Part 2: How to remove an impossibly tight Price Pfister Pasadena Bathroom Faucet Handle that is stuck or hard to turn. I’ll show you how easy it was to get a free replacement handle with Pfister's lifetime warranty program, and how to re-use the old handle if you're not the original owners of the faucet, and can't get a new set under warranty. This repair doesn't require the water valve under the sink to be turned off, but it's always a good idea just in case of unforeseen problems with leaking. I'm not an expert, just a guy that likes to save money by DIY

Hi. PHIL Dregger here using my wife's account. It is the handles of her perplexing me after all. Thank you for taking time to share what you learned. Your tips worked great on my Meon screw less bathroom faucet handles. Your tip about not rotating the handle more than 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock saved me from destroying my value. Faucet all "fixed" new except for some custom vice-grip indentations on the base. I'll see if Meon also has a a life time warranty.

This worked perfectly for me. Thank you for posting this video. This is the second time the cold water was hard to turn on. Both times Pfister came through for me and sent replacement parts including the faucet I badly scratched using your method this time, had to be done. I tried everything to remove the faucet to replace the cartridge. The video was excellent help.

Thank you for this video - it validated my experience of the darn thing not budging at all. I had to take the whole handle assembly off, put it in a vice, and use a strap wrench to make it budge. And that was just getting the handle side off its base. I can now see the cartridge, but I cannot remove the handle from its siding (not sure the right term) because there is no screw inside that would secure the handle. So frustrating! But, because of your video, Im going to give them a call and see if I can get a replacement. This seems like bad design.

This is a great vi. Thanks. I have the same situation. Had hot water wal mount washbasin faucet leak. Plumber couldn’t get the stem to turn bc of hard water lime etc. Very hard. He ordered another stem. The stem came but did not fit into the other part. He took original stem still stuck to the part, ordered a stem from Factory Direct. That one fit. He finished the job.. However.. did not place the hot water handle ion the 9;o’clock position. Now I have the handles opening in different direction/orientation. How do we fix this.

In order to minimize damage to the faucet, I used white vinegar. I sprayed it into and around the faucet so that it seeped into the crevices and loosened stuff up a little. Your suggestion of using the PVC pipe was great! I also used thick electrical tape, making it double layered to protect the faucet from the wrench teeth a little. The pressure from the wrench still deformed the lip, though. After, I was able to loosen the faucet and I soaked it in vinegar for a few hours. I also sprayed and cleaned the based with vinegar, letting it soak in before taking a brush to it. Lastly, I sprayed WD-40 into the faucet crevice to protect from water after I place it back in. Your suggestions really helped! Thank you!!

Thanks Jorge for the tip on using white vinegar. I have to replace the cartridge on one side and was about to use CLR to remove a stuck handle and the wife reminded me that CLR can sometimes discolor things. I guess if I can use white vinegar in the coffee maker, it has to be able to break down calcium on the faucets!

Thank you so much for the instructions. Mine is Moen branch but similar style, just 3 years old and one handle stuck. I couldn’t open it but watching this video, we bought same stuff you used here from Home Depot and was able to remove the handle. I dissembled it to clean the calcium that made it stuck and put it back. It works now just has scratches but at least saving us some hundreds $ to replace the whole set (must hire someone to do it and buy new one). I will try to claim it see Moen would send me a new handle. They only sell the whole set, not just a handle, in store.

I'd spray some PB Blaster on it and let it soak in. Overnight is best. If that still didn't loosen it, then I'd carefully apply low heat with a heat gun or hair dryer to allow the metal to expand. That should do it and hopefully not damage anything.

If you cannot get a handle off after trying the video tips, a leaking cartridge may very well be the issue by seizing the threads with water mineral deposits. I had to use a Dremel with cutoff wheel to lightly score opposite sides. Protect counter top with metal scrap.

Ok just an older disabled female trying to save money so don't laugh at my question please. I think I can fix my faucet with your great instructions. But due to spine issues I don't think I can get down on floor and under sink to turn the water off. I am also afraid even if I could, I have read stories about the knobs under the sink breaking, or water going everywhere. Does the water have to be turned off to just replace a handle? thanks so much
@thriftytani46
@thriftytani46 Год назад
You do not have to turn off the water supply to change the handle. But of course, have a plan just incase unexpected things happen. Have a couple of towels to create a dam to guide the water into the sink just incase the water begins to dribble out of the cartridge. And have a pot available placed upside down over the faucet if comes shooting out the top so it will guide the water into the sink. It would be unlikely that you’d have these problems, but of course it doesn’t hurt to be prepared!

Much easier if you use a rubber strap wrench. You won't wreck your handle if you don't plan to replace with new. Just soak your handle in white vinegar and it will eat away at the scum built up inside, around, and within that handle

From watching this I guess I'm going to have to destroy the handle base in order to get the %$#^& thing off. I tried squirting penetrating oil all over it but the space between the handle and base is so tight that I really doubt much is actually getting inside there. My problem is that the handle is a little loose on the hot water side and turns a bit left/right without turning the cartridge. It's slowly been getting worse. I think (hope) there's a screw or allen key inside, or something that I might be able to tighten up. But I can't get the handle off. Mine is kitchen and not exactly the same as this one but the handle and base look very similar. Thanks for the video.

Update: I contacted Pfister for suggestions on how to get the handle off and they are sending me a new handle and cartridge! I used their customer website to submit along with pictures and they were able to identify the model (F-036-4CRS). I think I paid around $90 for the faucet at Home Depot 10 years ago or so and never realized it came with a lifetime warranty. Now I don't feel so bad about destroying the handle base to get it off, but I will wait for the new one. They recommended using a 50/50 solution of warm vinegar/water to loosen the handle and I squirted a whole bottle into the gap above and below the handle base but it didn't do anything. If anyone else is having such problems, be sure to contact Pfister - you may get free replacement parts too.
