it with 3 different one's brand new and I still get a check engine light on for it
Hello, once you mentioned some tips about the cooling system, I would like to ask you the following. I am working on a 2003 A4 Audi 1.8T and its overheating. I am suspecting it has a stuck closed thermostad and I wanted to know for sure before start tearing things apart. The upper port of the thermostad assembly is actually a input or output port? it has a small hose connected to it and connected to the top coolant line going to the radiator. To verily that the thermistor opens or closes I have disconnected the small hose and left the upper port of the thermostad housing and let it open. I started the engine, it reaches normal temp, fans went on and starts overheating but no coolant came out the upper open port of the thermostad assembly. Any advice?
Rudolph Palm i would suggest to remove the thermostat and reinstall the housing and see if the car overheats without the thermostat. If it still does you might have a clogged block or radiator.
Ok Thank you, I will remove the thermostat tomorrow. The radiator is a brand new Radiator (aftermark) But the problem of the overheating was there before. Radiator has been replaced due a very small crack which became worse after days. But when I replaced the radiator and bleed all the air of the system the overheating issues is still there. Thanks for your reply I appreciated it! cheers!!
Clayton Walker check condition of the timing belt. Look for cracks, shinyness of tue belt, check if there any missin teeth and the water pump can have a small leak too from the weeping hole also a good sign its time to replace it.
Ri C yes you can remove the front clip without draining the AC system however you have to drain the radiator. No other way around that since to hose will prevent you from giving you the space you need to do the job
again great video! good tip on the tooth and a half turn down before tightening the tensioner. wish you could've gave more in depth tensioner position before pulling the pin.
spraym 88 yeah that is true however i have to think of this while i am doing the work since this is a same day job i somtimes for get these small pointers.
I wanted to do it to my car but im afraid of the timing part.. If a got the parts ( timing belt, pump, etc.)the labor for a certified mechanic( not me) its gonna cost me more than a G????
Thanks for the video that you uploaded I could change the water pump of my Audi 2003 a4 just watching your video I got everything perfect now I need to change the rack pinion any idea you can give me would be very helpful
@@PincheALsGarage Ok noted, I got a problem though, I was starting to fill the coolant reservoir to start the burping process but all the coolant is dripping from a little nipple next to the radiator hose and I can't figure out how to close that. Do you know how its supposed to be closed? I've tried allen keys but it doesnt work.
Nevermind I figured it out, I wasn't seeing there's a little twist thingy you have to spin to turn it off but thank you so much PincheAl, you're awesome bro!
Howie C So true, I like Al's videos but as a experienced multiple b6 1.8t owner he went about this the loooooooooooooooooonnnnnng way lol. He didn't have to take half of the stuff off that he removed.
Dude perfectly done but wish you would of actually showed yourself doing every nut and bolt (not just go to next scene with it done ) so beginers like myself get a step by step ( basiclly written in crayon ) j\k no but really great video hope timimg turns out well
