Great video as usual. Have these Fel Pro valve cover gaskets on my 65 with a BluePrint 306. I prefer to use studs for the valve covers instead of the standatd bolts. With the studs installed you can drop the gasket on and then the cover and keeps everything aligned. Also, we just fixed a leaky C4 tranny today on a 65 using your video. It was the reverse band case bolt and seal. Your links to the parts needed were spot on. Keep up the good work.

Awesome! Thank you I'm glad to hear they are helpful. Good tip on the valve cover studs too!

I have a 69 mustang grande- do you still suggest using no silicone for the gasket?

You're in Utah? My stang has a tired 289 in it. I'd love to rebuild or maybe upgrade someday.

@@AlfsMustangGarage It has some power... For it's age. I believe it was rebuilt in the 90s. I would love a 302 stroker or a Windsor. Something with some UMPFH. I've been looking at crate motors but its all $$$. 🤣

@atylerpearce well ya it's all money and the cost of machine work and parts and labor have all gone up. But a decent stroker can still be built pretty affordable I feel like. You're more than welcome to call the shop and we can talk about options and your car.

Can you use longer bolts if using load spreaders or those plug wire organizers? Never mind. You answered it in the video as soon as I ask the question. 😂

Im using the same gasket with edelbrock valve covers and having massive leaks from both covers. Should i just put rtv on the gaskets?

If you're having "massive leaks", its probably not something RTV can fix and you may have a bigger issue.

Great video as always. I have a stock mustang 289 C-code and going to put on new steel chrome valve covers. I’d like to use the load spreaders you show in the video, but not sure if I should use the stock length bolt. I know you use slightly longer ones, but not sure which ones. Any chance you could provide a part number for the slightly longer bolts? I guess I could remove a bolt, and head down to the hardware store to get one that is slightly longer. Also, is there anything obvious (other than cleaning things) that I should do while valve covers are off? I have a engine tick, should I bother trying to diagnose that?

Well taking a bolt with me to the hardware store is exactly what i did! Nothing wrong with that at all. Other than just checking for any loose rockers. If you have a ticking noise, that is a thing you should figure out. Problem with noises, is they can be very tricky to locate. Lifters, exhaust leaks, valves, timing chains, all these things can be responsible. Try to narrow down the location from side to side and front to back.

is it true the '67 and earlier valve covers won't clear the later rocker assembly?
