Here's how to remove the RTA bushings on your BMW e30. There are a few videos out there that show this method, but they don't give you any details. Well after breaking a few rods and some unsuccessful attempts, I figured it out and I thought I would share. I know it's long for a how-to video, but if you're doing a DIY and need to learn how to remove your rear trailing arm bushings, this should explain it!

This is a vlog following my journey to become the best driver I know.
Black Flagged was born from a desire to just get out there and do what we wanted. Racing, drifting, rally, endurance-whatever we can do to get our wiggles out. We're a race team, a tribe, a community, a media house, and a content provider. We don't claim to be the smartest guys on the track or the authority on motorsports, but we know what we like and we'll give it our all to make it happen and make the best stuff we know how. We try harder.

you can use the new bushings to stabilize the rod when removing the second, as well.

I’ve seen so many different methods, but to me the easiest is to just set the bushings on fire and knock them out!!! But good job on your technique

Thanks for the video! Worked perfectly! I did what you suggested except I used one of the new bushings to stabilize for the second bushing removel. Thanks again!

i recently found this vlog, im really digging it. kind of living vicariously through it, i have this dream of taking an e30 and doing a very similar job to build a great driver for everyday and some track time (never been on a track, dont know much about driving). by first e30 went down when the timing belt skipped some teeth and killed the valves, it wasnt worth doing on that particular car with the issues it had. but this is really cool and is holding me over until im in a position in life to do the thing. keep up the good work, im excited to see where it goes

Thanks! Glad you’re liking it. It’s a long hard road. At least for me anyway. Can’t wait to see where this goes either!

Those bushings looked fine. The rubber still had good shape, no splitting, ect.

Good job. I suggest next time you put some heat on the outside with a small torch. No need to burn the bushing. They will come out much easier. Also, grease the threaded rod. In addition, when pressing the new ones, use P-80 assembly lubricant for rubber. That’s what is mostly used in assembly plants and factories. A little expensive but you just need a little. You can find it on eBay. A small tube will do. Good video though.

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate that. Yeah when I went to do the bushings in the M3 I didn’t want to make this mess again, so I did exactly what you said and applied heat to the outside. Worked like a charm, no mess. Thanks again!

Lube the threads whenever using/making a press like that. All for not, good engineering fella!

Stymie Snerdly ah, good to know! That would have probably made this a lot easier. Thanks!

It’s there waiting for all this rain to stop. Trying to figure out what video to make now. But I’ll be making one about it soon

Do you still have your e46 m3?
@BlackFlagged

Yes, just been a little consumed with the e30 through the summer rains. Now that it’s going to start cooling down I’ll be taking the e46 m3 back out 👍

I feel like you’ve had quite a bit more traffic when you were doing e46 m3 content. I personally enjoy and appreciate all things Motorsport. Your channel suites me quite well for where I am in life. Just an observation. Are you planning to do some more track time soon???
