How to Remove a Glued Bathroom Mirror from the Wall 

Thank you so much! This saved me $250. Plus I had two contractors tell me it would break. I’m a 53 female and did it myself. My mirror was 48 x 40. I had it off in 30 mins and it didn’t break. 🙌🏼

It worked great. In my case, the glue was put on after the walls were textured. Because I pulled very carefully and slowly, most of the glue popped off the texture plaster without tearing the wallboard paper. I was especially impresses at your attention to safety details and personal protective equipment.

Long sleeves may also not be the worst idea...

Worked perfectly! Removed two mirrors yesterday and had no problems. I did cover the entire mirror with duct and packing tape just in case it broke. I could hear the mirror separating from the wall and knew it was working. It's also important to do this slowly and not be rushed. Thanks for great video!

Thanks so much for this video -- my husband and I just had to take off a well-stuck mirror in our bathroom and (against his wishes) I followed your recommendations to the letter, and that indeed made quicker and safer work of it than would have happened otherwise.

Loved your idea, but I had to modify it for my project. I had two 54" wide x 42" high bathroom mirrors to remove. Instead of using up an entire roll of duct tape, I taped on four 2" wide pieces of base wood trim that I removed as part of my remodeling project. The wood provided excellent rigidity to the mirrors and created a solid initial top edge of the mirror to begin the prying off process. Both mirrors came off without any cracking!

Great help! Thank you.We had three mirrors in one room. First removed as demonstrated and lifted out of the track. **Second one BROKE.** Bottom edge was on a split level, looking like this:. ___i-------------- (like a stairstep) When we pulled it from the wall, the track at bottom held the left side in place and it cracked there. I was SO glad we had taped it. If we had first cut between the track piece and backsplash - to free up the track to move with the mirror - I don't think the mirror would have cracked. (Can't post a picture here, but hopefully it's a clear enough description for anyone who might have similar issue.) Also, the long 80 inch mirror needed the bottom track cut out to remove. If I were to do again, I would have waited to for a neighbor to help remove the long mirror. It was VERY HEAVY! I felt foolish when my husband, son and I carried it down a crooked stairwell. (Not sure how we will dispose of them. May have to break it. Checking to see if local Habitat for Humanity can use any of them.

We just followed your instructions and it worked perfectly! No breakage (even though we were fine with that outcome should it have happened). Our mirror was bound on both sides by walls; and on top by lighting. We removed lighting & used a longer wedge to loosen the lower glued spots as we could not leverage the sides at all. Great vid,thank you for posting.i needed to remove an existing 3'x 4 ' mirror in our spare bathroom.the left side was tight against the wall,top and right side were clear.i cut some shims,followed your directions,it came right off in one piece,no cracks or chips.these directions were very helpful for someone that has never done this before.thanks again!

im going to have my full mirror cut in to two pieces. my problem is the mastic on the back of the mirror. im wondering will it have any effect on the glass breaking the way it is suppose to? im afraid to try and remove the mastic in fear i my scratch the back

Great video, thank you!! It unfortunately didn't work for me as the wall was the old horse hair plaster... so the silicone wasn't able to pop off like it would easily on modern dry wall plaster. Hopefully I get another chance to try out out!!

Worked perfectly, thank you! My mirror was positioned flush against the left wall and ceiling so I propped a couple of 2x4 along the bottom ridge to "catch" the mirror when i became loose. worked like a charm.

This is great if the mirror is set at the bottom. I had the tough task of doing this by myself and the mirror at the top of the ceiling. I survived but it was hard. Make sure you do this on a cold day and with help. ALSO, make sure to duck tape the ENTIRE mirror, it will break and you will get hurt if you do not tape all of it. Duck tape is cheap compared to your limbs.

I have glue still on the back of my mirror after removing it. What do you use to remove it without damaging the silver of the mirror?

Would a heat gun on low temp help if you have a difficult removing of the glass? Also I think I would wear larger goggles to protect my eyes

Good video, it probably wouldn't hurt to point out that if your mirror is glued to solid wood or concrete block you may not have as easy a time pulling it off since there's no drywall paper to give way. Wouldn't hurt to put a plywood barrier between you and the glass while you pry it off in those cases.

Would this method work on a small mirror stuck on with No More Nails on an artexed wall without damaging the artex?

Thanks! You the man, I was able to safely remove a large mirror in my bath exactly as you demonstrated. Next problem: how do I remove the old mirror adhesive left on the drywall. It just sort of smears when I try to use a putty knife. Thanks again.

I'm sad. full wall mirror over a 2 sink vanity. No side or bottom access, limited top access. Worse yet part of a decent looking but sloppy basement refinish (ran vanity pipes along an outside wall !!!!! which is why I'm pulling the mirror). Insufficient studs backing up the drywall....drywall just flexes with the mirror...sadly already cracked the mirror in 2 places, not hearing any noticeable tearing...

I did something similar with Stodoys instructions.

This is how you do it BUT.... if you go slower and not so aggressive you can save 20 bucks by skipping the miles of tape.

God why didn't I just tell them NOT to put the mirror in my bathroom??? I knew I'd want something different down the road after moving in. What a mess this will be.

The mirror I'm working on they must have used 5 tubes of liquid nails. I'm gonna have to cut the sheetrock and just pull the whole thing off the studs. Grrrrr!
