How to Make Drippy Corn Tek (E-Z Popcorn Grain Spawn) 

My guys told me someone actually put out a Drippy Corn video that was spot on, and I had to come and see for myself. Good job PGT! You included the entire tek, there werent any parts missing. Even though you didnt use the vermiculite, you at least talked about it. So, kudos brother. Ive only seen a couple other Drippy Corn videos, and they were always missing parts of the actual tek, you included it all. Also, youre the only one to give credit to @Stunnin21 for creating the Drippy Cork Tek!. I appreciate not only the shoutout to him, but to me as well 😁 I had very little to do with the creation of the tek (helped with the sterilization run time, adapted it to feed corn, and now in the process of adapting it to an instapot tek) but I appreciate the time and effort to include us on your video. I dont know that Stunnin21 does RU-vid, he is mainly an IG guy, but I will make sure to send him a link to this video. Keep on keeping on my guy 🤘 Edit: a few notes for the viewers. 1) Its not about infusing the corn with your glucose supplement, merely coating the kernels. 2) It is recommended that you use whatever glucose source you are already using in your LC and agar. Its about providing the mycelium with a familiar food source, which eliminates its adaptation phase to the grain, and hastens colonization. We call this the "jump off". 3) The amount to add to your kernels during the forced hydration phase is 1/4 cup per 4lbs of grain 4) The grains only need to dry for about 30min. You dont want them dry, you actually want them a bit wetter than you would want with other grain teks. 5) The implementation of vermiculite is a key part to this tek, and why you want your grains somewhat wet when you jar/bag them. Although the vermiculite does help regulate the moisture in your jars/bags, one of its main purposes is to retain moisture for the mycelium to utilize during its colonization. This helps keep your grains hydrated for the spawn to bulk phase, as the mycelium robs moisture from the vermiculite instead of from the grains, making your "jump off" from the grains to the sub hastened as well, since the grains are sufficiently hydrated and already primed to be the food source for colonizing the fruiting block "cake". 6) The sterilization phase is a 2.5hr run, not 90min. The elongated sterilization run guarantees all the endospores are dead and your grains to be 100% sterilized. If done properly you will likely never get another tam at the grain phase, as long as your inoculant is clean. This tek, by far, has the lowest rate of contamination of any grain tek Ive tried, and Ive tried damned near all of them. 7) I wouldnt suggest deer corn, rather feed corn. Deer corn has toxins in it that does not make them ideal for this application, deer corn contain Aspergillus Flavus & Aspergillus parisiticus which produce a toxin called Aflatoxin. So, feed corn, not deer corn. 8) If you happen to use feed corn (which I highly recommend, since a 50lb bag goes for about $10), there is one modification to the tek to accommodate for this change. Feed corn is an open ended grain as opposed to popcorn. When youre performing the forced hydration phase, instead of PCing for 20min, just bring the PC up to 15psi, and then kill the heat and let depressurize naturally. Do not run it for 20min. This will still sufficiently hydrate your kernels, but will not make them mushy. Thats is it, thats the only difference for this tek in using feed corn as opposed to popcorn.

Hey thanks for that video. Have you ever tried using corn syrup with brown rice or another type of grain, instead of using popcorn? I'm going to try brown rice cooked for 10 mins with corn syrup. Come to think of it, that gives me an idea. You could do an Ultimate 'Drippy' Grain Experiment for Mycology.😁 To see what spawns and fruits first, and then compare total yields.

Ok so real quick. When you placed the jars in the Pc to sterilize the jars. Do you put water inside the pressure cooker? How much? And how do I keep water from getting into my vents on the jars. I’m using an insta pot also

How long you do the steaming withOUT a pressure cooker. I have a stock pot and an instant pot. IP will pnly fit two maybe three masons in it.

I believe it should be three or four tablespoons of corn syrup, unless I’m missing something. Most shot glasses are 1.5oz, some are 2. Two tablespoons equal one ounce I believe.

I've been soaking and simmering popcorn to hydrate it. Is there an advantage to pressure cooking it instead, before putting it in jars? Also do you think the corn syrup would increate the risk of contam?

Popcorn seems to be pretty resistant to contaminants, I only run 12 psi for 15 min and have never had any contam issues

I followed your wood substrate video and my pressure cooker melted a couple of holes in both. bags on my first attempt, I got the substrate into un pasturized bags due to the holes but should I not inoculate it and wait do. you think to see If it contaminates? I just made some drippy corn and inoculated it today with PE LC. Praying i see fast colonization like yours. Thanks for a explaining this in a simple easy to follow way. ❤ Update: My jars have been doing awesome. After one week they are about 25% colonized and that’s with a PE liquid culture and only using about 2 ccs in each quart jar. Very happy with this tek. Just started making 4 more quart jars to inoculate with another strain. 😊

So the mycelium has a taste for corn... Corn syrup , popcorn kernels... How about a corn syrup liquid culture too....hmmm 🤔. Popcorn spawn is basically all I use, sometimes I mix it with other grains doing a grain to grain transfer. I haven't tried with the addition of corn syrup, maybe when colder temperatures get here and the spawn slows down, I wonder if this extra nutrients will speed up slow colonization during the colder months?

Would be really interested if you tested Organic vs non-organic spawn. Wonder if there could be any chemical pesticide/herbicide/fungicide etc in or on the grain that could subtly inhibit the fungi growth. Obviously organic is much more expensive. But it’d be interesting to see. Within gardening/farming, many find that non-organic wheat straw can have herbicide contamination which greatly inhibits crop growth the first year or two after it’s applied as a soil mulch. Have you ever thought about this or tried using organic grains? Thanks for your videos!

Do you think making all in one bags would be an advantage to avoid contams if we don’t have a laminar flow good, as we don’t have to open the bag again after sterilization? We can just inoculate through an injection port after they cool? Or do you think that they present other disadvantages? How would you make them?

I have been thinking of doing a liquid culture of the Tampanisis something that makes the blue truffle, and knocking up granola bars using the 90 second uncle Ben tek! Snip a corner shoot enough culture to saturate and grow in one step and when it's done you just eat it like it was ment to be!

How about canned creamed corn? It's got water, sugar and grain, and it's been pressure cooked so it should be sterile. Might have to drain off some of the fluid first.

How long could a grain spawn jar sit before innoculation? I know doing it a day later is ideal, but have you gone longer than that? @phillygoldenteacher
