Awesome set of corn hole boards! Love the dramatic cinematic ending between you and Utz! Best Corn hole video on RU-vid so far! I've made a few and used the kreg jig for the pocket holes on the frame, I found that works really well and you can dismember them if you ever need to!

As a guy that used to work at Lowe's, don't buy the precut ply wood unless you have to. Two precut 2*4 sheets costs as much as a whole sheet. It's literally twice as much. Can even ask them to cut it for you at the store. And cool project turned out nice! And thank you for your service 🇺🇲

I’ve heard people say they don’t cut the wood right? Can you confirm
@Frankengruvin
@Frankengruvin 4 года назад
@@_Ranger01_ You have to watch them do it. Sometimes it's just a guy whose task is to cut a bunch of 4x8 sheets down to 4x4 - by the way the saw kerf removes at least 1/8" so it's not a true 4x4 once they cut it - but the dude isn't always perfect. It just depends on how bad you really accuracy. If you buy the full sheet and watch them cut it you can be your own quality control.

This is a great tutorial! I've made 2 sets of these now, learning a bunch each time. Here's what I learned the hard way! I routed my channels for the led's to be 1 inch wide for looks, and 1/2 inch deep. On 2 boards, I used a solid gallon of epoxy. On the second set, I kept my channels at 1/2 wide by 1/2 inch deep and cut my epoxy use in half. To secure my side boards, I used hot glue instead of silicone and screws, and this worked out fine - no screw holes to fill later. I also used hot glue to secure the led strip lights instead of super glue, and the hot glue let go in a couple of spots after the epoxy was poured. The strips turned sideways in a few spots, but still looks ok, and was only a problem in 1 of 4 boards. More hot glue would've helped. Standard 1 gallon windshield washer jugs also work to seal the center hole, but remove the labels. I overlooked this and was left with the paper label stuck to the inside of 2 holes. Removing the excess epoxy overflow with sandpaper is tiresome. A cheap oscillating multi-tool with a flex scraper works great for the high spots and a hand plane gets the rest before finally sanding it smooth. I didn't have the white pearlescence to die my epoxy, so I sanded the top with 220 grit and this gave a cool "hazy" look and hides the details of the led strips without sacrificing too much light. Finally, after routing the led channels, I used wood glue and a 15 gauge nail gun to build the frame and secure the top. Screws worked great too, but the nails leave a much smaller hole to fill when done and are much faster than drilling, countersinking, and driving screws a couple dozen times. I hope this helps someone else on this adventure!

A couple years ago I made some mini golfing platforms for my son to use that have an led strip hooked up to an arduino and a sensor in the hole. When you get the ball in the hole it lights a pattern on the strip and plays a little melody. I've had trouble keeping the led strip attached to the platform, but your design makes me want to try this again using epoxy instead of just glue. Thanks.

Also, when you used the 6" plastic vinegar bottle to contain the resin for the center hole did you use silicon to create a seal and if so, was the silicon easy to remove from the resin after curing and hardening? Thanks!

They're super convenient and eliminate the hassle of having to play near electrical outlets or use extension cables the DC powered light strips require. Both light types are around the same price on Amazon just make sure you search 'USB powered LED light strip" Hope that helps and good luck.

What I ended up doing was finding a small rechargable car jump pack for each board that had a DC out port. Mine happen to be voltage adjustable from 5 to 20 volts output I believe. It works pretty well with the only downside being I have to have the lights set pretty bright so that the pack detects the draw and doesn't shut off automatically. Reduces the battery life but still plenty enough for a whole weekend of play. Edit: Now that I think about it though you can probably use a battery pack for a phone and splice a USB connector onto the power wires from the lights. That is if you don't need/want the lights super bright. Most of the time they're fixed at a 5V output. Edit 2: If you were wondering, I got mine from Wal-Mart on sale a while back. I found this repose below "Third Coast Craftsman 1 month ago Hi Rick yes I did buy 2 separate packs and I plugged them in to extension cords. I looked up battery packs that you can plug them into but just saved my money for now and used extension cords"

If you click the link to the led strip he uses it says they are plug in strips. So each strip is likely powered by an extension cord.

Nice build Gives me some ideas. Did you power the LED with batteries?

I have the same question about powering the LEDs. Hope he can do a follow video and explain.

They are plugged in to an extension cord but you could buy battery packs

Wish you could have spent more time explaining the routing and light connections. I really want to do this but am a little confused. I have never used a router and the routing of the hole was like 2 seconds of the video. Don't get me wrong it was a great video just wish it was a little more in depth

rob baaahaha I dont blame him for ignoring this comment. However I definitely don't blame you for saying it. I just made some cornhole boards and spent 20 minutes pulling and straightening only to find out they were also twisted.

lowes just resells stuff, it's not like they cut down the trees, ran them through the mill and kiln dried them. complain to the lumbercompany, their name is stamped on most plywood. in other words dont' kill the messenger, or in this case the reseller.
@TheCentralflorida

regardless of blame his point remains true.

PhotoBooth biz isn't that the case for all their products? They don't make anything. They just sell it. Doesn't excuse them from poor lumber quality at times.
