#Aquarium #Aquarium #Filter DIY external aquarium filter using a jar How To Make: DIY Hang On Back Filter Aquarium Filter How to build DIY external filter media from plastic jar and submersible pump
Nice vid. Im a fun of any diy filter but i love also to see the pump outside the filter itself since the space is very small. I would love to fill it with much more important media in layers. I think thats the idea of diy filter. Cheap cost & efficient
The method is totally incorrect. The first stage of filtration should be sponge then it should be floss, then it has to be media (ceramic rings, lava rocks, unzan stone etc). Here the inlet pipe is directly reaching ceramic rings. In that case the steps I told should be reversed. Media like ceramic rings is not for filtration of minute dust particles it's for breaking down ammonia. The more media, greater filtration because the bacteria housing will be far more greater in number. I feel he did do the project with excellent skills but with no product knowledge. Literally product knowledge is 0.
I'm all for DIY projects but this seems like the cost of all the parts would be greater by far then just buying a filter. I can buy a filter for cheaper then the container itself.
I have been told by a plumber, that 90-degree elbows cause more than twice the restriction of water flow compared to 2 45 degree turns. Lava rock is a cheaper medium here in the U.S,
Hello, do you know what that connector is called that allows the wire into the filter and stops water coming out? Or do you know if there's a better way of doing it?
That's how most external canister filters work. Leaving all the heavy sediment at the bottom then polishing the water on the way up. As you can see the pump is connected to the outlet pipe pulling all the water up through the bio media and then the sponge. In an ideal situation you would have course sponge, lots of bio media then a fine polishing pad.
If I make my own do-it-yourself filter what is being used to put the water back into the tank and what is being used to take the water back out of the tank I know it's in a water pump But is the water pump being used to put water back into the tank or to take water out of the tank and put into the filter
No become the filter is higher than aquarium so the water level in filter will settle at aquarium water level, try it out with 2 glasses of water and a u bent straw
As long as you properly solder and insulate the wires back together it wont be a problem. I noticed he used electric tape for the insulation, but a tidier and more water proof method would be to use some heat shrink with some silicone grease squirted inside of the heat shrink before you shrink it.
You almost did it. But now you have this big ugly thing hanging on the back of a rimless tank. You may have thought about using clear tubing. A fir effort but a bit sloppy. More thought should have went in to the mechanicals filtering. It’s best to make compartments.
