When my daughter was young she did everything with me and still talks about it today at 43 years old. Some of the best times you can spend with your child. The eggs look good also. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this easy recipe. Someone in the neighborhood recently closed their deli shop and decided to donate a bunch of food, including dozens of pre-peeled hardboiled eggs to our local homeless shelter where I work and volunteer. We don't know what to do with all these eggs but want to do something before they expire. I'm definitely gonna try this easy pickling recipe for part of the donation. Thanks again! :)
A bit of vinegar in the water when you're boiling the eggs will set the membrane just under the shell and hold the whites in, just in case they bump together and crack the shell while boiling, too. I love these in potato salads and egg salad sandwiches. I'll try your recipe, but I'm so lazy sometimes, I just hoard store bought pickle juice and use that over boiled eggs! Especially Bread and Butter Pickles with some jalapeno slices. Thanks for this simple idea!
Malt Vinegar is best for pickled eggs it’s what my grandmother always used and when I was older most of the local pubs used malt Vinegar too, A favourite way to have one at a pub and you rarely see it today is to buy a bag of crisps/chips and a pickled eggs pop the egg in the bag and enjoy , My Gran never added anything to her eggs but she kept them in a cool dark cupboard until she judged them to be ready and they were always delicious sometimes the old fashioned ways are the best ways I think.
Add bay leaves and simmer the stuff before you pour it over the eggs.Let cool before refrigerating.Allow to " pickle" for 14 days. Then get you a case of beer, throw some stuff on the grill and sit back and snack on the picked eggs and drink beer. After a while you will rip out the most raucous farts in your life. Just smile............life is good !
Adding hot brine solution changes the texture of the eggs. It makes them more rubbery. I would let the brine cool completely before adding. And , yes, beer and pickled egg farts can curl your nose hairs! lol :)
Thank you for this video. I want to say that including your daughter in the video made me really enjoy the video more. Made the video seem much more friendly and down to earth. It has now made me want to try your recipe and a pickled egg for the first time. Very user friendly.
Cool, I appreciate you putting the recipe you used at the end so I don't have to go back. Thanks!! I'll give these a try. I think I'm going to throw in a little mustard seed too. Sounds tasty!!
I made the 5-4-2019 they are great. When I was a kid many many moons ago I had these. Now I can make them any time I want. Thank you so much. Oh and I also did carrots. GREAT
Awesome. Hope they're what you want. It's been 16 months that I've been nursing this 48 egg batch. I'm deliberately going slow to see how the flavor changes over time. I've moved from the gallon jug to just an old quart jug.
You did a great job with this video. I am making a dozen eggs now as I write this. You also sound like a great dad getting your daughter into the action. Many thanks!
That’s how I make pickled egg plant . It’s one of the most traditional Persian pickles and it to die for . Cut up two unpeeled eggplants bite size Boil 2 cups of apple cider vinegar , add the eggplants, salt , turmeric ,pepper , lciok until softened Let cool . While cooking add Cilantro , parsley , a bit of dill weed, mint ( or any other herbs you have around ) . fresh chopped garlic , green pepper. Add to egg plant , and let it sit in a cool place one night ( cover with a paper towel in case ) the air will picket it faster Jar it and add more vinegar to cover the eggplants . Ready to eat ! .
Very good video, straight to the point & very good & tasty recipe. thanks for posting. thank your little helper too! my family enjoyed this video & recipe
I just love no fuss pickling methods and yours is :) .. So thankz so much for sharing .. Going to make them now :) .. Just love pickled eggs .. Thankz Again :)
The nice thing about this hard boil method is its hard to overcook the eggs. But I find it easier and faster to bring the water to a boil and (very gently) place the eggs in cold, straight from the refrigerator. Leave water boiling. Cook 10 minutes. Then immediately drain and place in ice bath. Perfect hard boiled eggs.
I just put this brine together and dude... the flavor is absolutely ridiculous! I cannot wait for these to be done. I had about 3 or 4 more different recipes I was going to try from other RU-vidrs but those recipes are getting deleted right now. A+++
That toothpick trick is a great idea. I'm definitely gonna give that a try on my next batch. I was surprised that you didn't boil the mix, but that seems like a nice, simple way of getting it done.
The pickled eggs recipe I grew up with were made with beets. Gave the eggs a purple hue to them. Never tried them this way before, I think I'll give it a shot.
Not trying to throw cold water on this, because the recipe looks great. The CDC web site hosts and article about a man who became violently ill because he pricked his pickled eggs with toothpicks. The commentary on the articles states: "Pricking, poking holes, or otherwise handling whole eggs in a manner that might allow spores or bacteria into the yolk should be avoided." And yes, I know this video is old, but I just ran across it looking for recipes in 2017, so I assume others will too. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4934a2.htm
I think they just feel the need to boil. I"m still working on this 4 dozen batch. Maybe next batch I'll try boiling....to see for myself. To me, these taste great and it's simple. Boiling would also really stink up the house. Thanks for watching!
A tip for boiling the eggs. Add white vinegar whille boiling. This will proactively seperate the membrane of the egg from the shell. When you peel them, they will come off very fast.
All the bars i used to frequent had a pickeled egg jar and a pickeled pigs feet jar on the counter...they stayed there a long time....not a bad snack occasionally...they were pickeled
The Jar is a 1 gallon jar used for pickles...costs about $4 at Sam's club full of pickles. I did 4 dozen in this video. The recipe at the end is for a 1 quart jar and 12 eggs.
I have been looking for quite a while now around RU-vid for a good recipe for these! Man, this looks so good! Thank you:) If these were "canned" in jars do you think the vinegar would "overpower" them after a certain amount of time and maybe wouldn't be good for "long-term" storage? They wouldn't be refrigerated if canned. Thanks:)
Good job Dad , and the recipe looks first class also. I love pickled eggs fresh or in a recipe. I also will try it with vac pack jar (maybe done/pickled quicker? ). Good idea on the toothpick. jim
This is very close to how i make pickled eggs...I have a universal vacuum lid from foodsaver I use to draw a vacuum on the jar and the eggs seem to pickle a lot faster (couple days) as well as marinating meats etc. Going to try the toothpick deal.
I still have half a jar of these in my refriderator (from this batch)...that's already about 3 months. The Jars at the bar are usually a lot brinier and they're consumed at a faster rate than in my house. Good luck!
