How to install NH-D15 CPU cooler

Thanks to your great video I was able to install everything correctly without messing up or forgetting anything in the first place!! Just note to anyone about to do the same: screwing the two screws of the heat sink was bit tricky. Be sure to apply some pressure down on the screwdriver else you will have a hard time screwing both screws so that they both attach. Thanks a lot for your video! It was very visible, precise (no superflous steps making the video unncessary long) and some nice calming music keeping me calm while installing everything. ;)

Loved the high resolution and presentation! I wish you'd have included trying to fit it into a case. I've heard that the fan height on one side being taller than the heat pipes keeps it from fitting into many cases, even large cases.

What I learned is this is a full day project if I want to upgrade from my 3900 to 5950x CPU - complete teardown and rebuild. Thank you for allowing me to properly plan my time; this is not a simple pop and replace project.

You forgot the part where once the motherboard and cooler are installed in the case you then have to take the cooler off again because it's impossible to reach the 8 pin CPU power connector with the heatsink in the way! Yeah my mistake, great cooler though once it's all set up.

Thank you for the video! I am looking at this for a new build. I installed an AIO in my original build, but I think I want to go air this time around. The installation video was well done. It doesn't seem too complicated when I need to do it myself, and the dramatic music made the experience a heck of a lot better. Narration would have been nice, but it really wasn't that necessary. Keep up the great work!

This thing is a beast! Going with this over a AIO for my build in the fall when the new Intels drop. I won't be running a second fan though, since it barely makes any difference and looks bad when offset like that. Good vid.

I really love how noctuas install with just 2 easy, fixed screws unlike coolermaster where its free floating and 4 screws and can twist the entire cooler if you try taking off the fans.

For my case, I would mount the mb and install all the power cords, ram, and m.2 ssds before attaching this behemoth ;D

One question, when trying to install the mobo with this cooler mounted are the screw holes on the mobo easily accessible?, it looks like the cooler will block some if you install it on the mobo outside the case.

Thanks for detailed video! :) Are those vengeance LPX RAM sticks? They should have 31mm height and noctua is listing up to 32mm without need of moving the fan up. I'm confused, I wanted to use this cooler but it won't fit the case if I have to move it upwards.

Just got this cooler I installed it with 4 sticks of G.skill Trident Z RGB RAM on a i9 s2066 socket without a problem. There is plenty of room for the RAM.

How do you access the motherboard mounting screws to mount the mobo into the case with that massive heat sink in the way? Would it be easier to install the back plate and cooler mounting brackets on to the mobo, then mount the mobo into the case, then screw the heat sink to the mobo?

NH-D14 here... I looked at the NH-D15 (and se-AM4 variant) but unfortunately it's too tall for my case which can only handle 160mm. Wow, you really need to pay attention to both the case AND your memory height. And don't forget you want a few mm extra as you don't want any touching... I finally just ordered the AM4 adapter kit for FREE which makes my NH-D14 compatible. It's still working great since 2010!! The fans are only 3-pin but apparently most motherboards support both 3-pin and 4-pin fans for speed control... my case supports 160mm and the NH-D14 barely fits. But it fits. Took off the 2nd fan and put it on the rear for exhaust. Will be cooling an R9-3900x. Noctua cooler totally worth it. I might be on my 3rd liquid cooler by now otherwise.

Great video, Thanks. Unfortunately, none of these videos show how to plug the power connector into the motherboard once that big a*s fan is mounted in the case. I know, I've done it and it's not an easy task.

You know you can also mount it other way, right?

Does it matter which way the fans go around?? Also,, is it worth getting a 3rd fan, if so where do I get the steel bearings from? :)

does it matter what side the blades face? I notice there is a sticker of the noctua logo on one side of the fan

If intake, do you need a set of fans (exhaust) on top of the case, (intake) in the front, (exhaust) in the back to have a balanced airflow? If exhaust, Do i still need fans on top of case (exhaust) and (exhaust) fans on the back or no need? Just the intakes infront?

I'm glad I wanted watch this. I was concerned about how much height one of the fans would create when it's on the ram, and those are small ones! I need to be very careful when choosing a case (and ram, I don't feel like buying tall ones anyway).

Why would you install the cooler before the RAM? And why would you install the cooler outside of the case? That just makes it more difficult to put it in.

Hi. Can I use these high profile memories? www.geil.com.tw/products/showGallery/id/550 I've seen that the cpu cooler supports higher memories. Different from model ND14.

a little misleading. If you see the last fan, it's sitting higher than the other fan in order to clear the memory, and since those prongs on the heatsink just clear the case, that fan (in some cases) will not fit inside the case. In my case, I had to change the orientation of my heatsink..which means it will have to vent from the top (which is ok)

One fan was plugged to CPU PWM, what did you connect the other one to? Case PWM?

This is how did it. But it was a real pain to plug the power cable into the mobo. My case Corsair 4000D it fits np but man did I struggle, advice plug your power cable before installing this in your pc.
