This was very helpful. Both of my handles froze after (only) six years of use. Getting them off was NOT as easy as Tani made it appear, however, his advice to turn hard helped, once I grabbed the threaded tube below with some channel locks. I wound up breaking the cartridge to get the handle off, but Pfister sent me, free, not only a handle set but also two replacement cartridges. So I was back in business. Thanks VERY much for your help!

Hi Thrifty Tani, thank you for your video, with clear details, that I was able to fix my Pfister faucet's hard-to-turn handle. A bit of silicone grease lubrication and the handle is back to its smooth operation! I did have to disconnect the water connections and unscrew and remove the faucet from the sink, since the hub could not be unscrewed with the faucet in its place. All in all, it was a relatively painless plumbing fix that was greatly helped by your video instructions! Your video also informed me about Pfister's replacement process, which was a relief in case the fix was not going to work. Thanks a lot!

The Pfister company sent not only the handles but also the valves. Hard to take off and the base plate had been rusting as well. 3 years of rusting on our counter and so hard to turn. Now a single finger on tap turns it on. O mi gosh thank you so much for this video.

Thanks for tips! I just received my parts (did take a month to deliver to the East Coast due to COVID delays). So for those people who need cartridge only, it may be much faster to order through Amazon close to 5 dollars for the cold cartridge. Mine turned out to the handle that was stuck (cartridge was fine), it was a lost more costly so I waited for the parts.

@@thriftytani46 it was actually quick...only 4 days after I called. However, I first sent an online request, which they hadn't immediately responded to. I initially submitted an online inquiry with photos a few days before and heard nothing, so I called to follow up. Unfortunately, when I went to install the new handles, I had a tough time removing the cold handle. Ended up having to use a pipe wrench. When I finally got it off, discovered why - the washer that holds it in place was completely rusted. The hot, not a spot of rust. Called them again and requested more parts. As I was waiting on hold, staring at the faucet noticed that the faucet finish was a little worn. When she came back and asked me if there was anything else she could help me with, I told her about that as well. She asked what I used to clean it, I told her and she said she'd be sending me a new faucet! Hopefully it comes quickly because until then, I told my husband and daughter we'll have to use the bathtub to wash our hands in the meantime lol!

Well, we recently found our Pfister Prima F-049-P-M Hot Water Faucet tightening up again. This is the 2nd occurrence in 5 years. So , when the part came yesterday, I decided to find out if anyone put something on RU-vid about this. So, here I am. What I did last time, I do not remember, but your video definitely made repair #2 easier. I did not touch any plumbing even though Pfister sent a replacement valve as well. This was Strictly a "On the top job." I did put a Channel Lock Pliers on the underneath fastener to tighten the faucet's mounting. Comedy on the #1 repair: Pfister sent the new faucet base in 2017 which arrived broken, so the Mrs. had to get another one for repair #1. I tried pulling the handle off the base this time, to see what I could do with it but the extraction process needs better tools than I own. So this means we have now received 3 new bases for this faucet. Pfister needs to do a better engineering job because this is costing them money. The Mrs. really likes the faucet and we have another type downstairs which has had no issues to date since 2004.

I've owned by faucet roughly three years and my replacement hot handle just went stuff again after three months just like the original. I believe they don't lubricate them heavily and the heat of the hot side drys up causing the rough/stiff handle. Bad design. I just reached out to them once again.

Hi, I replaced the 'hot' cartridge in pfister bathroom faucet, not because of low water pressure, because the handle was impossible to turn. I believe I have the exact same model, mine be older though. I ended up replacing the cold cartridge too. Everything went back together fine, I checked for debris and cleared the water lines before installing the new cartridge. Now, there is low pressure. No leaks, water comes out fine, but the pressure is about 50% of what it was. What could be wrong?

My handle was so stuck, I actually had to remove the nut from the underside and take the whole valve stem out. I was able to remove the handle after awhile, but when I took it off, the rubber threads from inside the handle stayed stuck on the valve stem, so I needed to order a new valve body, which pfister said they would send right away. However, I need a new retaining nut because the old one is still on the old valve stem and won’t come off. Pfister said the retaining nut is on back order and won’t arrive for 2 months! I’m wondering if I can just use a generic coupling to do the job??

Rubber gaskets are just something necessary for the handle to function properly, but will always disintegrate over time. The rubber in the gasket will eventually dry out and become crumbly over time, it's just the nature of the rubber material. So it's normal for the rubber gasket to wear out over time and need to be replaced. It is not a sign of a problem with the product itself. Pretty much any faucet handle will eventually have this same issue.

@@Zorra31P this not true. It is a poor design. They should have used Teflon or UHMW for the gasket material rather than rubber that will break down. As an engineer I am surprised they did not find this issue during the design phase. The handle should last 10-15 years with the proper materials.

What if the faucet won’t turn off at all? Just keeps running? Do you replace the entire cartridge as well?? Do you just have to pull it out forcefully?

Hi! Yes you’ll need to replace the cartridge. I have a video on my channel on how to do it.

Any suggestions if it appears your cartridge splits in 2 and other half remains caught inside?? >:O

Needle most pliers? It isn’t threaded in. It should pull right out. If that doesn’t work, carefully use a wood screw to screw into the cartridge then pull it out while gripping the screw.

I just called the number you gave. I was told there is no such program to replace the faucet free of charge. Plus, he would not initiate a case number unless l had the model number of the faucet.

That’s strange, I’ve done it twice and it looks like from the comments people have been able to do the same.

We are not handy. 1 hour later we had a completely corroded bottom part. The silver circle was completely deteriorated. Faucet seems fine. Called pfister. Maybe we just need the new silver circle piece! Now we wait. So longer for us but kind of fun to challenge the challenged!

Hey bro quick question why my handles turn all the way around 360 with no stop....??
@thriftytani46
@thriftytani46 5 лет назад
Yo! The stop limits on the cartridges are probably broken. Replacing the cartridge will fix it.

3:05 Is it necessary to tighten the handle base so much? Would be easier to remove next time if you didn't use "death grip" on it.
@thriftytani46
@thriftytani46 6 месяцев назад
No, not necessary to overtighten. Just enough so the base of the hub is firmly squeezing down on the countertop so splashes of water won’t seep under the countertop.

For those that are a bit handy, the handle can be taken apart. There is a c clip that holds the two pieces together. If you dont have pliers for these (they behave opposite to regular pliers), you can use two small flat blade screwdrivers to get the clip off. Then the o rings can be inspected and lubricated with a light grease (not wd-40).

This is Tani, If you need the faucet sooner, Amazon carries it: amzn.to/2AGApWV although it's pricy. Other online suppliers I've never worked with, carries it for less. Thanks, Tani

Hi Thrifty Tani, I can't seem to unscrew the faucet handle. The nut on the bottom is spinning but I can't tighten it because it's in such a small hard to reach spot. I tried tightening with my finger but that didn't do it. Any ideas on how to get it off? Thanks
@thriftytani46
@thriftytani46 5 лет назад
Hi Tyler, there’s a special wrench that came with the faucet, if you search on Amazon for “faucet installer” you’ll see an item that is similar. I’m sure Home Depot would sell something similar.

FYI...the Pfister warranty will only cover replacement parts if you are the original owner who purchased the faucet. Just found that out.
