We decided to stack our LG front load washer and dryer and build a laundry center in our new mud room. In order to stack the dryer, I had to install a side venting kit to allow for proper venting and space to accommodate the cabinets and sink...etc. In my search I came across market ready kits in excess of $120! I was able to find some on Amazon for cheaper, but I thought the material that is used is so inexpensive, so why not DIY the side venting kit, so I did.
In this video I show you the materials and tools I used as well as the measurements to convert my back venting dryer to a side venting dryer.
The process is fairly simple, you need some patience as you wiggle your way inside the dryer to attach the new side venting kit, but other than that it's fairly straight forward.
I am very happy with the result and I saved over $100 in the process. I hope you find this video helpful. Please remember to disconnect your dryer from electricity when working on it.
Thank you

You can attach and tape the elbow to the exit duct, then put it in.

Sure you can, if you have space for it and don’t mind the look.

I can only get at my GE back vent by removing the screw holding the back vent in place. The is no additional steel assembly surrounding the back vent hole to give me extra room to work. If I knock out the right side vent cap(the side I want to vent from), it may give me extra working space. How do I remove the right side knock out? Do I simply use a hammer and some sort of chisel and knock it in, or is there more to it?

Yep, just knock it out.

How far from the wall is the stackable unit once complet?

I don’t think there is a set measure. In my case I was about a foot. It really depends on your situation. You can connect flexible duct to the sleeve to expand it. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching 👊🏼

To clarify, is the elbow the only thing that you needed to purchase?

I used an elbow and a 4” extension piece.

I’m so confused. Maybe I have to watch a few times. But I have to figure it out. Mine vents out the back and I don’t understand why they put the hole so far up unless they used the side vent. I can’t afford the kit!

Are you having difficulty connecting the duct inside the dryer? Not sure I understand.

you didnt tape the sections together - once air is past thru vent it will start to come apart

Very valid comment. If I had room to tape I would have certainly done so as an added security. It is only one joint though and it’s located right past the secured elbow duct, so I am hoping with the snug fit of the elbow and extension piece that it will stay put. Also, the venting force isn’t as high as that of an HVAC system. I also got my washer and dryer on wheels, so it wouldn’t be too hard to get back there once in a while to check on things. Very valid point though. Thanks for watching 👊🏽
