It might take a few fills to properly soak everything. Have u tested the rope under a tap just to see? It might be coated in a repellent maybe?

HI rob. I havent had any issue with the soil in contact with the moss. However I have had an issue in one where i put some aroid mix higher in the pole. That seems to draw water into the pot. My others are fine, they dont draw down into the soil at all. My siltipecana roots are crazy in th moss. The verrucosum aerial roots have also grown into the moss but not as deep as the siltipecana. But that makes sense given the difference between the monstera species and philodendron species

Would u believe I never took a pic before I cut it up 😆 it had reached the top and then I cut it. I left the tip cut attached to the pole for awhile and a month or so ago pulled the top of the pole apart and replanted the tip back down the bottom with the base plant. The tip cut didn’t miss a beat

@@antonfilimonov9131 ah yes sorry. I can be a bit slack. It stays wetter than any other poles I have but you can fill every day or every week etc, it all depends just how wet you want it to stay. The back of it keeps it moist longer

Hi the one I use as demo in the video has been on the pole since December 2020 I think. I have moved it up a pot size in that time and moved the plant and pole together. If I was to remove the plant from the pole I imagine I would have to lay it down, cut the ties holding the gutter guard and then clip the gutter guard away from the roots. I would probably only do this if I wanted to cut my plant up and propagate it with the already established roots at each node. Unfortunately this type of pole cannot be extended so yes this is one drawback so u do have to consider if it meets your needs.

The one i used to demo in the video with the el salvador on it was a year old with no mould issues. ive since pulled it apart to cut up my plant and reused the moss in another pole. all still in great condition.

I hvent used anything else. COuld you get a friend and split it? You get 3 poles per sheet

​@@valleriakirkwood2038anything that holds moss would work, even plastic sheet, pond liner, tarp etc, but some materials will be porous and allow moss to dry out faster.

Sorry to hear. No I haven’t had this issue. I have pulled the one we made in this video apart to cut up the plant and remade it. There wasn’t any smell

⁠@@plantsdownunder7634I swear, I’m tempted to plan a trip to Australia 50% because I have always wanted to visit the country but also 50% because it seems Bunnings has the best plant supplies ever that we have a hard time sourcing (or sourcing from an affordable and reliable party or store) here in the US. I would hit Bunnings every day and STOCK UP as much as possible on the polycarbonate sheeting from this video and all of the various sized clear pots that The Leca Queen used in her videos from Bunnings!!!

Sometimes we use plumbers adhesive. I didn’t in this one and it doesn’t leak but we do it sometimes just in case

She reached the top and we've cut her up now. The top cut is still secure to the pole, carrying on growing so have to remove it somehow soon lol

I havent used other substrate in it but you could try with the aroid mix and see how that goes.

@@plantsdownunder7634 Will try experiment. Reason for replacement i hate Fungus Gnats and they love Sphagnum moss. Hehehe

Ive never weighed it. I have a bag of 500g and no i don't think i would use over 200g for the pole.

She grew to the top of the pole. I then cut her up and left the top chunk on the pole for awhile. I recently pulled the top part of the pole apart and pulled the cut off. She’s now replanted in the pot with the base plant ready to grow up the pole again.

Maybe you can try those clear plastic shelf liners you can get from Ikea and Amazon, they're quite inexpensive. It's less stiff than polycarbonate sheeting, so it will also probably need some kind of stake zip tied to it for more structure.

Ours was just cotton.

Cotton will eventually rot. Venetian blind cord would work well and last much longer. Also available in different widths at Bunnings.

oh i am sad to hear its not working for you. the moss should be wet when you make it and you might need to top it up a few times for it to wet the moss enough
