How to Overcome FATIGUE With Ulcerative Colitis
In this video I discuss the many reasons as to why you might be suffering with overwhelming fatigue whilst living with either Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis (Inflammatory bowel disease) and more importantly, what you can do about it.
The topics I cover in this video include: Gut bacteria, a damaged intestinal lining, being stuck in a sympathetic nervous state, dysfunctional mitochondria, medication and nutrition.

You do good work Sir thanks. I have taken most of your advice except for Coffee (no Sugar) and the magnesium. I'll remedy this forthwith. The fatigue at present is killer and I'm not getting enough exercise, I was going to wait until I felt better but obviously that's a a mistake, cheers. You'll get your reward in Devon....8)

Cheers for watching James and thanks for your kind words, super appreciated mate! Yeah coffee is a tough one to give up, maybe a switch to decaf could help to begin with? Just movement on the whole, it doesn't need to be strenuous, will help massively. But I do think the gut microbiome ultimately holds the key as to whether we're loaded up with energy or not

Since my diagnosis 8 years ago fatigue has always been a part of my day-to-day but not as bad as the past year or so. Being in the worst flare since the diagnosis, my energy levels are very low most of the time. Inflammation, anemia...it’s been hard. I’m getting better but still not a 100%. Trying hard to slowly eliminate medications (prednisone) out of my daily routine and also integrating moderate exercise, vitamins D and B complex and probiotics. I take biologics and I don’t know if i’ll be able to get rid of it one day but getting prednisone out of my way is my #1 priority right now. Thanks for all this precious info Chris 🙂

Thanks for sharing all of that here Celine, I understand how tough it can be. Really all fatigue is, is a sign of a body that's under stress from multiple different avenues (even if the stress isn't visible to us). I always tell people they need to be a detective of their own past and what go back to what happened around the time when they first started experiencing symptoms. Meds are a strange one, they get your body reliant on them until you understand what function they're playing, I agree with you though pred is a particularly hard one to learn how to come off of. No worries happy to share what I know!

Yeah I have UC and I take a magnesium bath as often as I can. It makes a big difference for my muscles and maybe even more importantly I feel much more at ease mentally within 20 minutes/ half an hour. The effects usually last a day and I wish I could take this bath every other day but can’t afford it financially. But even a footbath does help, so I definitely agree there. Great advice! And the cortisol thing is something I’ve noticed for years but never related it to the inflamation, great info! Thanks! I personally have been off medication (since it didn’t help) for over a decade and managed to heal the last big ulcer by waterfasting and changing my diet. But last few years it’s really been my joint and fatigue and stress levels that’s been bothering me. I will maybe look into probiotics 🙋‍♀️🍀 May anyone suffering heal up soonest!

Fatigue has been dehabilitating when in a bad flare, and also when I started imuran. I felt very tired when going on 75mg, but then felt so much better when going down to 50mg, now I'm at 25mg and fatigue is much less despite having active symptoms at the moment. Even this morning I feel quite tired, I suspect its because it's been raining all week so haven't been taking my daily walks. But it just stopped and I'll be taking your advice and going out for a walk 👍. I get out a lot on the weekends and amazed at how much I can do with loads of energy, compared to the weekdays when I'm quite sedentary and feel tired. Also I think artificial flourescent light in office buildings affects me negatively and makes me tired

Something I'll add - I was always incredibly fatigued during high school way before IBD diagnosis, and could barely get through the day. Now I realise this was probably due to being inside too much, anxiety, stress, malnutrition and poor microbial diversity. So my energy levels right now are probably the best they've ever been since primary school.

Super interesting George thanks for sharing that with us here mate! I definitely think weather has a big part to play with energy levels and also artificial lighting suppressing melatonin production in the body will negatively effect energy levels so yeah I agree office buildings encourage that.. also they encourage a sedentary lifestyle in the majority of cases - literally everything to train your body to become more disconnected with nature. Microbial diversity is everything when it comes to those with no energy vs those with loads!

Can you pls do a how to sleep with a bag i can’t get comfy at night in bed ?
@ChrisGascoigne1
@ChrisGascoigne1 3 года назад
I think because it's so early days for you Michelle, you probably still feel pretty bruised from the op. Other than that the only thing I would say is I've found it most comfortable to sleep on my side, hurled up in a ball most nights. Also eating solid foods right before going to bed isn't always the best idea, as you'll need to empty the stoma in the middle of the night. I try to eat a few hours before going to bed if I can and if I'm hungry right before bed then maybe I'll have some yoghurt

Why do we get tired so much ??
@ChrisGascoigne1

Most likely imbalances of the nervous system Michelle and then a cascade of events occurring under that. I will put future videos together on this
