Started swimming again in March 2023 after 20 years out the pool. I use to swim for my high school team. First day I could only manage 6 laps. Every month I increased the distance. 1000 yards, 1500 yards, 1750 yards and now 2000 yards every workout/80 laps in a 25 meter pool. Sometimes I do 2500 yards/100 laps. Swimming has helped me physically and mentally. The best shape of my life all thanks to swimming.

I’m back too. It took twenty years to be able to swim again after a disabling injury that left me in terrible pain and bed bound for years. I started back slowly eighteen months ago, but have now fully relapsed to competitive swimming. I swam my first breaststroke race in fifty years when I swam at the NE Masters Championship this year. BTW : I love the MySwimApp. I did the 1 mile open water plan this spring

I been swimming as exercise everyday now for the past 1 month. My endurance and technique has improved marginally, however, I’m still the slowest person at the entire pool. Even though my main goal is exercise, I can’t help but feel embarrassed that I can barely keep up with some old lady on a kick board (no disrespect to old ladies on kick boards, I’m sure you were all great swimmers when you were young). I think I need a coach

I'm a slow swimmer too even though I've been doing it (a 20+ year break from lap swimming aside) my whole life, and even though I've always been good at distance. I'll share the following in case it helps. When I first got back into lap swimming last summer, I did it for health reasons. There's motivation in this all around us. A) I'm back to enjoying scuba diving, which is also something I took a break from for many years. B) I now get to be grumpy when I might not get to swim on any given occasion because I now enjoy exercise for the first time in my life! I never understood that feeling before - as I so often heard it expressed in my youth from my brother, the annoyingly good natural athlete. Feels good to relate to that now! C) Although I'm not the fastest swimmer, I have improved all my times across the board, so progress! D) I'm 65 pounds down from last summer, and I've lost 12 inches from my waist. My improved mental and physical health is a big motivator for me now. Plus, it doesn't suck to get complimented on how I currently look in a bathing suit.

I was never a true swimmer. I mostly did it for fitness, but not very good. Fast forward 30* years. I retired a few weeks ago and my plan was to work out and swim, consistently, That is the key. I am 70 years old and with the help of this channel and a coupe of others, I have made a commitment to do just that. So thank you so much!

Makes me think of the 'Resolutioners' as the life guards at my pool call them. Just about every pool and exercise club gets a surge of new members at new years time. In a month or two, 90% of them are gone. Another case of trying to do too much at once....
