Love your work Skyler. If you don't mind a suggestion, if you make your stop block exactly one inch thick, the any desired cut can be made by adding one inch to that measurement. If you want a two inch piece, set the fence at three inches, etc. This eliminates trial and error or math mistakes. I have had mine for years.

Love the work you are doing. Awesome.!!! When using the stop block, move it up parallel to the blade and then measure the one inch or what ever the width of the board is. Then move it back, clamp it as you did, move the wood up to the block, then cut it.

I do something similar for making segmented rings for turning on the lathe, I can see doing things like this for turning as well. One thing I do that could be usefull for you to add is on the saw blade cover I have an angled piece on the off cut side of the blade, so that when the piece is cut off it drops down the slope away from the blade and the small parts are blocked from getting back to the blade, it allows me to cut qite a few pieces before I need to stop the saw to gather them up. I also use a much wider block on the fence, like what you are using, this gives me more space for the cut off pieces. This is the first of your videos for me to see, I shall take some time and watch your others, it looks like you do some very nice work.

And, using a stop block reduces the chances of kickback. It would attach to the fence and the fence would have to be moved the same amount equal to the width of the stop block.

Hi Skyler, love the video but how do you glue everything together? A square or rectangular board is relatively easy, clamp the sides to get a tight fit and over the top to prevent bowing but how do you do that with a hexagonal block made of many small shapes? I looked for a video showing how you did the next stage but couldn’t see one, any chance you could make one?

Hi This was an excellent and well elaborated presentation. This a work of art. I will definitely try to copy your instructions. After I get the pieces how do I attach them together? Do I glue them? I like to copy your other finished item on your left. It would be nice if you show how you make the final work. If I learn how to put them together like you did , I like to pour epoxy on them. What do you think ? I appreciate your in put. I must say you are an artist.
@buddyreed2623
@buddyreed2623 Месяц назад
First time here. This was interesting. As I watched, you said you would have to cut two or three pieces and then stop the saw to remove the cut pieces so they would not get caught in the blade. Could an arm be attached to the sliding board to pull the cut pieces out and fall into a bucket? The piece that actually pulls the pieces out would need to be smaller than the pieces you cut. The design is for you to determine. Have good days!

Hey Skyler, Pat here from outside of Toronto Canada. I’d like to try this but I think I’ll use some pine and cedar for my first attempt. I have both on hand and they are less expensive than the hard woods. I’m interested to know how you go about gluing all these small pieces together…..and the clamping must be a nightmare?!?!
@flashwashington2735
@flashwashington2735 6 месяцев назад
Some make clamping jigs. Some use band clamps. Some glue up extra pieces, to make it square, build a rectangular, clamping frame. Then cut to final shape. One makes boards with thin edge strips, like edge band then clamp in three directions. If Skylar gets back to you, we'll see what she does.
@woodworkingwithSkyler
@woodworkingwithSkyler 6 месяцев назад
I am going to be honest. Trying to glue this is a pain. The trivet I did in class we used two 6 in hose metal clamps linked together to clamp it. The first one I did at home I first glued it on small sections and then glued the sections together. That was a mistake as the dried squeezed out glue was in the way creating gaps between section and you need to send that away without removing any wood material. The second one I did I glued all together at once and use a strap clamp. Pieces moved a bit and tried to move everything in place as good as I could but still had to fill some tiny gaps with glue and sawdust.

As far as glue ups, depending what your end result, I have tried with failure, just using new rubber bands. This allows you to figure how much pressure you use. I love the idea making some extra jigs to clamp everything. If your trying this exact project. You maybe on to something. For what I a trying to do. I believe it’s close but not same. I may have more or less tolerances that you.
