• Wiring Harness: amzn.to/2MGvCJ4
• Radio Dash Kit: amzn.to/2FY0jc3

I literally just changed my head unit in my 2001 Honda Civic and you do (not) have to rip apart the middle console along with everything else. I just used trim tool to take out main radio ac unit then hooked everything up then slid it back in and done.

You only have to remove that center cover that gives u access to your securing bolts, the center console does not need to come off just that panel that the 12 socket comes out of.

You do realize that the metal sleeve that comes with the aftermarket radio has push tabs to secure the sleeve to the dash kit. Also the metro faceplate is used for different applications . When installing deck you should always use the faceplates from the unit itself.

I wish they used those push pins allover the car. They are so nice to work with. Taking out clips a lot of them break because they turn brittle over the years

Yep, speakers would help the sound for sure. I went with JBL GX series speakers rated at 2.3 ohms in place of my factory's odd 3 ohm speakers. Hooking the Kenwood head unit up to the factory premium amplified Toyota system using the 2.3 ohm JBL speakers definitely make enough bass and noise for me!

Clean install man! If you plan on adding a subwoofer in the future and don't want a huge sub box in your trunk. I would definitely recommend the Kenwood KSC-SW11 underseat sub (it's what I have for my es2) it's small enough to keep hidden and packs a nice bass punch.

Abnormal Garage. For what you unplugged, you actually don't have to unplug your battery, which would require you to reset your air bag system after plugging your battery back in. Also, for your car you don't need to remove the center console.

Yeah, didn't understand why he removed the center console unless to run cables to an amp in the trunk, which didn't seem to be the case.

Just got done installing a double din no name head unit in my son's 01 Civic sedan. I started removing the console like you did and couldn't figure it out. I removed the piece in front of the cup holders and it came out and I had access to the bolts underneath. My son's is a 5 speed manual, I don't know if that makes a difference. I find it nice that that the rear bracket is set up for a double din or regular. My wife's 05 Civic was an LX special edition and it had a factory JVC double din 6 disc cd so Honda must have seen into the future by making the bracket to accept a standard chassis head unit or a double din. My son's LX came out with the same Honda head unit with tape deck that yours has. Next up is removing the front bumper to put in a set of projector beam headlamp assemblies and get rid of the tow bar. In its prior life it was occasionally towed behind an RV. An old gentleman owned it and took really good care of it.

It was hard to see, but i think his console was popped out before. I believe there are around 8-9 clipps or brackets holding that console into place. Ive seen a different video of an old Civic. Check this video, its shows those clips. But i guess you either figured it out already or its still in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MN15Cs8I-c4.html

my 2002 Civic EX OEM radio has a security code on it that I have to enter anytime I disconnect the battery. I think that is so that no one would steal the radio back in the day, but just curious if that is also somehow tied into any security system or electronics (aside from the head unit) that would disable the car if I swapped radios? Thoughts? Otherwise, good video...you make it look easy.

I'm planning to replace my stereo in my civic, and I think I have everything I need but I do have one question. Why the new dash kit? I don't know shit about cars so I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need to get this done in one shot. Can I still change mine without the new dash kit or will I have problems? I also don't know where to find the right kind, if I do need one.
@AbnormalGarage
@AbnormalGarage 5 лет назад
Yes, you will need the dash install kit. Aftermarket head units don’t line up properly with the factory dash pieces. You could install the new head unit without the dash kit, but it would more than likely fall out when you’re driving, and you don’t want that to happen. I found my dash kit at Best Buy. They don’t typically have them on the shelves. You have to ask someone who works there, and they usually have them in back.
@raytrautman2570
@raytrautman2570 5 лет назад
@@AbnormalGarage awesome, thank you! Is there anything specific I need to get for it, or just a dash kit for an 01 Civic?
@AbnormalGarage
@AbnormalGarage 5 лет назад
You’ll just need the 2001-2005 dash kit and the wiring harness adapter. They should have both things at Best Buy. Other than that I’d say just some assorted tools to remove and install the radio, a soldering iron, solder, and some heat shrink for the wires. You should be able to see everything I used in the video. Good luck with your install!
@scottcarl9206
@scottcarl9206 4 года назад
I use Crutchfield on all my installs. They set you up with a wiring harness connector and in the case of this Civic install I did, a trim piece that fits around the head unit and dash unit. It looks like a factory install. My previous install was on a 01 Buick Century. I used Crutchfield again on that and it looked real nice as well. I also put speakers in the Buick . They supply you with adapter wiring harnesses so no spicing, all plug and play. Very happy with the company.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 you don’t have to remove the entire center console. For simplicity begin removing panels starting with the cigarette lighter piece around 4:40. Good video, but it’s removing your radio with extra steps 🤷🏽‍♂️

@AbnormalGarage
@AbnormalGarage 5 лет назад
The only thing the orange wire (illumination) would do is dim the aftermarket headunits backlight when you turned your headlights on, but since you can manually adjust your brightness on the new headunit, I figured there was no point in wiring it in.

@xelementzgaming7171 5 лет назад
Abnormal Garage I bought a 03 civic! But when I turn on the headlights my dash turns off. It came with a after market radio already in the car.. you think maybe the orange wire is connected and it has something to do with the dash turning off when I turn on my headlights??
