Great video! Definitely an important and practical skill for any professional waiter to have. There is nothing worse than everyone hearing a loud pop while opening a case of Veuve for a toast while someone is giving an important speech. I have since moved on in careers, but when my wife and I do order a bottle, I usually challenge our waiters to open it silently. If they've never done it, I walk them through it.

Needed to open a champagne bottle in the middle of the night, but this was too complex for me

Otherwise for the 1st timers, simply unscrew the cage off and throw it away, shake the bottle for a second as much as u can and place it on the floor and run

Haha I have been there! I once drove a case of champagne up a mountain in an ATV I was opening each one like I was refusing a bomb.

thats not the right way to do; you should hold the bottle at the bottom and at an angle of ~45° and then, while twisting the bottle forth and back simply hold the cork calmly and stable - looks much better and this way you will open it smoothly and without any splashing or popping EVERY TIME!

His right should be on the widest part of the bottle not the neck. More torque at the widest part, less turning.

If you are using gloves this is not practical as the bottom of the bottle will be damp or wet. I know that is indeed how the French do it. But personally I think it is rather showy. It is not hard to open so I don't feel the need for extra torque. I wish to open it quietly with no one noticing me so I endeavor to hide my actions from the guests.

Noooooooooo, do not remove the cage!
@RossetBespokeButlers

Why not? I think it looks smarter and it is easier to grip.

@@RossetBespokeButlers Because there is a chance the cork may pop at the moment you are not holding/covering it. Such a moment is inevitable when removing the cage.

@@bennygeypens it is possible and if you wish to stay on the safe side then feel free to leave on the cage. but I have opened 1000's of bottles and this had never happened to me. The bottle must be correctly chilled and not shaken as this would make it a lot more likely to behave differently.

@@bennygeypens I have never seen a cork fly off on its own just from taking the cage off and I drink Champagne and Sparkling Wine often.
